He Hate Me Fantasy Football 2026 - Year 24

And here we are again, year 24 of this Fantasy Football League on the SDMB.

As I’ve done for the last few years, I renewed the league without automatic team renewals and then sent invites out, so that team owners could actively indicate they planned to return.
As of today, nine owners have renewed. Still got plenty of time to work on the other five.

Keeper Rules

  1. You can only keep a maximum of 3 players.
  2. You can only keep players drafted after the second round (third rounders or later only.)
  3. A player can only be kept a maximum of twice. (Making 3 total roster years.)
  4. A kept player incurs a two round penalty (e.g: drafted in the 6th, kept in the 4th.)

Eligible Keepers to be posted shortly.

First topic for conversation - toward the end of last year’s thread, there was discussion about changing the # of games in the schedule, to avoid having the championship in week 17. I think these were the proposals - please let me know if there are others, and we’ll vote on a possible rule change.

1 - As is - 14 regular season games (play one other team twice); 6 team playoff brackets; championship in week 17
2 - 13 regular season games (play each other team once); 6 team playoff brackets; championship in week 16
3 - 14 regular season games (play one other team twice); 4 team playoff brackets; championship in week 16

Players who can’t be kept this year because they’ve been kept in the last two years:

Team Player
Omnipotents Chase Brown
Spiritus Mundane Jordan Love
Big Mack Attack Rashee Rice
Disgruntled Goats Puka Nacua
Exploding Pancakes De’Von Achane

Eligible Keepers - please check my work. No trades last year made my job easier!
Round listed here is the round the player was drafted last year - please account for the 2 round penalty.

We also need to think about draft date. We’ve usually done the Tuesday the day after labor day, which does create some issues with trying to get waiver claims in before Thursday night’s game. However this year we of course now have Wednesday night games - the season opens on Wednesday the 9th.
Do we want to move the draft up? Or leave it as Tuesday the 8th, and owners will have to plan around the Wednesday night and Thursday night games?

5 players who went through the whole draft-kept-kept cycle seems crazy low to me, as it does most years. It seems like valuable 3 year keepers should be more common. The loss of Achane is going to hurt, he was a significant part of my two championship runs. It’s hard to get a running back drafting at the end of the first.

You can post polls in this forum now, so if you’d rather turn your second post into a poll, I’d do that now before most people weigh in, but my preference is #2 – that’s our current system, right? Playing each other team once feels elegant, and I prefer the 6 team playoffs in a 14 man league. I think trying to sneak an extra game in there risks having the championship having too many resting players and the only upside is one more game of regular season time and I personally think 13 games is enough.

I’m flexible on draft date, we don’t have to compete with other SDMB league drafts like we used to, but I wouldn’t worry too much about the wednesday and thursday night games. Not that many people use post-draft waivers, and I think it would only affect players playing in those games in particular but I may be misremembering how the early games affect the post-draft waivers. It may be that it prevents you from getting a waiver from one of those games before they play - if that happens, they get rolled up into the normal post game waiver system.

We’ve been drafting the Tuesday after labor day that I bet a bunch of people deliberately clear their calendars ahead of it and I think that’s easier. But I don’t feel very strongly about this one.

#1 is our current setting - 14 week regular season; three weeks of playoffs (#1 and #2 seeds get byes in week 15); championship game week 17, nothing in week 18.

I agree that only 5 players who can’t be kept again seems low, it was 9 last year. I checked, and there were only 7 players kept in 2025 that were also kept in 2024. One was Chuba Hubbard, who was kept in the second round last year so is doubly ineligible; and another was Sam LaPorta, who wasn’t on Omni’s final roster. The other five are the ones who I listed as not eligible to be kept again. Not sure what the low # means - are we all valuing potential keepers too high when drafting, and therefore they can’t be kept twice? Or do we just suck at identifying sleepers?
