Last night, I stopped by a friend’s place to watch the original Manchurian Candidate [sub]which is damned good by the way[/sub], and he was telling me some minor details of the SciFi’s new Battlestar Galactica.
I ended up stumbling across it today on TV, and watched about 45 minutes of it, and am pretty damned impressed by everything. I never saw the original series, but I know enough about it to follow the storyline, but I never figured out how Starbuck traveled back in time to serve in an elite team who survives in the Los Angeles underground, when noone else can help. [sub]Sort of like how Sauron goes to Geonosis to fight with Yoda[/sub]. But, I digress. . .
The Question:
What I’d like to know is this: Is it a weeklong miniseries like “V” was back on NBC in the 80s? Or is it as he was explaining, a series of two-hour movies? If so, is it on DVD yet, or is there some way I can watch it from the beginning? The science part of it seems so damn accurate I can’t help but continue to watch the thing. The storyline (from what I gathered) is pretty cool too, but I have to ask my second question: what happened in the original series that they’re still floating around in space?
Tripler
While I wait for responese, I think I’ll pass the time by playing some solitaire. Oh look! A queen of diamonds!!
It began last year as a two-part miniseries and is now a weekly series. The first season, which debuted this week, runs 13 episodes, and the second season is currently being written. As to your second question, the new series is not a continuation of the original but rather a remake, starting the story over from the beginning.
It originally aired last year as a miniseries shown as two two-hour segments. The miniseries was repeated on Sci-Fi Wed. 1-12-05 as the pilot for the regular series. The first two hour-long episodes of the regular series were shown back to back Fri 1-14-05, so we’ve now seen six hours total here in the US. The UK and other places have seen more of it.
The new series was inspired by the original series but has no continuity with it. It’s a remake of the concept.
