Hmm, this documentary thing is interesting, but WTF Homer’s a millionaire? Cat Lady’s backstory was funny
.
[Comic Book Guy]Best! Episode! Lately![/CBG]
I really liked this one. The concept was pretty well-suited to the show and most of the jokes were good. My one issue here is that they did two “liar” episodes in a row. The Sea Captain/Disco Stu fakeout was brilliant.
I liked this episode. I knew who Elanor was going to end up as, since her name was revealed in a past episode. But the young sea captain joke was priceless. Lenny’s mediocrity was funny (reminds me of me), and I liked Moe’s thing about Pontiff No Return (which is as funny a pun title as the other one seen in the episode about a blind man who climbs Mount Everest, Ain’t No Mountain) and his fetish about a shoe insert ad. “That’s what I’ve been writing creepy letters to?” The Seven Up!-style format allowed for some funny gags, and I though the backstories of Chief Wiggum and Frink were especially funny. The ending was kind of weak, though. It should have ended on a gag. It reminds me of the syndicated version of “Hungry Hungry Homer,” which ends with happy Homer and cuts out the whole joke about the evil mayor of Albuquerque. Doesn’t really leave you amused.
The movie trailer was good too. Some good solid jokes- especially the one where Flanders points out which states border Springfield.
Yeah, that made me very happy.
I’ll let my geekery show for a minute and ask two questions: didn’t they show a young Edna Krabappel running through the halls of the high school? She moved to Springfield later in life. And also, did they just say Homer and Marge (and everyone else) is 32? Because it’s been ‘fact’ for about 15 years that he’s 39.
Yes to the Edna, no to the age. Marge said something about them having problems ever since they let him into their lives “32 years ago,” which, if they first filmed Homer when he was 8, makes him 40.
Aright, that works. I thought I got something wrong there.
The idea of Homer doing a Play-Doh version of Eqqus is hysterical, especially with the controversial play in the news again thanks to one young British actor.
Sorry for repeating a question I already asked in another thread started by alphaboi867, but perhaps you didn’t see the question. Anyhow, why do you put the dates in the thread titles as YY/MM/DD? I’ve never seen anyone else do it this way.
I can’t order time broken up. Either the units must go from smallest to biggest (DD/MM/YY like the rest of the world) or from biggest to smallest. “Medium, smallest, biggest” is too weird.
It would be less confusing if you used the DD/MM/YY format, as that’s how it’s done in many countries, including the UK. You might also use the format 18 Feb 2007, as that removes any confusion about the day or month.
“Shutterbuggery.” Heh.
Pretty good episode. Every episode I’ve seen this year has been pretty good but I’ve missed 1 or 2.
I didn’t like that “release the hounds” was already an old gag and they are using it in the movie and in tonight’s episode. Too much.
It is annoying, as you’ve been told already.
I’m sorry you suffer from that obviously very specific, very rare disability. Is there a charity accepting donations?
No, it was so well used in this episode.
“The hounds are still at the winter house.”
“Then go get them with the Du-ran-go.”
And the rest of that little dialogue about the dog not liking the front seat… that was excellent.
Homer using the dog’s name as they were being chased from the house - priceless.
I really liked this episode. I’m looking forward to the movie.
As to Edna Krabbapple, it’s plausible that she was raised in Springfield, went away to college, and moved back to her hometown after finishing school.

Better yet, those who want to argue date formats, set up a new thread in either the Pit or Great Debates.
Meanwhile, I have no problem reading 07/02/18 as July 18, 2002.
I usually don’t like new episodes, but this one was pretty good- flashback or history episodes usually are. Several good lines, but the best one was from the 6:30 repeat episode, when Bart is telling Milhouse about catching Marge and Homer in the act: “belive me Bart, it’s much better to catch both of them, instead of just one”
Probably the most amusing episode of late, but as always that’s not saying much. While I realize that being annoyed by changes in continuity on The Simpsons is kind of absurd, I was annoyed by the changes in continuity in this episode. Marge suddenly had a job workign as a portrait photographer? Was that before or after she was a roller skating carhop? And Professor Frink’s never having touched a woman is going to come as a surprise to his son.
I thought it was great. My wife and I got to talk a lot about the real-life documentary. Also, while she hates The FCC Song, she loves the narrator of this episode!
My favorite part: when Marge says how Homer’s good at “pitchin’ woo.” What a couple of Okies.
The thing that bothered me: Moe as a kid. I thought in the Immigration Episode (3F20), Homer outed him as “Moemar,” and then Moe was seen in disguise taking the citizenship test. Meh?
It was revealed in another episode that his first name is Mordecai (Flaming Homer episode)
And in another epsiode, Moe’s inner child asks “Whya you no speaka wit your accent no morea?” To which Moe responds “Momma mia”
