Hm, thanks. I don’t know I’m really that patient however.
Should I play this game? Why not.
Moderator: hmmmmmm I always appreciated Gaudere’s interventions in GD, e.g. when the late lamented p man complained about profanity.
Poster: I would have to give a nod to ** Edwino **
However choosing but two seems unnecesarrily exclusionary. Much easier to name the opposite.
[sub]Odd, once more I see a clear divide between the “G” section of the board and the “M & H” sections. Almost like there are two distinct boards here.[/sub]
I would have to pick Jodi for poster I most admire. I don’t say anything in most of the threads she posts to because she has already said everything I would have said 100 times better then I would have said it. Chief Scott would come in a close second, but only because he follows me around singing the Zumba The Cat Song.
For moderator I would pick John Corrado. He is my hero!
As far as mods go, gotta go with Czarcasm not only for the lovely pun of his screen name, but because he turns out, IRL, to be a great guy to have a beer with. (Not to mention scotch eggs, the official snack food of the IMHO forum). And his knowledge of trivia is awe-inspiring.
If Fenris didn’t already have so many mentions, I’d bring him up again, but I will instead say CalMeacham whose observations are intelligent, witty, and blessed with a certain humanity that I associate with Edgar Pangborn (a high compliment in my book).
There are probably a dozen or more posters – many of them mentioned already, some not – whom I admire from afar. They are continually making me smile, or taking words out of my mouth (only saying them much more eloquently than I could), or even making me cranky because they’ve made my lame posts so moot and extraneous with their wiser words. I won’t name names, but just assume that you too are on the list, if you’re reading this. Heh. Except YOU over there. You know who you are, you jerk. Not YOU, and you know why.
Moderator: They rarely turn up in the threads I frequent. Which probably says something about the dullness of the threads you find ol’ Cranky in. I gotta DO something about that…
I’m a week short of a year here, and I can’t recollect posting in the same thread as Spiritus Mundi, but I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen. I’m going to wuss out on nominating a mod, but all those who’ve made mod since I’ve been here make me feel a little like we miss out on a fair bit by them being distracted by their moderating duties.
This one is easy. I often open a thread, ready to comment, and find that wring has already said everything I was going to say, but with more style.
Moderator:
This one is really hard. I mean, really hard. I really like several of the moderators, and I can’t seem to pick one over the other, so I think I’ll just leave this one.
Because although they may be admiring you from afar, they know you pore over these fawning threads (and you’re kind of sensitive about your failing eyesight).
Fenris I swear you’re trying to get me into trouble!
Name names???
Too many to count, tho’ I do try to directly engage folks in the threads themselves.
And mods??? jeeze. I’m supposed to pick a single mod out?
Ok. the real deal on both aspects : as with most things in life, there’s multiple aspects to each. Some folks I admire for their wit, others for their wisdom, some treasured few for both.
And I try to let them know when it happens, 'cause life’s too short to not tell people you appreciate them.
I’ll let this thread be my inspiration for specifically letting posters/mods know they’re appreciated.
Well, that fits, then…shortly after the victorious municipal elections the Queen, to add honor, bestowed a knighthood upon me. Unfortunately, since that auspicious day, I’ve been doing an absolutely abysmal job.
That’s right, Finagle, old pal…I’m **your worst Knight Mayor.
I’m going to reciprocate. Collounsbury’s posts are uniformly well written, well researched, intelligent, and entertaining. Who can blame him for getting a little cranky after the 90th “race and genetics” thread? Anyway, I think his obvious emotion towards the topics he posts on is quite endearing.
From the race and genetics war, I’m going to add tomndebb.
I think the reason we don’t directly interact so much is because we always seem to be of united opinion and battling the forces of ignorance together.
Poster: My favorite has to be Ukulele Ike. (Properly bolded). I always get a chuckle from his posts. Sometimes, I’ll search out his posts just for the heck of it.
Honorable mention (in no specific order) – Astorian, Bricker, Bottle of Smoke, Chique, jarbabyj, DSYoungESQ and several others that I will open a thread just because they started it or were the most recent poster.
Mod: For sheer brilliance in closing a thread, the award goes…hands down…to manny. Coldfire is a close second, even before he did me a big favor in editing a thread on my behalf.
[musing] I’m actually a little surprised that someone hasn’t opened an alternate universe (as I refer to them) thread regarding this. Not that I want to see one, I’d hate to get a mention or two in that one. [/musing]
Well, it seems the key is someone that I’ve admired, but not someone I interact with often, so ** Triscadecamus, ** comes to mind, that fits the description. He’s bright, witty, and creative. All of my favorite things.
** TVeb ** has to be my favoritest mod, but I’ve at least interacted with her a teeensy bit, so probably ** manhattan ** would be the vote for most admired, but from afar.
But, for the most beloved? Hey, I can nominate a category, it’s legal!! ** Scotticher, MysterEcks, Mega the Roo, and King Euty the Ist **
This woman has her head on straight and has a heart like none other. I have read many of her posts and she seems to have a genuine care and concern for others.
She also is a great artist of cyberspace with the SDPP. The amount of work and dedication she puts into that must be extremely taxing. I don’t know how much credit she gets for it though. I know I appreciate it! Thanks for the SDPP Shayna!
That’s really I can say about her as I don’t know much else about her.
I’d have to say that Scylla gets my vote for most interesting poster, on the strength of the dueling thread alone. That thread had me laughing for hours (and convinced me to start reading the Dope on a regular basis rather than just on alternate Tuesdays).
As for moderators … I haven’t been around long enough (or spent enough time searching the archives) to narrow it down. However, from what I’ve seen, Arnold Winkleried has a legion of patience and more besides (although I’ve always wondered if he greets new posters that don’t forget to post a link to Cecil’s columns. )
