He Hate Me FF Keeper League - Year 14

Alright, I’ve got a keeper list. Please double check for errors. One star before the entry means a player was kept once already, and two stars means a player has been kept twice and this would be the last year you could keep them. These are the rounds they were drafted or kept last year, so you would need to keep them two rounds earlier this year.

There’s a discrepency in my keeper list last year which I remembered when I was double checking the drops last year. Two days after Dion Lewis got put on IR, I dropped him by accident. I meant to drop Jacob Tamme, a different player, to make room on my roster to pick someone up. Under normal circumstances I’d have said “hey commish, I fucked up, can you undo that roster move?” but since he was on IR, no one else was going to pick him up, so I just waited until he cleared waivers and picked him back up and dropped the player I originally intended to drop since it was easier and didn’t involve the commish fooling around with it.

I dropped him mid-week and picked him back up before the games Sunday, because that’s when I did my roster management. I gained no advantage by dropping him, because no games were played between the drop and re-pickup. It’s not like I used the extra slot for something productive. I just made a simple misclick when picking who to drop, and as I said, it was easier just to rectify it myself rather than involve the commish. I wouldn’t have even brought it up this year, except that I’m the commisioner and I wanted to avoid looking like I’m doing something to favor myself.

I could not have taken advantage of this in any way - check the dates yourselves. I then held onto Dion Lewis through the end of the year, using a roster slot on him, as I intended to do all along.

As such, I think it’s reasonable to keep Dion Lewis on my keeper list. It was basically a misclick and book keeping mistake that did not result in any benefit, and I paid the price to keep him by having him on my roster for the rest of the year. I’m only mentioning this to be completely upfront and avoid the appearance of corruption.

Any objections? If so, why?

Okay, another issue I just noticed. I copied the draft order from Munch’s post without looking at it closely, because I thought I understood the draft order. But it looks like nonsense, now that I look at it:

Draft Pick Last Year's Finish
    1 14
    2 13
    3 12
    4 11
    5 1
    6 2
    7 3
    8 4
    9 10
    10 9
    11 8
    12 7
    13 6
    14 5

According to those, the first draft pick goes to the last placed player. But we know that’s not the case, since the consolation bowl gets picks 1-4. And then the playoffs finishers (places 1 through 4) draft 5th through 8th. Is that how it’s done in this league? And then places 9 through 14 draft in reverse order. That’s a convoluted mess and doesn’t look right at all. Did Munch just make that in error, or am I missing something?

As far as I remember, our draft order is actually supposed to be

Draft Pick	Last year's finish
1 5
2 6
3 7
4 8
5 14
6 13
7 12
8 11
9 10
10 9
11 4
12 3
13 2
14 1

In other words, the top 4 picks go to the consolation bracket, and then we do reverse order of standings.

Can someone clear this up? Preferably Munch.

OK, just waiting on the verification or whatever I need to log in to the league page…

Don’t worry, you’re in, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to assign what team to what new player. Assuming you still want HungryHungryHaruspex’s roster, I’m going to see if motu is okay with taking No Use For A Name. If so, those will be the team, but if you both want the same roster we’ll just randomly determine who gets it. I won’t actually send the invite until we figure out who is getting what team (since I’m inviting to that roster specifically) but you can PM me an e-mail address so I can get the invite to you when it’s time.

I’m not Munch, but this order is what I recall.

Are we able to do any keeper trading?

As in trading the rights for players you could keep but wouldn’t? Yes - seems a bit weird to me, but there are multiple instances of that happening in past years so it seems to be normal. The stipulation is that you both need to enter the draft with 16 keepers/picks, so if you, say, trade keeper rights for a 10th round pick, you need to send your own 16th round pick back to make it even.

Alright, so here’s where we are in the league. 9 teams have signed back up. Munch sent me a PM that he would be playing in the league this year but hasn’t actually taken his invite. But that should be 10 people all signed up.

Retrovertigo and JSexton are leaving the league this year. Johnny Ace and motu will be replacing them. Johnny Ace expressed a preference for inheriting the JSexton/HungryHungryHaruspex roster. I just PM’d motu to ask if he’s okay with accepting the No Use For A Name roster. If they both want the same roster, I’m going to use a coin flip to decide who gets it.

We haven’t heard back from Spiritus Mundi or furt. I’m going to send them PMs to ask them to sign up this year so we’re all ready to go, otherwise I’m going to have to start looking for more recruits soon.

Edit: Spiritus Mundi hasn’t been on the boards for a year, so a PM isn’t going to help. I’ll send him another e-mail but I’m not sure if he’s still available. If the new recruits want to postpone being assigned a team until we confirm everyone else is in (and hence may get a new roster up for grabs), that’s fine.

We’ve got some slots open in The Big League if anyone would be interested in trying something different. I like to try to recruit from my other leagues first, before open sign ups, since I know you guys are reliable.

The Big League has 20 players which changes the dynamic dramatically. You’ve got to stretch the available talent further and finding sleepers is really important. it also opens up a lot of different strategies to the draft - moreso than other leagues. It’s an auction draft and people approach it with very different strategies.

Because it’s so different, yahoo’s pre-valuing system just won’t work. There’s more money chasing fewer people so the values are different. Which means you must attend the draft if you want to participate in this league. An auto-drafted team is just not viable and would disturb league balance by giving up 14 free wins.

The draft is Tuesday Sep 6 at 8:30 Eastern (may shift to 8:00 if no one objects).

If you’re interested in playing in that league this year, PM me or post in that thread and I’ll get you set up.

Confirming that I won’t be in the league this year/ Good luck to whoever gets my team, crush it!

Alright, furt has confirmed to me that he won’t be back this year either. So we need 3 replacements, of which we have two people ready to go. I will work on getting a third. If anyone is reading this thread and wants to participate, please post.

This also mean’s furt’s roster is already up for grabs. Would either of you prefer this roster?

Fightin’ Quakers
3. (37) Todd Gurley (StL - RB)
6. (76) Matthew Stafford (Det - QB)
7. (93) Matt Jones (Was - RB)
10. (132) Marcus Mariota (Ten - QB)
**11. (149) Jeremy Maclin  (KC - WR)
13. (177) Kelvin Benjamin (Car - WR)
15. (205) Karlos Williams (Buf - RB)

to the ones you already expressed interest in taking over? If I understand the draft order correctly (only one person has chimed in and indicated my understand is correct and the list I copied from last year’s thread was wrong) Furt would be drafting 13th in the first round, making Gurley a worthwhile 1st round keeper.

Benjamin’s well worth the keeper value there too, I think. A bit of a risk, but at 13th round nothing to sneeze at. I could deal with that team.

Benjamin would be the 11th round with the two round penalty. Still great value.

Heck, I’d like to quit the league and rejoin and get that keeper roster… besides Gurley and Benjamin, Matt Jones is decent value in the 5th, Mariota could be worthwhile in the 8th, and even Karlos Williams in the 13th is worth some thought.
I even briefly attended UPenn so I could keep the team nickname!

Just kidding… mostly.

Ah…didn’t know about the two-round penalty; I haven’t been able to read the rules yet. I was assuming same-round. Still good, though.

I’m really not sure I’d want to give up a third-rounder to get involved in the 'Skins backfield. I’m still feeling the burn from Shanahannigans. Besides, he’s only a flex option (assuming you have a flex), maybe a RB2. I don’t think he’s the second coming of Alfred Morris.

I want Mariota to do well, and it looks like he may have the weapons on paper, but I’m not sure I can trust him as my #1, so I might have to blow two QB picks in the first eight rounds in that scenario.

Some interesting possibilities, though.

Edit window closed…

I misread that…Jones would be 5th round. That actually makes him doable, but still not an option I’m particularly enthused about.

Quakers look to be the best team but I would be fine with any of the three

Was No Use For a Name autopicked or something? I mean, Seattle round 5 and Gostkowski round 7???

I’m guessing keepers that were drafted 7 & 9 the year before

Yahoo autodrafter will fill in empty slots before any bench slots, leading to a lot of defenses and kickers being taken early, but even that doesn’t make sense - 5th round wouldn’t be where it would autodraft a defense. I guess for some reason the top defense and kicker really were rated that highly by yahoo last year which seems weird too. But yeah, it was the result of auto-drafting. Definitely a good reason to avoid autodrafting.

Alright, so I’m going to get our two recruits squared away and then get that last slot filled.

motu wanted take over furt’s roster. Johnny, are you still good with the HungryHungryHaruspex roster? If so, I’ll get you guys signed up today and the other recruit will get the No Use For A Name roster.
