I see nothing like spitting. There is no one else in the elevator to see spitting. In the hallway before they get in the elevator she throws a swing at him and walks several feet to the elevator. He follows and they get into the elevator next to each other. We don’t have continuous footage. She takes a swing at him, we definitely see that. He retreats across the elevator, she follows leading with a punch, he throws a punch, she hits her head on the elevator railing. That is probably what knocked her out. It appears to me that she lost her balance as she lunged and swung and he hit back, and hit the side of her head on the railing.
Further review doesn’t even show he knocked her out, but rather the railing did.
We are stuck with the facts in this case. There was nobody to see spitting, nobody has come forward as such a witness, it is no better than an internet rumor at this point.
She definitely threw the first punch in the hallway, and it appears she threw another in the elevator.
It’s really as simple as that. I’ll just add that if you are a guy strong and tough enough to bang with guys in the NFL, there is zero excuse to making a fist and punching someone you could so easily defend yourself against while you are being “attacked”. I find it odd that someone who is so much stronger than his “attacker” would even think about resorting to that.
On the last day of 1999, remember Y2k? I was driving a lady’s car and she told me to get in the left lane, I looked and a city bus was coming up on that side, so I didn’t. Wham she hit me. “I said left lane.” She shouted. I jerked the wheel and slammed her car into the side of the bus. Better than hitting her, I moved out that night and ain’t seen her since. Woman against man violence is quite common and should not be shrugged off.
The reason you can’t see the spitting is that you’re such an asshole you can’t admit your error in defending a truly despicable person. It’s been explained to you, it’s pretty clear from the video.
The true depth of your disgusting misogyny is showing.
I hate to parse this ugly thing and I imagine it won’t change your position an iota if you’ve already watched it 10,000 times. However if you look at the 24 second mark he clearly leans towards her face and you see her jerk back slightly with her right eye snapping shut - exactly like she had just been spit on. Then she reacts furiously.
Not that I think it matters - he’s a fucking shitheel either way. But to me it looks like yes, he escalated things in the elevator first.
She didn’t throw anything resembling a punch at him in the hallway - her hand was open, not clenched, and even so barely grazed him if she touched him at all - and I don’t see anything that is clearly a punch by her in the elevator either.
Honestly, for you to be misrepresenting this the way you are doesn’t indicate you are “seeing something different,” it indicates some severe kind of mental defect.
I’m going to tell a story that I am not overly fond of telling, but I think it’s apropos.
I used to date a girl, lets call her “Molly” (not her real name). She actually out weighed me, and is some ways was physically stronger. I may have edged her in upper body strength a bit, but only a bit. This is not a weak woman. She was also crazy.
One night we were both drinking in my apartment and she took offense to me saying that she had lost some weight. No, I don’t know why. She got extremely violent, and started throwing punches at me while we were standing in the kitchen. I didn’t hit back, I just grabbed her arms. And then she bit me. Just clamped on to my chest like a fucking German Shephard attack dog. I couldn’t get her off of me.
I so wanted to head butt her, because that hurt. But I didn’t, even though it would have been the most effective purely physical move at that moment. I just used my upper body strength and some half remember high school wrestling stuff to peel her off of me and throw her out the goddamn front door. I still have the scar on my left pectoral muscle.
The thing is, even though I was attacked, and had to defend myself, I was in far more physical confrontation than Ray Rice. If my buck thirty five ass can defend myself against a woman who weighs more than me without throwing punches, I’m not going to give the 212 pound pro football player a pass because The Second Stone thinks that a woman that weighs much less than him “started it”.
But then that brings us back to the question, if it were a weaker man who attacked, would you say the same thing? Because I’ve never, ever heard of a man throwing a punch at another man, getting knocked out, and having anyone say, “Well he shouldn’t have resorted to that because he could have easily defended himself without punching.”
Right on, Brother! That Bitch tried to infringe upon his Men’s Rights, and he, by virtue of a well placed punch, introduced her to the Railing Of Men’s Rights Protection.
I’m confused as to your point. Are you saying that a man may never hit a woman, no matter how much danger of injury or death he is in, but it’s o.k. for a woman to beat up a man as much as she likes?
Not to speak for others, but I think the point was that he didn’t intend for her to hit her head on the railing. Are you saying Rice timed his punch perfectly and did some geometric calculations to ensure that her head would hit the railing as she fell?
My friend got his jaw broken by his girlfriend. As far as I know, she suffered no consequences whatsoever. He even tried to get back together with her later.
Nope, what I am saying is that we need to remember the weight and skill class. I’m not speaking in absolutes. There are hypothetical times where a man can hit a woman in self defense. However, I don’t buy for a second that that was the only option Ray Rice had. He’s bigger, stronger, is better at physical violence, and more importantly he knows that.
If the man in question was as relatively weak as Janay Rice was in this case? Like, if it was a typical 14 year old boy? Absolutely. It’s not about gender per se, although that’s going to be a good enough rule of thumb in 98% of cases. It’s about the fact that the woman in this case was simply not a threat to Ray Rice – COULD not be a threat unless she had a knife in her hand – and yet he chose to punch her in the face with enough force to knock her down (and quite possibly with enough force to knock her out).
To the extent that it was a reflex action in the heat of the moment and he’s genuinely contrite, I’m actually willing to forgive him. It was still despicable, though.
Good God. Another thread overrun by MRA morons. I’ve already got three on this board on ignore, looks like I need to add another couple. I’m also out, as this sort of dispicableness should only be sunk to if you’re denizen of 4chan, or Yahoo! / YouTube comments. Ignorance, in a lot of cases, isn’t just winning, it’s delivering a (accidental?) knockout punch.
This brings up a question though. How is it clear that HE made a fist? I’ve carefully watched the video several times. You cannot see anything but a blur when he strikes her. And now that I look at it again, he does not punch her in the face; it looks like he slaps the side of her head, pushing her head to the right. If he had punched her, she would have fallen backwards, not to the right. Then she immediately hits her head on the metal railing. I am becoming more and more convinced that he didn’t knock her out. He pushed her over and the railing knocked her out. Again, I’m not defending anyone, but it really looks like a lot of it was accidental.
Then as to him “callously dragging” her out of the elevator, I don’t see that either. I see him try to pick her up by reaching around her torso, which looks like a natural way you would try to lift someone who is unconscious (like as opposed to grabbing her ankles, or her head). Then it looks like he tries to grab the purse, and the elevator doors close, so then he has to pick her up more abruptly to beat the doors closing again. She’s face down at first, but then he tries to sit her up. I just don’t understand how everyone is so sure they can read his state of mind from watching that. It’s just as likely to me it’s a guy thinking, “Oh shit! My fiance is knocked out. I have to get her off the elevator.” than “I hate this bitch and I’m gonna drag her around like a rag doll.”
