The Simpsons in Mexico

I read in the newspaper this morning that the actors who provide the voices for the Spanish language version are on strike as the result of a union dispute. It got me wondering how the Bumblebee man is portrayed in Mexico…

Anyone know? Bueller? Bueller?

HA! . This could be a fantastic thread of funny possiblities, but don’t let the real answer stop you: Someone. I don’t know who, though. The question was answered at “The No Homers Club” Ignore the fact that their is a member named Homer, for it refers to the plural, not the singular.

Yes it would. But there are reasons for the dubbing:
-Some people figure “it’s a cartoon, so it’s for kids, kids can’t read, we have to dub it”.
-Some countries have laws requiring the (open, not cable) TV programming to be in Spanish.

Of course, the English version can always be heard on the SAP channel of Canal Fox. That’s what I do.

That’s the #1 question I get about the Spanish version from people who never heard it. Yes, the bumblebee man is translated into Spanish, someone does the voice and the lines sometimes change, even when it’s not necessary (in 22 Short Films About Springfield the Spanish is awful and wouldn’t be right not to re-translate it).
Of course, a big part of the joke is lost, as the guy talks in the same language as everybody else.

Remember- its ok as long as there is only one Homer there. Its a No Homers club…

The actors who provides the voice in the translation are in an strike for union trouble. I heard that they were going to be replaced.
And that would be a big problem, you see Homer Simpson has a voice in spanish, and replacing that voice changes the character, (IMHO The simpsons in spanish is much better than in the original, the voices personification are great: Lisa, “the know it all” girl, Burns, simply evil, Homer somewhat dumb, etc).
The Simpsons wouldn’t be the same with different voice actors.
Incidentally, in Argentina, every foreign film is subtitle, (voice translation are only made in open air channels and kid movies), also most of the series. In Spain, by law, every foreign fim or series must be fully translated, teh result is horrible.
