I access the board from 3 different computers. On two of the computers I access them from my “favorites”. On the computer in the telephone room at work, I must type in “board.straightdope.com/sdmb”. When I do this on that one computer, I get the “download from this location” dialog box.
So, I went to “straightdope.com” and hit the message board link. I got the dialog box. I finally got through with the Threadspotting link.
What file is that computer trying to download and why? Just curious.
Probably trying to download login cookies. Why you get them on one computer and not the other two is probably based on the settings in the browser.
Reading the sticky about being automatically logged out at the top of this forum might provide more info.
Pretty sure it’s a cookie, like Spritle said, but it would help if you copied the exact message you see in the dialog box along with the file name you are being asked to download.
The next time it happens, I’ll copy the info.
I’m not about to log off and never get to log back on again.
