All right, I finally got the South Beach Diet book, and I’ve already read it. I am ready to go kick some booty! (well, mine at least). My mom’s going to do it with me, so that’ll make it easier, but the hubby is very skeptical, to say the least!
has it been effortless to lose it for you? what is your program? you may have answered it in the other post but i probably didn’t see it.
right now im at a 42" waist. (one) of my goals is to get under a 40" waist. 40" is considered a milestone in health and for me at least, social standing (being under 40" makes you only ‘somewhat fat’) When i wake up in the morning it is usually 41" but that is due to the fact that i haven’t eaten any for 10 hours. By 3pm or so its about 42". However i am pretty sure it is only a month away before my waist is under 40" most of the time. that’ll be nice if i get to 40" by november 15th, then i’ll have lost 10.5" off my waist in 5 months.
Wesley Clark, I am doing Weight Watchers and working out three-five times per week. It has been pretty damned painless, and no drugs or surgery. I don’t understand the Sturm Und Drang, really.
Well, I was doing well there for a while a few months back, but work started up and my gym membership ended… and I just fell off the wagon. I only gained a few pounds back, but dagnabbit, it was frustrating. Plus, I was tired of being hungry all the time.
So, a few weeks ago, I went on Atkins. I’ve had two doctors recommend that I go on a low-carb diet due to the fact that I have PCOS, but I’ve been in denial (how can I live without bread? Ice Cream?) about it for years.
I can’t believe the change after only a few weeks. I’m eating healthier than I ever have before, I’m not hungry, and I don’t have the sleeping problems I used to, and my hormones seem to be normalizing. On top of that, I’ve lost 16 pounds. I’m pretty happy about all of that.
I have about another 70 to go, but I think I’ve got an excellent start on things.
Yeah! I’m on my 2nd day of South Beach Diet, and the scale shows I lost 3 lbs already! (yesyes, I know it’s probably water weight, but I need all the encouragement I can get!)
I am craving bread and icecream like nothing else… but I haven’t cheated yet!
I’m about 40 pounds over preferrable. Which is better than the 50 pounds over I used to be. What made the difference? Horrible Horrible co-worker on a dieting roller-coaster. Let me be clear - she was horrible LONG before the diet and being on a diet is not what makes her horrible. However since she loudly claims to be superior in every way and is quick to point out anything she can to win her arguments (this is not the place for me to get started on that)… just hearing her talk about her professional diet superiority all the time… made me loose my appeteit… and I’ve lost 10 pounds. No kidding.
I was planning on working towards a little healthier lifestyle with some nutricious and exercise worked in more often. I really would like to get down to a reasonable weight… but this outcome was a surprise. I got so tired of hearing about food all the time that I just had no desire to eat anymore. Interesting.
I just started Atkins on 10/5/03. My carb cravings have almost completely disapeared, which is wonderful considering that I used to have toast all to myself almost every night. The problems with shaking and feeling sick and faint that occured when I got hungry before have now disapeared as well. That is enough to keep me eating this way.
I have cheated twice, first by having a beer Friday night (I was in a car accident, and needed desperately to relax) and Saturday night I had a couple (read:four+) cups of coffee.
I have never been thin. I dont remember it if I was. I have a good figure, but thin has never been part of the picture. I’m kinda scared, not knowing what I will look like. I hope my boobs dont deflate, not completely anyway. I could deal with being a small D, or a C. That would be nice.
I have been going through about 6 16.9 oz bottles of water a day, and at times feel as though I could pee myself my own Nile to float down.
(eeewwwww…)
I sure hope this works.
Oh, and Congrats to everyone!
Haven’t posted much in the last little while, and what I have posted has been eaten by hamsters. At any rate…Yay for everyone! Congrats to Ginger, JavaMaven, Pammipoo, InternetLegend, Quasi, norinew, Johnny L.A. and liirogue! And good luck to everyone who’s starting out.
[sub]If I’ve missed anyone, please don’t hit me…my boss keeps walking by and it’s hard to follow all the names![/sub]
Bad news and good news on my part:
Bad - my parents were out to visit for the week last week, and my diet was shot to hell. I ate a lot. I didn’t lose an ounce, and only 3.5 lbs to go!
206 today. Hoping to get down to 200 before vacation time (Thanksgiving Day), but I’d be a happy boy if I had maybe a 2 pound “cushion”, so I could go a little nuts on all the bier and good food I’m gonna be tempted with over there!
lilrogue, it is also my understanding that the cravings for high carb foods do, indeed, disappear. Oh, and when you’re ready to allow yourself a low-carb treat, Slim Fast now makes low-carb nutrition/candy bars that are pretty darned good. They come in two flavors: chocolate-peanut butter and cookies and cream. Both are good, and they are under $1.00 at both Wal-Mart and my local grocery store.
I’m sooooo hungry. Had a huge breakfast of 4 weet bix, lots of milk and 2 cups of tea (about twice what I usually have). But then I got off the tram a couple of stops earlier so I could get some walking in.
Breakfast was a 6am and now it is about 10.30am and my tummy is growling.
Must remember to bring snacks to work tomorrow, I didn’t think a little extra walking would make me this hungry.
Well, I’m just a beginner, but I am pleased that in 4 weeks I’ve lost 1.5kg. Especially since one week was a “lost week” containing: my partner’s birthday, my birthday, a birthday dinner out, a wedding, a party, houseguests with foodie tastes, my Mum visiting, and a birthday cake.
So, my plan is the CSIRO diet which is high protein, lowish fat and lowish carbs. Not Atkins…
With mods for long-term keepability:
less fish, more chicken (partner hates fish)
an extra ration of chocolate to 600kJ per day (3 squares Lindt 85%, or similar)
just not caring at all on birthdays and other special occasions.
drinking as much as I like on weekends - adds about 3-4 drinks per week.
pizza once a fortnight.
I figure it took me 10 years to gain the extra 20kg; if I lose it in 2 years that would be quite adequate.
Also I’m using the Hacker’s Diet tools on my palm pilot for tracking the weight, so it’s a moving average. Less experimental error than a weekly check. http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/comptools.html
I’ve added a little exercise but there’s more to go. My birthday present was a pushbike. One I put a rack on it, I can commute.
Now I’m REALLY back on plan. You think I’d be ashamed of admitting to you guys hoe often I fall off, and I guess I kinda am, but whatever. This time I am really sticking to it.
