Oh my goodness- that’d be a perfect chance to here the “Jack yelling trivial things” so many of us have dreamed about. “Marge, I need mayonnaise for this hot dog- NOW! Do it or millions of people will die!”
Wow, I thought that episode sucked. I didn’t even chuckle once. I ‘got’ the helicopter gag in the first few seconds - after that it was just tedious. Note to writers: Those kind of throwaway gags work better in very small doses. Like Homer matching rotation with a potato chip, or a computer saying, “What are you doing, Homer?” in a HAL 9000 voice. Take it too far, and it just looks like your retreading old gags.
The military stuff was annoyiing - there’s a fine line between poking good fun at something, and attempting to score political points, and I thought they crossed it. It was especially unfunny being aired on a weekend when we’re supposed to be remembering our war veterans.
But that would have been okay by me as well, had it actually been funny. I’ll overlook a lot in the service of comedy. But this was just dull.
I finally got around to watching last week’s Treehouse of Horror, and it sucked too.
And it’s not just me. My 9 year old daughter is a HUGE Simpson’s fan. I never saw her even smile during either of the last two episodes we watched. At the end of the TofH episode, she turned to me and said, “That wasn’t funny at all.”
I hope all the good writers are working on the movie, so there’s a chance we’ll see some good Simpsons humor again soon.
