norinew you sound like you have my build. I’m 5’9" and I have a large frame. I think if I were at 150 or 160 I’d look practically skeletal with my frame. I have really, really wide hips. At 215 my pelvic bone is visible as is my collar bone. I can gain/lose 20lbs and it hardly makes a difference with my frame. I’ll still be in the same size clothes, they just might be a little looser or a little tighter. It’s kinda a double edge sword that way. If I gain it isn’t incredibly noticeable but if I lose it isn’t incredibly noticeable either.
Anyway, because of my frame I’d be so happy to be at 180 or so. It sounds large for a woman but I think I’d look just dandy at that weight. I’d have my curves and not look like a beached whale in a bathing suit.
As far as the whole eating things goes, I generally try to do better about cuting back on sodas and sweets but last week I just gave up. I’ll do better this week and I’m back at the gym so we’ll see how things go.
And congrats on the 26. That’s a big drop in sizes and you should be proud of yourself. I started out at 235 and a size 20 (but heading straight to a 22) and now I’ve lost about 20lbs and I’m still a 20 but they’re finally getting loose!
norinew: Thanks! :D:D:D My SO (yeah, that one), is your size as well, and she’s losing too, although I have absolutely no complaints about her looks or her size. (I have always been crazy about those svelte women in the Boticelli paintings!:D)
Yeah, my hubby doesn’t have any complaints about my looks or my size, either. I was big when we got married. His only concern is that as I get older, my size will cause health problems. Also, I frequently get kidney stones, which sometimes need surgery, and my size makes surgery higher risk. He’s really only concerned about my health.
Thanks, MeanJoe! Musta been that virtual “ass-kickin’” you gave me a few posts ago.
I am able to get into a pair of jeans I keep around that are a 38 inch waist. I call them my “reference jeans”, so that I can kinda track my loss of inches along with my twice a week scale weigh-in.
I kinda “yodel” when I speak with 'em on, but I’m in 'em, by God!
It’s really frustrating not to eat while I’m on my night shift job, 'cause we have some really nice ER docs who don’t mind buying pizza, hamburgers, Chinese, or Krispy-Kremes for their crew, but I’ve been able to resist, thanks to this thread and my desire to look and feel better.
Are any of the rest of ya’ night shift workers, and if so, are you having the same difficulties that I am?
Whatever you’re doing to lose, keep it up, because you’re helping me while you’re helping you!
I work a 2-10 and a 5-10 pm shift, and a 6am-2pm shift on the weekends. I don’t leave, I don’t allow people to bring me food unless it’s Dave, and I’ve been very, very good about not drinking the beverages from the vending machine.
I make my food to take with me before I go. I usually take salad, yogurt, some cheese perhaps, fruit. And water water water! People quite often offer, but I always politely decline.
Great idea, especially about the vending machine drinks, but I bring mine to work with me, 'cause they are cheaper that way, and I have developed a habit with the Diet Dr. Peppers: 4 a night.
It used to be 6, until I realized they were slowing down my weight loss, so I am weaning myself off them and substituting my favorite German water, Gerolsteiner for the carbonation my palate misses.
Because I am such a lazy buzzard by nature, I don’t pre-prepare my meals, but often take the raw materials (patties, etc.) with me to work and fix them there.
Still, I think it puts weight on me on the mornings when I can’t ride my bike after work, and so I go to sleep with that low-carb weight on my tummy and wake up with it that way in the afternoons when I have to get ready to go back to work.
Any insights as to a similar situation and what you are doing about it would be greatly appreciated!
The WW leader told me (before I quit) that their studies have shown that you can eat at whatever time during the day, and it doesn’t make a difference. I eat whenever I feel like it, in fact, and I’m doing pretty well. Consistently losing.
Stop with the Dr. Pepper. Diet Doctor Pepper makes you gay. It’s true! A lesbian told me! REALLY! And she is a Doper! Plus, Dr. Pepper makes me ick.
Quasi, congratulations! I love the idea of “reference jeans”!
My weight’s been the same for a couple of weeks, but my cholesterol is 132 and my triglycerides are 53, so I remind myself that all this lettuce and walking is doing something even if my weight’s not moving. (Dang! I didn’t even know you could have numbers this low.)
I weighed myself twice today. The first time, I was at 307. Thinking it odd that I lost five pounds over the weekend, I weighed myself again immediately thereafter to discover that, in the three seconds I was standing there, I had lost another four pounds and was down to 303.
I hope you take the smaller number. It’s what I would do, or get a new scale. Anyway, it looks like you are doing the right thing, whatever you’re doing. Go from there and be happy! I’ll be watching your “loser” posts, here! "D

Don’t forget, Ginger, just because your weight is staying the same, inches probably aren’t. The idea of “test jeans” is a good one, and it helps you get an all-over idea of what is losing how much.
Because I have muscular dystrophy, I lead a very, very sedintary life. Exercise isn’t really an option because it can actually cause an increase in muscle deterioration. I also love my snacks So a few month ago, I tipped the scale at the MDA clinic at about 262 pounds. My doctor also told me I was diabetic.
So I’ve been eating a low-calorie, low carbohydrate diet. When I was weighed at the dietician’s office last month, after about a month of dieting, my weight was 247 lbs.
My home scale is pretty much in agreement with the dietician’s scale, and Sunday night my weight was 243.
I don’t notice a difference in my appearance, yet, but my clothes are looser, and I have an easier time breathing. I don’t get winded as easily as I did a few months ago.
The dietician said she only expects me to lose a pound or two a month, so I think so far I’m ahead of the game.
I don’t have a goal weight, really. My doctor told me if I lost 10-20 pounds, I might not be diabetic anymore, but my last glycohemoglobin test (about 2 weeks ago) was still too high. So the doctor told me to retest in August, and if it’s still too high, he’ll put me on pills.
So my goal is to not be diabetic and not to have to take pills.
Mockingbird is on his fourth day of Weight Watchers(so far there’s been only one day where I was 2 points over).
I’d never mock someone for wanting to lose weight or working on their weight loss goal. There are enough threads for that in the pit.
Y’know… it does annoy me that Weight Watchers killed the development of WWCalc(a free points calculator/Journal for the Palm).
Yes, there is there patent on the points system, and yes… it stops people from wanting to buy their clunky and bulky points calculator.
BUT… for poor people like me who do NOT want to be carrying extra crap, it is so NICE to have this fully functional program(which still has the right data even though it was killed under a cease and desist last year) to fgure out point values and keep track of my points, exercise, water, and all the other variables in the WW program.
I cannot imagine taking that paper slide rule grocery shopping. BLEH!
For what it’s worth, back in my WW days, when I was still trying to do the “moderation” thing, I did take it to the grocery store with me, and it was a pain in the ass. However, I was shocked by how different the point values can be for different brands of the same product!
For anyone who is low-carbing or low-sugaring, I got a new cookbook called “500 Low-Carb Recipes” by Dana Carpender.
Amazon sells it for under $15.00. We’ve tried several of the recipes already, and have been very pleased. She tries to focus on easy to prepare, reasonably inexpensive, not-too-hard-to-find ingredients. I recommend it!
