I think you missed that when Judy (the lesbian in the diner) was first calling for Donna, it was Rose she spoke to. The implication is that they are roommates (and friends).
The answer is that Rose and Judy are friends (and pretty sure Judy FaceTimed Rose from the diner. Read it somewhere. As ninja’d above.)
To the comic fans. Did that play more importantly in the comics?
We watched episode 6 last night. I have no idea what death was like in the comics, but i LOVED her, i thought she was great.
Not really, no. It’s a payphone call not a video chat, but the call is the same. More-or-less verbatim, even.
Donna shows up again later, but as a peripheral character in another story involving someone else from the Florida house besides Rose.
And the show ends with a glimpse of desire. I thought it was perfect to cast them with a non-binary actor.
The Judy/Rose/Donna/Barbie connection is not really important to the overall story, but it does serve to show how everything is interconnected - sort of in a Dirk Gently kind of way.
A bonus episode has dropped on Netflix featuring the Calliope and Dream of a Thousand Cats stories.
Cool!
Really? Awesome!
Just heard about that. They’re both supposed to be at least partially animated.
Just watched. The first is animated with a rotoscoped feel to my eye. The next live action.
Summary
Anyone know if the names on the tombstones have significance?
I was more than half expecting the doctor who dreamed of being a writer to bind Calliope to her as a twist. Glad they did not do that.
Nice bonus!
Christ, I thought Derek Jacobi had passed…i guess a thousand Neil Gaimans dreamed him alive cause I was sure he was dead.
Not quite rotoscope. More.
“We endeavored to make the animated version of ‘A Dream of a Thousand Cats’ as mesmerizing and hypnotic as we could by utilizing the magic of real oil paintings on canvas,” Hisko Hulsing, who directed the animated story, said in a statement. “We combined the paintings with classically drawn 2D animation, based on realistic 3D animation of telepathic cats in order to create a trippy world that feels both grounded and dreamy at the same time. Untold Studios in London created the breathtaking 3D animation of the cats. The wonderful 2D animation, oil paintings and stylizing were all done at Submarine Studios in Amsterdam.”
From
James McAvoy is in the newest episode? Wow, he was(is) Dream in the audio play.
Did you recognize who did the voice of the skull-headed crow?
They did subtly imply that he raped her. In the original it was much more explicit and unambiguous.
With the scratches , I don’t think it was subtle.
I did not but from the article I know now.
Yes I thought the specific of defilement was clear. I was thinking though of the doctor who brought him the bezoar and went to his house …
I know that voice better than most people’s…
This bonus episode was so well done. I’ve had some concern of how well the show will hold up as we move from cohesive narratives like Preludes and Nocturnes and The Doll’s House, and into the stand-alone stories. Those concerns are no more! Calliope gives background to the greater story by bringing the Fates back in and introducing the Orpheus storyline, and Cats stresses the underlying theme of what happens in the Dreaming shaping the waking world; dreams are the fundamentals of myths and stories, which have power to change our reality. That final image of Cats was purrfect!
