He Hate Me FF Keeper League - Year 14

League page

Yahoo changed the way registration worked this year. Instead of inviting people and having them accept the invite, it simply re-registered every team from last year. Which means, unless they post about their participation, we don’t know who actually intended to sign up again this year. To re-instate the old process, I’m going to boot everyone from the league and send out another invite, so that you can confirm you’re participating that way. It’ll go through the normal channels to your yahoo registereed FF e-mail. Please accept the invite. If you don’t intend to play this year, please post to the thread or otherwise contact me so we can work on a replacement.

This league traditionally drafts on Labor day, so I’m setting the draft to Mon Sep 5 at 8:30 eastern. Speak up early if you can’t make that and we can change it if everyone can make it.

I’m going to propose three rule changes this year. I will post them to the league page as polls. Majority of those who voted will win. If you abstain you’re counted as neutral.

  1. Move to a 6 man playoffs format. Yahoo has a three week, 6 man playoff option. The first and second seeds have a bye in the first week of the playoffs. 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5. Then the remaining teams play the semi-final. In a league with 14 players, only having four make the playoffs is too few. We had an especially unusual year last year where 3 of the top 4 scorers didn’t even make the playoffs. I feel like 4/12 works, but 4/14 is too few. 6/14 feels right. It also gives another reward tier for being at the top - you earn a bye, just like real NFL teams, which gives more meaning to the race at the top up until the end.

  2. Currently, our league gives the #1-#4 draft slots to the consolation bracket. The original idea here was to make the consolation bracket meaningful to give people something fun to play for after they missed the playoffs. But here’s what I don’t think makes sense: I’m okay with giving the winner of the consolation bowl the #1 pick, to provide that reward factor, but why should the losers of the consolation bowl get picks #2-4? The reverse order of finishing to start the draft is a parity mechanism - the teams that finished at the bottom are unlikely to have good keepers - and we throw a wrench into it for no reason by giving the consolation bowl losers the top pick.

So my proposal is that the consolation bowl winner still gets the #1 pick, but everyone else is seeded in reverse order of standings.

If anyone else has proposals I can include those as polls also.

I tried to send everyone PMs about the new league thread and signing back up, but I realize that I’m not sure who a couple of people are here.

Correct this list:

Baltimore Weirdos (Weirddave)
Fightin Quakers (furt)
Ottoman Empire (Ottoerotic)
Carcosa Yellow Kings (Munch)
Exploding Pancakes (SenorBeef)
Nine Inch Neils (Really Not All That Bright)
VarlosZ
HungryHungryHaruspex (Jules Andre)
Moridwon (Hamlet)
Omnipotents (Omniscient)
Spiritus Mundane (Spiritus Mundi)
No Use For A Name (Retrovertigo)

and two I don’t know

Fourth & Nineteen
Crabby Hermits

Ha, two posts ago I said that I was going to propose 3 rule changes, and then I only proposed two. I don’t remember what the third one is. If I do, I’ll post about it. I created the other two as polls in the league thread, so please vote on them. If you have your own proposals feel free to go ahead with them.

Draft order:

  1. Exploding Pancakes
  2. Nine Inch Neils
  3. VarlosZ
  4. Fourth & Nineteen
  5. No Use For A Name
  6. Spiritus Mundane
  7. Omnipotents
  8. MOridwon (Hamlet)
  9. Crabby Hermits
  10. HungryHungryHaruspex
  11. Carcosa Yellow Kings
  12. Ottoman Empire
  13. Fightin’ Quakers
  14. Baltimore Weirdos

That stems from the draft order of

Draft Pick Last Year's Finish
    1 14
    2 13
    3 12
    4 11
    5 1
    6 2
    7 3
    8 4
    9 10
    10 9
    11 8
    12 7
    13 6
    14 5

Having the top 4 go to the 5th-8th finishers is always weird to me, hence my 2nd proposal. Of course the order for this year is set - any rule changes would affect next year’s draft.

I agree with both rule changes, they sound like great improvements.

Don’t forget to vote in the league page itself. The polls are in the same area as the league messaging system. I’m going to use those as the official tally. Announcing your vote/feelings here is good, but make sure you vote in the actual poll for them to count.

Made a mistake earlier - I identified HungryHungryHaruspex as JulesAndre, because that’s his traditional team name. But he dropped out last year and JSexton replaced him, but kept the name.

In any case, JSexton said in the thread last year that he wouldn’t be returning this year, and Retrovertigo is also out, so we need to draft at least two replacements.

In the event that we have two players leaving and two replacements, how do we decide who gets what roster? My instinct is to say the first person to accept their invite gets their pick of which roster they want.

We had interest in replacing someone if we had absenses from user motu. He’s been around for 2 years and has a handful of posts - I usually like to give slots to more established users - but it’s harder to recruit fantasy players than it used to be so I’m inclined to let him have the slot since he took the initiative to seek this out and then work on recruiting the other slot. Opinions?

If you’re interested in joining this league, speak up.

Oh, I remembered the third rule I meant to propose: Yahoo has IR slots which you can store a player who has been officially put on IR. We use them in the dynasty league. It sucks enough having one of your star players go down - but then having to carry them for the rest of the year, missing out on a needed bench slot, in order to keep them next year is another punishment. I suggest that we add an IR slot to give the player some relief in the event that this happens. I’ll post a poll in the league thread. Consider this issue 3.

So I was looking back on previous threads, and I forgot that we’re apparently allowed to trade keeper rights to players we’re eligible to keep, as long as we all enter the draft with 16 picks. I feel kinda weird about it, but it seems to be the normal thing to do.

I’m probably not going to keep one of Latavius Murray (12th round keeper) or Dion Lewis (14th round keeper), so I’m willing to swap them for a mid-round pick. You’d get one of my late picks in return, since we both need to go into the draft with 16 players/draft picks. I’m also open to trading DeAndre Hopkins (would be kept in the first) or David Johnson (would be kept in the 7th) but it’d have to be a big offer or package.

Still interested, but totally understand if you get others with more “Dope Cred” than me

I’m Fourth & Nineteen, and I’m back in.

Sorry, I forgot to do the keeper lists like I intended, but I’m heading out the door and won’t be on my PC for a while. I’ll get that done when I can. Don’t forget to vote on the league issues - it’s in the league message section, you may have to expand it to see all of them. So far only 3 people have voted. We have 4 people absent, and two slots that need replacing.

Doh! It appears I posted in the wrong thread…sign me up for HungryHungryHaruspex. (Btw, please tell me I can change the team name…)

I just need the reinvite.

Further research reveals that my team has been deleted. Is there any way to remedy this?

Let me get back to you in a couple of days on this. I’m not sure how many people we will ultimately need to replace - the current count is 2 but we have a couple more teams unaccounted for currently. If we end up having multiple people wanting to replace the same teams, we will need some sort of system for resolving that. First come, first serve, or a lottery, or whatever. I’ll try to get you the team you want if there’s no strong interest in it from the other replacement players, but if there is we will have to resolve that. Does anyone have opinions on method? And would you be willing to play still if you ended up having to pick up another team?

It wasn’t deleted, just forced to rejoin as I mentioned in the op. I send an invite to your new address.

Thank you. The email from Yahoo was a bit harsh; thanks for reinstating me.

I shortened my team name to Hermits.

Harsh how? I just indicated that yahoo automatically signed everyone back up, which meant I basically manually had to take attendance. The easiest/most compelling way would be to boot everyone from the league, nullifying that automatic sign up, and then make them manually take the invite to join the league, just as it was done in the past. There was nothing personal or punitive about it, and it’s explained in the op of this thread.

Okie dokie…btw, the rules changes sound good to me.

Okay, good, you’re in. I’m not home right now but I’ll post the official keeper lists in a day or two and we will figure out how to assign teams to new players then. I also sent a pm to motu that he or she is also in. Those will replace our two confirmed reigning players this year, and we will have to see if anyone else will be absent after that.
