The Shield 1-31

I don’t think I’ve started a duplicate thread this time, so let’s get the conversation started.

Kavanaugh has to know by now that Vic is on to him–with Corrine telling him to back off and Kavanaugh catching Vic in the “safe house” with his C.I. So how does he proceed from here?

I think Lem is going to be arrested soon, especially since Kavanaugh will have to assume that Lem told Vic he is wearing a wire.

What’s the future of our hot rookie cop? She seems to be on the verge of a breakdown, and I just can’t picture her making it through the whole season.

Vic and the Lawyer Girl have some sexual tension between them, I think. Don’t be suprised if they end up hooking up.

I can’t believe any pregnant woman would be o.k. with the stuff Danni had to put up with in this episode. Dutch pretending to carve her belly according to the murder scene, and then having her interview the potential killer of the baby and mother.

Very good episode I thought, Vic was very believable throughout, especially when holding the knife to the C.I.'s throat. His eyes get the message across very powerfully.

Yeah, Danni’s got it rough, but I think it shows that she has what it takes to be a good cop in Farmington.

Hot rookie cop won’t make it if she doesn’t change her attitude. That whole “you hate me because you’re jealous” routine pisses me off. Danni was right on target.

The psychological battle between Kavanaugh & Vic is great stuff. Unfortunately I think he’s going to come down hard on Corinne, having lost his witness against Lem. Seemed like Vic sufficiently scared her.

He scared the hell out of me! I don’t normally watch because I’m usually asleep by then, but I certainly don’t see him as a hero in this. I predict he will do something really bad. The C.I. should have narc’d him out right when the new boss walked in. I think she’s going to wake up dead.

I think the hot rookie cop would be better off just wearing her uniform to gigs as a bachelor party stripper. Dani’s right about her; she’s the kind of bitch who makes the rest of the female cops look bad. And she doesn’t carry any intrinsic authority on the street, so no perp will ever take her seriously unless she decides to beat them down, which she seems to do on a daily basis. She’s a danger to herself and others.

Also, the Strike Team is extra screwed. Vic should take early retirement and move to a totally different country.

Well, he’s not quite at that 15 year mark yet…still 3 or 4 months to go, so he’d have to survive that to even get to the reduced pension they offered. Still, I don’t see it happening…it’s not like Mackey is cut out to be private security!

I don’t think Vic is going to kill her, that would be to easy for Kavanaugh to figure out. I think she will relocate just like he told her to.

So Kavanaugh will have the following evidence at that point:

  1. No info. from Lem–except a conversation with Vic in which Vic says that he slipped up when Terry got shot–and that he has always felt responsible.

  2. A C.I. who saw Lem take the H–who is now on the run. Nothing, in other words.

  3. A pissed off ex. who knows nothing really, and doesn’t appreciate the fact that Kavanaugh lied to her about having an autistic child.

  4. A councilman that wants to help out in Aceveda, but that Kavanaugh doesn’t really trust.

This case is going nowhere for the next couple of shows is my guess. I predict we will be distracted for the next couple of weeks, and then something big will hit.

Corinne does know about the money train money, although not where it came from. And remember that Dutch was getting wise to the money train as well, for a while…he could easily help Corinne put all the pieces together.

My thoughts:

(1) Lem’s definitely getting arrested soon. Kavanaugh is going to have to think that he told Vic he’s wearing a wire. My prediction: Lem’s gonna flip after that bullshit with Shane saying “you’re gonna cover us, right?”

(2) Hot rookie cop - I’ve been trying to figure out this storyline, and I’ve got a WAG. I think she’s gonna quit and sue the force, and they’re gonna get dragged through the mud. Sexual harrassment, that sort of thing. Who knows though. That, or she’ll get somebody killed.

(3) I didn’t get the Vic/Lawyer Girl sexual tension, but I think there’s definitely gonna be some interesting plot there.

(4) Danni rocks. She’s great as the “mother hen” character. Still waiting for the fall-out after she gives birth.

(5) Re: Vic and the CI - he really did seem like he was about to kill her. I predict she’s gonna disappear, and then Kavanaugh’s gonna get desparate.

(6) I definitely see Dutch getting dragged into Kavanaugh’s investigation. He’s talked to Corinne, and then last night he was watching Vic and the Strike Team talk. I think he’s gonna start putting two and two together.

(7) Somebody mentioned that K is about to start laying into Corinne. I agree, but I don’t think she flips. I think they’ll set us up to think she’s flipped - but it will turn out to be Mara.

BTW the scenes for next week?! HOT DAMN! They’re probably gonna be using money train money to pay for their lawyer; The ST is gonna put together some deal with the Russians (probably a bogus deal just to fuck with Kavanaugh). Plus Acevedo and Kavanaugh jumping out of the van thinking Vic and the ST are gonna kill someone?! It’s gonna rock. I’m excited.

I don’t think Mara will give anything up either. If Mackey goes down, Shane is probably going with him. I don’t think IAD will cut a deal with cop killers, and Shane was too involved to be allowed to get off scot free. Mara’s whole goal is to keep Shane around to support her & the kid.

I dunno. Vic is the cop killer, not Shane. Shane had nothing to do with the decision or the action.

How good was this episode? I think it was the best so far. I hadn’t noticed how hot Hot Attorney was until last night. I mean, I knew she was hot, but I didn’t notice how hot-- you know? She is really hot!!

CI is fucked. Man, I feel sorry for her. Being at the bottom of the food chain sucks.

Dutch is going to stick his nose into the investigation. It’s his nature.

I like the way Vic is causing tension between the IAD guy and Azaveda.

Did I mention that the Attorney is hot???

No. Vic pulled the trigger, but they **both **decided to do it beforehand.

This could come up for sure, but I just don’t see Corrine giving up Vic–even after all the stuff she had to put up with. She has one priority–her kids–and knows that without Vic sending the money to her, she won’t be able to keep them in school.

All I know is that Vic has plenty of friends in low places, and he hasn’t hesitated in the past to call in some pretty nasty favors. I could easily see a scenario in which he uses some of the local thugs to take out Kavanaugh in a seemingly random drive by or what have you.

I think we might be in for one of the best seasons of The Shield yet!

Everyone here seems so interested in the long term story arcs, but no one has mentioned the baby. My stomach was doing flips during both the crime scene stuff (I couldn’t focus on it when they uncovered it), and the interrogation. I really couldn’t handle a lot of it.

Both were extremely graphic and hard to watch. I turned away when they showed the full on view of the crime scene. If you are a regular watcher of The Shield, however, nothing should suprise you.
