The Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad 2010 Xmas Specials (open spoilers)

Well the Simpsons is a New Year’s Eve ep, but the other two are Chrismas eps. Which was best (or least bad)?

Actually, last week’s Simpsons episode was their Christmas show, but nobody made a thread last week. “The Fight Before Christmas” consisted of four mini episodes, three of which were various dreams by Simpsons members. The fourth was a live action segment which featured puppets of the Simpsons (or “Fluppets”) and included a live action appearance by Katy Perry as Moe’s girlfriend.

I thought the Fluppet segment was the best, particularly Abe and Jasper in a box seat spoofing Statler and Waldorf.

Burns: Last night I had a visit from three spirits.
Abe (in an aside to Jasper): What this show needs is a visit from three new writers!

Family Guy and American Dad were both pretty dark this week, does anybody else think?

Family Guy was the best it had been in ages! Yeah it was dark but it had great humour to go with it.

My favourite part was when things just went from bad to worse as soon as Stewie and Brian crash landed the sleigh, the part where Brian was just throwing the presents under the tree really really cracked me up, hadn’t laughed that hard at Family Guy for that long in…ever, I think?

Also nice touch with the Christmas elves hanging themselves in the musical number, oh and Stewie just sawing that elf’s arm off then waving him goodbye with it!

Bloody brilliant.

The CGI at then end though, wasn’t too keen on, when they panned out, isn’t there suppposed to be a city in the background of the Griffin home?

Funniest Simpsons of the season, I think. I found didn’t mind what they did with Fat Tony, but I didn’t like the Armand Tamzarian/Snowball V ending. They’ve done that to death already.

Yeah, Family Guy was better than usual, but the prize still goes to American Dad.

I’m not a watcher of American Dad but I liked it a lot.

The Simpsons was horribly boring for me.

My favorite of the night was Family Guy. Although it was a bit uneven I thought Brian and Quagmire scene was hilarious. Getting to the North Pole was kinda meh, except for when they show that despite his evil geniusness, Stewie is still a baby.

Once they got to the North Pole it was good until the end. Santa’s song was really dark but surprisingly catchy.

“Yay! New Christmas tradition!”

I liked how Haley, no matter how liberal and tree hugging she is, was totally familiar with a rifle, and emotionlessly and efficiently dispatched the two elves after they crashed. As much as she protests, she’s Stan’s daughter.

Fat Tony is dead. Long live [del]Fit[/del] [del]Fat Fit[/del] Fat Tony!

A heart attack seems like such a mundane way to die. Joe Mantegna was probably against the idea of killing off Fat Tony permanently as it is one of his favorite roles. In fact, he is so insistent that no one else play Fat Tony that he told the producers he is available any time to do the voice, even if he has only one line. The ending was probably designed so that Mantegna could continue to contribute voice work to the Simpsons.

Surprisingly, I really liked the FG opening musical number. I usually despise their time-wasting musical numbers. But yesterday’s was great, like “Bag-O-Weed.”

Joe

[I read your post in a Fat Tony voice and it worked pretty well.] I’m pretty sure they had this ending in mind when they wrote the episode and I doubt they changed it for him. They’ve done this type of ending enough times in the past, after all. I actually would have preferred it if they’d just left us with Fit Tony as the new Springfield mob boss. I don’t care if they kill off a character of 20 years’ standing and leave us with a replacement who is basically the same character. I do care if they make that move and then pretend nothing happened.

I didn’t enjoy Family Guy at all, took me 2 sessions to get through it too. Bad story, hardly any funny bits at all. Very disjointed.

American Dad was…interesting. It turns into a sci-fi/action show pretty often.

Simpsons was meh. American Dad, which I don’t usually enjoy all that much was fantastic. Family Guy for some reason didn’t record.

I haven’t been watching Family Guy this season, but I did watch the Christmas ep. Why does Quagmire hate Brian?

That goes back to last season.

He hates him because he’s a hypocritical douchebag. (Brian, that is. Though Quagmire is, too.)

Didn’t watch any of the others, so I didn’t vote in the poll, but OMG the Family Guy was fucked up even by Family Guy standards. Great episode, though–good songs, interesting plot, lots of laughs, and even more “Oh no they d’int!” The part with Brian and Quagmire waiting in line for Santa was just awesomely awful.

This is why:

ha that was great. thanks for the link.

Quagmire’s not a hypocrite at all.
