The SDMB "He Hate Me, He Hate Me Not" Football League

I’ve proposed some trades to FQ to improve his QB situation. Just hoping he shows up.

Comments on the trade? Honestly? I think Munch comes away a big winner. It’s not lopsided enough to protest; Bennett’s a good sleeper, this could be the year Barlow comes into his own, Brown’s no longer really an elite WR, and J.Lewis is a “diamond among trash” in Baltimore’s offense, which is never good for an RB. Graham’s nobody so the huge jump to Shockey is no question. But essentially you traded 2 starters for 1. I’m not surprised to see you say you really wanted Shockey.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I’m fairly happy with how my team turned out – I see my only glaring weaknesses at 3rd RB (only Peterson after my starting 2) and 2nd QB (Brees). I underestimated you guys when I passed on Holcomb in 10 and got stuck picking from Brees, Ramsey and Plummer. I find it funny that one of the biggest keys to my team this season is going to be my 14th round pick – I think (as mb alluded to) my squad’s a monster if Peterson starts in Chicago.

I like my team a lot, but I obviously had forgotten that it was a keeper league when drafting. Coles and Bates are the only really young players on my squad. My severe lag didn’t really effect my starting lineup so much as my backups. I had no intention of drafting a TE or K until the last two rounds. Kitna is a huge dropoff from Holcomb, who for some reason was replaced by Carney when I attempted to pick him. Also missed out on Dallas D.

WL is the team to beat, though I’m not a fan of Boston and I think that Boeritger will soon replace Smith as his #3 WR. I’ve seen Driver to be underrated in all of my drafts this season…

I posted on the league board, but I’ll mention it in here too:
If anyone wants to upgrade at QB, I am listening to any offers for your choice of (Warner or Hasslebeck) + (Stewart or Dunn) for a solid RB.

since the other two teams are on commish control - we should decide what we want to do with those teams in case they dont show.

just put them all on the waiver wire

Strongly disagree. He had problems with injuries last year.

I think he catches 100 balls this year.

Well you all know how I feel about him (I think Munch mentioned it in passing during the action). I was trying to be more in line with what I thought was the majority opinion. I’m right with you mb although I haven’t heard anything one way or the other regarding whether he’s all the way back from the nicks and dings he built up last year. I do think it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen with the Patriots offense, although if there’s one constant there it’s him.

I don’t feel that great about Rod Smith either Booey, although I think it’s fair to say that I was right months ago when I said that he was better than Jimmy? But I am high on Boston.

If there’s only two things I know about fantasy football, it’s that WL is in love with David Boston and Troy Brown. Why I remember that, I have absolutely no idea. I just seem to recall him always picking them in the mocks.

Omni, your playoff vote still counts, and is duly noted. If anyone else wants to vote, feel free to do so. We’ll do first choice that gets 6 votes (12 active coaches, tie breaker to the fastest response).

Vote regarding # of teams and week? I say keep it as is. If this were a 16 team league, 8 is OK. Even with a normal 14 team league, but this one we’re in is basically 12 teams.

Now I have big time youth on my team, probably my two keepers. Though who knows if I would still be participating in this league around the time Faulk and George started to really lose their skills/retire. WL, I would have done that original trade for switching 1st and 2nd round picks, but again lag screwed me over. By the time your acceptance showed up on my monitor, I had about 10 seconds to pick a guy…

Did you get my vote from the yahoo board? 4 teams, weeks 15-16. I’m probably screwing myself but it’s not the first time.

Speaking of that; I’ll entertain trade ideas for a better running back. I picked T.O. in the first round, but I had my eyes set on Ahman Green, and when somebody moved down the list to get him I knew it was going to be a rough draft. (Get it?)

Talk to me.

Wow, I really like that trade. It hurts WL down the road, keeper wise, but that’s a LONG way down the road. This year, he’s got nearly guaranteed production (provided he tries to deal for Gordon).

I’m not sold on Alexander’s consistency, but I’m not at all worried about his potential. I’m also very high on William Green, despite me passing him up in the second round, where I should have been all over him. With a consistent Holcomb, he could really produce. Baba, if you would like to deal for Maurice Morris (SA’s backup) let me know. He can be had pretty cheaply (though I’d prefer to package him with a WR to upgrade).

It took me a few days to compute it, as I told Booey I always manage to get burned by George although stat-wise he turned out pretty well last year and he’s probably going to be more reliable than Green. But I was unhappy having to settle for Alexander in the first round. You’re right that it hurts me for keepers Munch, and I didn’t notice that until this morning when I had the trade proposal window up to accept the trade… I had to pause to consider that, as my only real keeper options were Driver (assuming he pans out this year), Alexander and Green. But I do like my team better with Faulk and George, I think. If only I hadn’t chickened out in Round 15 and taken Chicago instead of forcing myself to choose between Gordon and Jamel White I’d really be set.

So now you just have to trade me Brown and my life will be complete.

Did we ever hash out the rules for our keeper system? We should.

so, who are you willing to give up for gordon?

Yeah. We pick three at the end of the season, and those are our top 3 picks in the draft. To tier it would be too complicated, and would be nearly impossible to do online if someone couldn’t make it.

When after the draft is still up in the air. I think we should pick them on NFL Draft Day. Keeps us a little in step with the real world.

Everyone keeps talking about these trades but I see no mention of them on yahoo. Where should I be looking?

Go to your team page - they’re above your roster. Also, you can turn on e-mail notification (which I recommend). It lets you know when trades happen, and when they’re offered to you.

And the stupid trade system only lets you include any text with the trade offer if the recipient has emails turned on.

Munch, are there any other rules? Don’t some leagues have a limit on how many years in a row a player can be kept? Anything like that?

mrchan, I’ll give you Schlepginger for him. Heh.

Munch, whats up with trades on the Fighting Quakers?

They are in screaming need of a QB (Chris Redman is the only option they have with a broke-up Pennington), and I am looking to deal one.

WL, as for keeper duration, I think we said 3 years. That’s standard, so I could just be projecting. If I am, it’s still not a bad idea.

mb, good question. I have no idea. I can’t accept trades for the Quakers, but I can manipulate rosters. I honestly don’t think someone with that team would be willing to trade away a RB other than Candidate, if that’s what you’re looking for.

All the trades I’ve proposed to FQ have revolved around Brees for Canidate.

So what’s the status with that? Still not responding to emails? We should definitely give him at least a few more days before we take action.

regarding the playoffs:

i’m not so much in favor of having an 8 team playoffs vs 4 teams, as i am in favor of playoffs starting week 14, instead of week 15.

that way everyone plays everyone else once.

i mean, i would hate to be the person that has to lose to the Kung Fu Fighters TWICE.
