Grandpa Simpson and Selma? The man’s working his way through the entire Bouvier family.
Oh, you’re right, I forgot about his former romance with Mrs. Bouvier! I wonder if she’ll make an appearance? Love triangle, anyone?
A dragon!! WTF!? :dubious:
According to the sign at the wedding, Selma’s previous marriages have included Sideshow Bob (“Black Widower”), Lionel Hutz (unseen- implied in “The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons”), Troy McClure (“A Fish Called Selma”), Disco Stu (“There’s Something About Marrying”), and a second marriage to Sideshow Bob (also unseen). Since we don’t know Disco Stu’s last name, it’s hard to tell what her full name would be, but it would be at least Selma Bouvier Terwilliger Hutz McClure [???] Terwilliger Simpson.
The cardboard boxes come from ASS- American Shipping Services (not affiliated with the human ass).
Homer’s alter ego is Estaban de la Sexface (which, according to Homer, translates to “Stephen of the Sexface.”)
“And what company are these cardboard boxes for?”
“The name of the company is, um…”
[notices Santa’s Little Helper eating out of a trash can marked “General Industries”]
“Dog, Inc.”
“Who knew people in brown shirts would cause so much trouble?”
Yes, with all the cardboard/office weapons, the dragon was particularly odd.

I heard the plot for this one and thought “oh shit.” But I really liked it. The cardboard castle sequence was great, there were a bunch of good visuals and lines [“that’s the first time anyone’s referred to me by putting an adjective in front of ‘thing’”], and they did a good job with the relationship - for once, Grampa couldn’t relate to the world because of something other than senility, not that I mind the senility jokes. This really is the best season in a while, and they’re doing a good job of keeping the show current while still having it be the Simpsons.
I’m still laughing over that joke! The misdirection gags have always been my favorite.
My DVR cut off right after Grandpa put the videocassette in the microwave. (Stupid Nascar! shakes fist) Can someone write how the storyline ended?
What movie is referenced by the dragon?
Lord of the Rings. The Witch King rode a dragon that looked just like that. (Only black, IIRC.)
That whole scene with the fort was a take off of the battle of Helm’s Deep from “The Two Towers.” They even used the same music.
I thought the box fort subplot was probably the worst subplot in the history of the show. Oh for the days of Mr Sparkle, and Homer’s sweet sweet sugar subplots.
Seemed a bit more like the Battle of Minas Tirith to me (Fell Beast and all) from “The Return of the King.” I tried to see in the final credits if they acknowledged Howard Shore’s score from LOTR - you’re right, they were using several music cues directly lifted from the movie.
They’ve implied he uses Stu as a last name, although it’s obviously not his real last name. And if you wanted to get really technical about it, I’m sure Selma wouldn’t put Terwilliger in her last name twice. But the re-marriage to Bob joke cracked me up.
Not the first time we’ve seen dragons on the show, actually. Three of them showed up in Goo Goo Gai Pan, where Selma adopts Ling.
When, why, and how did Selma adopt Ling? I missed that episode.
And I personally loved the box fort bit. Cleverest thing the Simpsons ever did since… Dark Stanley.
I’m sure that some of that was lifted directly from LOTR (TTT and ROTK), but I think it borrowed from other movies as well. The dragon seemed a bit wonky, but the payoff came in the scene where Bart and Lisa melted the fort. There was a camera pullout, and we saw the dead dragon, and the LOTR music came back. Brilliant. Made me LOL.
That was two years ago. She did it because she went through menopause and realized she wanted a child. Turns out Jub-Jub wasn’t enough, because he can’t provide for her - just eat her when she’s dead.
It was the episode where the entire Simpson went to China, Homer pretended to be Selma’s husband, and Lucy Liu had a cameo.
The whole episode was pretty good. I loved the dragon, and the best part about it was that no one commented on it at all. There it was. Later, there it was, dead. Not worth mentioning.
Mine too. There was a another funny one with Homer Flintstoning the car.
I cracked up at the exploding pigeons after the wedding.
