I have no idea what the relevant law may be on this, but I find it plausible. They did all the legwork to connect all the players in a continuing criminal enterprise, presumably some with prior felony convictions, and under some statute (RICO?), a judge is allowed to issue a restraining order to prevent them from associating with each other.
I got that vibe as well, but maybe it was just a case of Cass seeing her mother getting close to the tutor, and, in her preteen mind, thinks that her mother and father should get back together.
I think that was a one-time deal. It really bugged him that he couldn’t get into that murderer’s mind, and the murderer had talked about the “thing” that happened when you kill something. He just had to know for himself…
I was wondering about this as well. I remember hearing about it when I used to live in LA, then didn’t here anything about it.
Here is a link. You can google search the keywords ‘gang’ ‘injunction’. Looks like they are still being used
No telling where Dutch might go. Remember, now he is Hungry…Like the Wolf.
I couldn’t believe at first they trotted out the car-cam just to make fun of Dutch, it had to be there for a greater purpose. I was thinking that would be the means by which Vic and the boys blackmail Acevedes with his hooker into leaving Glenn Close alone. But then they use it to nail Shane, so now there has to be some other way for Acevedes to get his.
I am so mad that I missed this episode, but you guys have done a good job catching me up to speed. Anything else I should know I missed?
I think we will see Dutch at home at some point in the future, and we’ll all see his happy healthy kitty. To those of us who know the back story, we’ll all be glad to see it alive and well.
I actually wrote a quick recap of the entire episode and e-mailed it to my dad. With apologies to the other posters who have been discussing it already, here’s a copy-and-paste of this week’s show:
Oh MY GOD!!! You are the absolute BEST! I got that the guys were on to Shane, but not that they taped him. I’m going to set my phone to remind me to watch next week. Thank you!
Hopefully, some of you who have much better memory for TV shows than me can help me piece together the Vic/Dutch conflict.
I know it starts in episode 1, where Vic is a bully to Dutch’s nerd cop. Dutch gets the hots for Danny, who Vic is boffing on the side. Dutch earns respect for bringing down a serial killer, especially after the SK had torn Dutch a new hole in interrogation.
I think the fued turned hot, however, when Dutch was looking into the Money Train, and he got a little close to the Strike Team. If I’m not mistaken, Vic worked Aceveda against Dutch in that situation.
Did I miss any major or minor logs that have been thrown onto their fire throughout the first three seasons?
They won’t kill off Shane this season. The little girl’s body will be found (by Vic) and he will bury her in some field to save Shane’s ass - again.
The amazing thing about this show is that I am worn out watching and look to realize it is only half way through the hour! This show moves like few others have ever done. Certainly the fastest paced hour on television and a script always full of surprises.
Glenn Close has already got a grip on her role. She is nobody’s fool and I like that she is as fast thinking on her feet as Vic, and I think even Vic is starting to realize it isn’t going to be easy to pull one over on her.
The conflict between the two isn’t neccesarily linked to any specific events, Vic just loves to make Dutch look like a fool–and he makes himself an easy target.
When Dutch does something to Vic in the same way, Vic gets incredibly pissed–and begins to hate Dutch more and more.
I think it has been mostly junior high bully stuff up until now, but when Vic finds out that Dutch asked his ex out to dinner…
Dutch better hope he’s not standing next to a hot oven!
Sorry, I should have quoted DOdds post #50 above.
Wasn’t there an episode last year in which Dutch had lost a lap top computer that may or may not have had some pictures on it that it shouldn’t have? Dutch’s excuse was that he was looking into busting an illegal internet porn ring? Did anything ever come of that?
And thanks for clearing up the question of how Antwon knew about the girl. Mrs. nrd and I had the same question when we watched this week.
I remember that. Dutch had been investigating kiddie-porn rings on his own time, and turned in a previously-misplaced laptop that he warned everyone was full of child pornography he had turned up in the investigation. I thought for sure that would become a plot point, but it was never mentioned again.
I’m guessing with all of the above plot points mentioned that have not turned into main story lines, that the writers are either wanting us to be thrown off the path, or simply like to change direction a lot.
Either way, I kinda like the fact that they don’t answer every question. I love it when I am reading a book and the author allows me to infer some of the story for myself, and I can do that when watching this show as well.
While I’d like to give the writers the benefit of a doubt, they might simply have planned a storyline, laid the groundwork (laptop), didn’t like it (or perhaps the producer or director didn’t) and let it drop.
I think those side plots with Dutch are just part of revealing his character. He’s obsessed with getting into the mind of the people he tries to catch. Choking the cat and looking at kiddie porn is just Dutch trying to understand the bad guys. He wanted to know what that killer felt when killing someone, so he choked the cat to death. He wanted to find out what a rapist who goes after children would be excited about, so he looked at some kiddie porn. He thinks he’ll be a better detective that way.
A very interesting theory indeed. I could definitely see Dutch going this route. Does this mean he will eventually be willing to kill someone himself? Is he that addicted to the mind of a killer? He fits the typical serial killer profile. Hmmm…
I would agree with RancidYakButterTeaParty. Very interesting.
Especially when you considered that he got shut down by that serial killer. Dutch was trying to empathize with him. The killer looked into his soul and saw that Dutch didn’t know what he was talking about. Sure he was book learned, but it’s kind of like a virgin reading about sex. You can read every book in the world about, but unless you’ve tried it you wont truly understand.
