The SDMB Weight Loss Club Part Drei (three)

I’m down 49 pounds today. I wanted SO MUCH to be at 50. Oh well, I will be by next Friday.

Ginger, you’re almost there!! Congrats!

Well, I was doing great, up until June. Then seriously fell off the wagon. I was down to 196, and running 4 - 5 miles a day. Now I’m at 211 again, and barely running at all…sigh. Oh well…it should be easier to get started again this second time, and next summer shouldn’t have all the interruptions that this one did.

And I first read your post as saying that your ‘lost’ weight was 143…lol. I was about to be really really impressed.

liirogue, I’m really not ‘almost there’. I have another 31 lbs to go.

Are there guidelines for joining this thread?

I’m just trying to eat less and force myself to go to the gym. Not following any program.

I would search for the first part of this thread, but I’m too damned lazy. Besides, I have to go to work now.

Tell me about it! I’ve two rings, a wedding band and a signet ring. Both are now incredibly loose and I’m continuously worried about losing both. And I’ve got to tie my shoes a lot tighter now. It’s the weirdest thing. When I started this whole thing, I never imagined losing weight from my fingers. Huh.

Contrary to your experience, however, all my weight loss was from my face and my tum until recently, when my hands, wrists and feet started to go.

Mikie there are no rules for joining! Just pop right on in and out as you feel the need. We just start a new thread everytime the old one gets too long.

And welcome to the club (:

Aguecheek, I also have droopy rings. I wear my wedding band on the outside because it will be less expensive to replace if I lose it. Dammit. I have a ways to go before I’ll get them sized, too.

Well, if it’s any comfort, you have company. I’ve always been a pretty large person, even at my fighting weight: I’m 5’10.5" and my ideal weight is 150. I wear a large in almost everything, I often have to buy men’s shoes because it’s very hard to find a 10.5 WW in women’s, and it’s difficult to find shirts with long enough sleeves or pants with long enough legs.

But I wear a small in hats. Now, a friend saying something insensitive is one thing, but that’s empirical evidence I just can’t ignore. You can do what I do and think of your head as “petite” rather than small (no, it won’t help).

As for the subject of the thread, I started going to the gym and watching what I ate back in January. I began with low-impact aerobics twice a week and weights once a week and worked in more and more activity as I went on. I now do high-intensity aerobics four times a week, low-impact and weights twice a week, yoga every Thursday, and a salsa dance class every other Saturday or so (it’s hard to get up on Saturday). I’ve been eating between 1500 and 1800 calories a day, I make sure I get at least 55 grams of protein, and I keep an eye on all the other nutrients. There’s not a lot of room for empty calories at that level, not when I’m doing that kind of activity. I’m planning to gradually add more calories until I’m taking in about 2000 a day, which is what I think will be maintenance level when I reach my goal.

As of two days ago, I weighed 160 lbs. That’s down from 215 in January, when my doctor suggested I might want to consider doing something more than just thinking about weight loss. That’s 55 lbs. so far, and I have about 10 to go. I’m thinking that I should be there by the end of December.

I’m so happy this thread is here - this is everything I’ve been dying to tell all my friends but have been refraining from saying because it can be SO tedious to listen to people who are on weight-loss programs when you’re not on one yourself. Thank you all!

Sounds to me like another success story in the works, IL. Congratulations! I hope you’ll keep posting!

160, huh? I don’t think I ever weighed that! Just went from kid-weight right to 260!

(The above numbers represent starting weight, present weight, and goal, case anyone’s wondering!;))

I’m not trying to lose weight per se as much as I am trying to get healthy in general. But I’m taking it slow, first step - cut McDonalds and coke out of my diet. Can’t believe how hard that has been; even with substituting Pepsi max for coke so I don’t get caffeine withdrawal.

Also trying to walk for 30 minutes each day, got told this is good for my bones and helps prevent osteoporosis.

No idea what I weigh - my bathroom scales got drowned and broke.

I’m down .25 lbs overnight, after not drinking enough water, having two drinks, and eating chips last night. Sooooo. I should eat too much salty food every day.

I’m sure I will hit 50 lbs in the next couple of days.

Hey, you’re still doing awesome! Course, I’m the oppisate of you–30 lbs down, and 50 to go! Wanna switch?

Good luck on getting your last .75 lbs out of the way!

Are you out of your Yankee mind? I’ve worked for these 49.25 lbs. TRY AND TAKE IT FROM ME.

FIFTY!

WooHoo! Go Ginger!!

Heeeeyyy, you’re gonna look HOT at Dope-A-Ween, and I’m still gonna look fat! I’ll go pout now! (Unless I can think of a way to lose 50 more pounds in 13 days!)

Here’s something else that’s good that’s allowed on Atkins: spread a slice of ham lunchmeat with cream cheese; wrap around a dill pickly spear, enjoy. It doesn’t sound wonderful, but it really tastes good!

While we’re talkin’ about low-carb wraps, you might want to try this (if you like to cook): mix 8 oz. softened cream cheese with about 10 finely minced scallions; pound out 5 boneless, skinless chicken thighs until they’re very flat. Put a tablespoonful of cream cheese mix in middle of each chicken thigh. Roll the chicken around the cream cheese, then wrap strips of uncooked bacon around the chicken and secure with toothpicks. Cook over medium/low heat on a gas grill for about 30 minutes. These are easy and tasty, and look impressive if you have company.

I did that on Friday.

The chicken sounds good.

Whoo Ginger!!!

And I guess I’ll let you keep the weight loss…but if you feel like sharing, let me know

I still have a bunch to go, norine. I’m gonna look fat for another four or five months, I think.
