Good for you, Andrew! That’s great!
Don’t know if y’all caught it or not, but Aguecheek said in his post that he “stepped” his butt up to the scales?
He was speaking figuratively, but I think some days I can do it literally! Just grab that ole thang, swing it around and hold it in front of me as we both step on the scales.
Don’t that make a nice “word picture”?
Hello?
:Hmmmm. They musta gone out to exercise, or somethin’:
Q
You guys!
Seriously - I tend to lurk more than I post (that and the hamsters severely limit by ability to add more). And reading what’s been posted here has helped a great deal. Particularly with the cravings. Things I never posted included the time I was in tears at the grocery store after I’d been dragged through the pastry section or my guilty pleasure over the 1 peanut M&M per day from the office supply. Just how you guys (and my sister who’s my IRL support) have weathered the same things I did was, I believe, the best way to go through all that.
Quasi, you’re more than welcome to hang out with me anytime! We can throw on Speedos and really impress the chicks at the beach! [sub]You just gotta promise not to tell the cool kids about me cryin’ at the grocery store, ok?[/sub]
norinew, it’s too bad I never met you when I lived in MD, but when I’m out next May, we’ll have to make sure you come out to play. An’ I wanna see a new skinny Ginger, too!
And Shoshana, it’s good to see you’re back at it after the hiccups you had. Keep testing the blood sugar and enjoy the bacon.
I’m gonna keep reading this thread to watch everyone else hit the good times.
Stay with me on this one, y’all, ‘cause as Steve Martin used to say,
"I’m a ramblin’ guy!"
Okay. Ever heard of someone winning the lottery and maybe the
person who won wasn’t someone who, in your opinion, needed
the money?
And then there’s the opposite side of the coin: Somebody who’s done
all they could all of their lives to make things better for their kids and others
and were content just to “make ends meet” (if they could)? And when
they hit it big, did you remember thinking “Well all right! Good for
them!” And maybe those same folks might have taken some of that money
and given it to the community and/or their church?
My point is, we tend to cheer for those who need it and we are happy when
those folks win. Whether it’s the lottery, or whatever it might be. That’s just
part of being American and human. We love the underdog and we love it
when he or she wins!
So it is with this thread. We have had three reincarnations so far and there
have been some great successes. But those “wins” weren’t handed to
our weight-loss buds: They were earned. However they were achieved,
they were earned. When I read Aguecheek’s thread about the big one-
six-oh, I felt so good for him, and it made me think that those of you
who have achieved your ideal weights need to be recognized. In other words,
we need an SDMB Weight Loss Hall of Fame and those people whose
names who will be on it will serve as an inspiration to the rest of us, and we hope
they will hang around to lend their support to those who still have a ways to go.
So if someone will help me, let’s get those nicknames together and honor them
in a separate thread. They can be the “Lance Armstrongs” or (insert your hero
here__________) of the SDMB Weight Loss thread.
Thanks

I would like to point out that at West Georgia College in Carrollton Georgia, I majored in English Lit. I must have majored in eveything else lit as well, because the mis-use of my vernacular and English grammar just astounds me (And you may sound that sentence out in a James Stewart voice, if-if-if you like!
Q
(hugs Aguecheek)
(is bruised by the hardbody!)
Congrats Ague!!
While on a diet, is anyone else having a really hard time with dry mouth? I’m finding that I almost can’t talk at times, my mouth is so dry, and I am wondering if something is wrong.
Quasi, Zev popped in (I think in the first thread) to say he’d reached his goal, and even provided pics
Dry mouth has never been an issue with me, as long as I’m drinking all my water. Seriously - I drink between 2 and 3 liters a day on average. If I’m in a situation where I can’t get enough, I really feel it.
Hydration is a biggie - drink your water!

liirogue, thanks! I just went through all the pages of the thread (Thanks Mean Joe!) and found that Zev was our very first success story.
Since then, I think OpalCat is our next person on the “Hall of Fame List”.
Friends, to me it don’t matter how you lost it. It just matters that you did, and that you feel better because of it.
So… after all the searching me and liirogue did, is it okay to start our [size=7]STRAIGHT DOPE WEIGHT LOSS HEROES** threadwith those names?
Quasi
I think that’s a funky cool idea, Quasimodem. Kinda fun, too, to have a short and sweet version of how everyone managed to get to where they are now. Instead of having to slog through all the posts here, a potential loser could be inspired to sign up by seeing the results.
Maybe somewhere we could have links to “before,” “during,” and “after” pics as well? I got space on my webpage for pictures if anyone wants to. It’d be amateurish, but I like to think that that adds to the homey charm.
Of course, that could just be me.
Hey AG! It’s a great idea and right now it looks like You, Zev and OpalCat leading the pack.
I don’t have the where-withal to do the picture thing, but I sure would like to see y’all where you wind up.
Gene Hackman in Hoosiers: “I love you guys.”
We can do this. Jimmy Chitwood, you there?
Q
Quasi in RT: I love y’all! Sure do!
Here you go. Last year and this year at Dope-A-Ween. I wouldn’t exactly call myself skinny yet, though.
If we are doing pictures… I am nowhere near finished, but if you look at the left-hand and right-hand pictures at the top of this page, you can see what a different 25 pounds makes.
Holy crow, Cadbury. I see what you mean. I don’t think 25 lbs made that much difference in me, but I’m not all that objective.
- My blood sugar is still running low: last night it was 94 before dinner and 87 after. My stamina seems to be getting better, though, so I may even get some exercise after work today.
I started Atkins the second week of July. I wanted to lose 40 pounds. I haven’t been very strict about it, but to-date I’ve lost 27 pounds. Only 40 more to go! (So, I modified my goal.)
166.5. I’m noticing that if I eat an Atkins prepared controlled carbohydrate treat after dinner, I’m a little queasy. It may be all the extra nutrients + chemicals. I’m going to skip it tonight and see how I do.
200 baby!!! 36 down, 40 to go…
Yay Pammipoo! Good work!
Shoshana: something called “controlled carbohydrate treat” would make me stay right the hell away from it.
