Wow. Vic is off the deep end further than before (it must be hard keeping him going deeper and deeper). Cavanaugh, the cleanest cop in LA, went dirty and couldn’t stand the heat. Vic should have to answer for ducking the APB, and Claudette knows that his team was in contact with him. Aceveda is still slimy, but I don’t know what his story will be this season. I hope that the two ‘unis’ get more story this year, but I’m afraid the one will be tied to the baby story, and those usually suck. Lastly, Det. ‘Due South’ is getting slimier and more cowardly by the hour.
I was a little surprised to see Cavanaugh buckling so soon - thought they’d carry that part of the story arc another episode.
Previews for next week seem to hint that Shane is starting to crack.
There’s absolutely no concrete evidence he was ducking the APB. As far as anyone can prove, he took a personal day and wasn’t paying attention to the police radio.
Kavanaugh’s admission just floored me! I definitely expected him to hang on longer and be a more tenacious foe for Vic. I wonder what will happen to him and Emolia now.
Remember when Danni and Julian used to have storylines of their own? Me too…
I know! My exact reaction (outloud): “Wow… I was not expecting that!”
I was totally surprised by Kavanaugh’s admission, also. I really thought that would run a little longer into the season. The funny thing was at that point, I felt bad for Kavanaugh. I was rooting for Vic, and now that he “won” it doesn’t feel right.
I don’t think Shane will crack, mainly because it seems like that’s what “they” want us to think. Though I wonder how Vic would take the news that Shane did it… whether he’d kill Shane or maybe blame himself for letting things get that bad. Like Kavanaugh said, Vic was the one that corrupted Lem, and maybe Vic would feel that way as well.
It really bummed me out that Forrest Whitaker’s character went out with a whimper instead of a (metaphorical) bang.
When Kavanaugh was confronting Vic with the shortcomings in his (Vic’s) character, I kept waiting for a sign that Vic felt some shame or guilt. It didn’t happen, did it? I guess you have to totally believe in what you’re doing in order to do it right.
So could we say that Vic has the courage of his convictions and Kavanaugh doesn’t?
I’m glad they didn’t draw it out but I’d like to know why. Whitaker got too busy? IMDB has six movie projects listed for Whitaker for 2007 and 2008.
I agree that it seemed abrupt, but that seemed perfect in the context of this show. It’s typically pretty good at surprising the viewers, and that’s why I like it.
I really like the emotion FW showed when he was watching Claudette with Emolia, talking about truth and how you give up part of your soul and leave a hole in your life. You could see those words hitting him like bricks, each one knocking him sideways with the knowledge of what he had done, the lines he had crossed.
Man, this is some of the best TV, IMO.
