The seal around my car window...

So a few years ago, someone tried to pry my front passenger window open on my older car. As a result, there are two places where, when the window rolls up, the glass is on top of the rubber seal instead of under it.

How much, if at all, will moisture get through? I can’t remember whether I ever “fixed” it before, so past performance is no guarantee, and besides, I don’t want to HAVE to remember to never roll down that window again.

Is there a way to “fix” it (I can pry the pried at parts up so that the window goes underneath, but there are two spots are quite long and quite far from each other, and every time I try to do it with one part, the rest still has the problem, since I can’t pry up all of it enough at the same time)?

Thanks in advance.

Replacing the weather seal is usually pretty inexpensive.

Is it a do it yourself thing? I’m pretty not handy. And I’d prefer to not bother if there’s no point to it, as far as keeping the interior dry. (Fortunately, there won’t be rain for a while, but still.)

It’s easier if you’re handy…
It depends on the car - some are glue-in, and some have a metal channel which snaps in.

Wait, so is there anything visibly broken on the outside or is it just that the window isn’t resting in the right place?

If it’s the latter, the window regulator (the thing that moves the glass up and down) is probably bent or broken or the glass has come loose from it. How much of an affair it will be to fix it really depends on what kind of car you’ve got. You’ll need to take the door panel off to get at the regulator, which on some older cars (especially with hand-crank windows) is really easy, but on others it’s a huge pain in the butt.

No, the window rolls up fine (although when I first rolled it all the way down yesterday afternoon, it wouldn’t roll up again until I pulled it up a bit), and is in the right place. The problem is that parts (and ONLY parts) of the weather strip on the outside of the window is pried underneath the glass instead of on top.

I’ve had insects there, and occasionally a bird, but wow. How did that happen?
