The SDMB Weight Loss Club - Part Deux

Pictures, dammit! I wanna see pictures!

Seriously, is there a way we can do this? Post pictures of those of us who are SDMB Losers? We used to do it in the NG I used to belong to, alt.support.diet.low-carb.

Then again, y’all might not be interested, and that’s… okay, (channeling Stuart Smalley) because you’re tough enough, you’re brave enough, and goshdarn it, I like y’all!

Q

No loss, no gain. 203 for me. Gotta drink more water, dammit! Also gotta watch the cals as well as the carbs.

Q

Hey Quasi, me too! 147.4, two weeks in a row.

I am fully recommitted to my goals and next week, in New York, I will weigh in at WW and the scale will reflect my absolute badassity!

Knowhuttumsayin’?

Gazelle, is that correct? June 2000 is when you joined?

I have also been trying to lose weight, but I didn’t want to post about it, because, well, I was afraid you’d all mock me. I was up to 120 lbs, which, for me, is pretty heavy. (I’m 5 feet tall.) So I’ve cut out a great deal of sugar from my diet, and some carbs, (like potatoes, pasta, etc.) It’s kind of an Atkins diet lite. I’ve also started a weight lifting program and an ab program. (I do weights one night, abs and legs the next.) So far I’ve lost 5 lbs in three weeks. Which I feel is pretty good. I’d like to get down to 105 again.

Ahseewhatchoomean!

Q

So far I’ve lost 8 pounds, and started walking a mile a day. Yay me!

Yep, that date is correct, Gingerbabe. I’ve been taking what my leader calls “the scenic route.”

I lost my first 10% in the first two months and the lowest I’ve been was 145.8 pounds in November 2000.

The heaviest I’ve gotten was within five pounds of starting weight in 2001 sometime… I’ve weighed around 150 pounds since then. Basically, losing weight is only one of several issues I’ve dealt with over the past 3 years. Weight Watchers has been my rock. I’ve missed maybe ten meetings in the last three years. An Hell, I practiced unhealthy eating habits for over 30 years. It’s going to take a while to replace the bad habits with good ones.

I know I’m going to hit goal before my birthday (November 9) because the issues are cleared up and my self-esteem is the highest its been in my adult life.

Word to Big Bird.

I’m down for sharing some pictures. You find the site, I’ll get El Hubbo to take a new one. Finding an old one, pre-Weight Watchers, will be a chore… But I’ll work on it.

Tell you a little secret: When I finally hit my healthy weight range, I’m considering actually submitting my story and pictures to Weight Watchers magazine… Eeek!

When I posted to the last thread, I think my weight was in the mid 270’s. On the 3rd of May I started riding my bike again, and for the most part, I stopped drinking beer. Yesterday I was a svelte 264. I want to be at 250 by Father’s Day, which seems doable.

Ok folks seriously, anyone know how to lose the Marriage Weight?

I weighted 190 for EVER. now that I am 220, I feel like moose. My doc said to blame my wife…not really, but because I am not on the prowl anymore, and eat three square a day, I simply gained what I didn’t expend.

How do I lose the hard stuff to lose, the small tire etc…etc…

I USED TO BE LEAN!!! granted that when i was 27, now at 33, I’m feeling the blahhhhhhhh

I lost 4 pounds this week (I just started week #4 on WW) for a total of 8.8.

I had been going to meetings on Monday night at 6:30, after dinner. Which meant that I was weighing in after the weekend and after a full day of meals. Last week I only lost 1.8 pounds. I felt like I was getting cheated, so I decided to go to a morning meeting yesterday, before I ate anything.

My husband thought I was being silly, because it all works out in the end anyway. But isn’t weighing first thing in the morning the best thing to do? Doesn’t your weight fluctuate throughout the day, making it difficult to get an accurate number?

He said I could very easily have another 1.8 or less weight loss next week. I understand that, but feel it would be more accurate and wouldn’t feel as frustrated about it.

What does everyone else think?

I agree with this theory, which is why I weigh myself in the morning, before drinking any water, while naked. In my head I’m getting my ‘true’ weight this way . :o I wonder if this is actually the most accurate number?

Congratulations on those who have lost weight!!! Keep up the good work!

Phlosphr - I think we come from similar situations.

My 1 year anniversary is this Saturday and as of mid-February I was up to 214lbs and had a BMI of over 34%. By the way, I turned 34 three weeks ago and am 5’9 tall. As of today, I am at 179.4 (morning weight) and my BMI is very close to tipping below 20%.

For me, it involved quitting smoking, changing my eating habits, and exercise, exercise, exercise. Amazingly enough, changing the eating habits has felt harder than quitting smoking - probably b/c of the increase exercise I don’t even miss cigarettes and I am truly amusing myself with what I’m able to do now with wheezing/hacking/gasping/dying from the smokes. I have not had a soda or eaten fast-food in 3 months. That is not to say I am eating twigs and berries. I am just eating smarter and with normal portions, not the “Super Sized” everything you get now-a-days.

I’ve recommended this on the other thread, but take a look at Diet Power. It really helped me set a goal and monitor my eating and exercise. I really do not think I would have gotten where I have so far without it.

Good luck,

MeanJoe

Hey DarkWriter!

Here’s what I think. Yes, your weight fluctuates. Weight Watchers specifically warns against weighing yourself more often than once a week due to that fact.

But when it comes down to it, you’re not really looking for a perfectly accurate reading, are you? You’re looking for a general downward trend in your weight, over time.

Shoot, your weight can be different depending on the time of the day, the month (for women) and what clothes you’re wearing.

Weigh in on the same day at approximately the same time and you’ll be close.

Weight Watchers has done a ton of research. IIRC, half a pound to a pound of weight loss per week is average (scout1222, please correct me if I’m wrong) and SAFE.

Ashkicker, maybe you can give me some tips when we meet up at the Knoxdope next month. I’m playing this diet by ear and don’t really know much about nutrition so maybe you can help me find something that won’t pack on the pounds while we’re there.

Also, after being admonished by, what, half a dozen of you over my poor diet, and talking to ultrafilter on AIM last night, I’ve forced myself to eat a bit more even though I wasn’t hungry. I got up today and had a bowl of Kix and an orange for breakfast even though I never eat breakfast and I’ll probably eat a sandwich and an apple for lunch before going to work. After that, I’ll eat whatever my mom fixes for dinner.

I hope you’re all happy. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, yeah… by the way, I was at 325 this time around and as of last night, I’m at 312 after about two weeks.

I second the utility of the Diet Power program.

Erm… I also didn’t post here because I didn’t want to be mocked, but I’m trying to lose around 5 lbs and get down to 112 or so. Counting calories, walking, limiting fat intake and lifting weights will hopefully get me there fairly quickly.

Okay, folks! We got our work cut out for us! Mean Joe is the Official Welcoming Committee. Quasimodem Is on the Official Cheerleading Squad. Who wants to sign up to be on the Official Mocking Committee?

Where’s Mockingbird when you need him?
