The Simpsons: Tapped Out

I simply don’t understand how I am so far behind in gift cards.

I have only collected 64k gift cards. Now, i didn’t start out with 100 friends, but that was only for a few days until i hit that magic number. I am still getting only 5 spins a day maximum, whereas some of you are getting 7-9 spins.

Is there another way to get gift cards that I’m missing here?

Thanks

Oh, and ps, i just accidentally hit my crop icon, meaning i have to wait another 24 hours to get my moonshine crop back up. Fuuuuuuck, this game is annoying. I bumped it chasing down that stupid sideshow bob. Wasn’t even paying attention to what I was tapping until “TOO LATE”

Oh, and the YES Man is here.

I’ve been mining gift cards on part 18 of the Christmas main quest with 30 characters or so, giving me an extra spin every 8 hours.

I’m sorry, but what does this mean?

I don’t even know if I have hit the part 18 of the christmas quest. Can you help explain that to me?

(I’m not completely obsessed with clearing my stupid wheel, but yeah, i want as many spins as i can get. I want this thing to fall, and seeing as some of you have 30 to 40 thousand more cards than I do tells me I’m doing something wrong!

Thats 30-40 extra spins. If you gave me a bucket of 40 spins right now, and I didn’t get the remaining prizes on my wheel, I would toss this game. I’m actually amazed I have hit as many things as I have with the small number of spins i have had.

That still doesn’t make me happy, because I’ll never get those spins. But I guess it could be worse.

Finally got the Ice God and cleared the wheel. I can stop mining the gift cards now and finish off the main quest line.

You’re looking for the “Too Much of a Good Thing Part 18” quest, as I’ve mentioned up thread:

I’m still only getting one spin per day - I only have about 35 friends, so I’m sitting around 27,000 tickets so I don’t even have all the ticket rewards yet (just got the plow today).

But I won’t complain too much. Most of my quest lines (Mr. Plow, Santa Flanders, the main Christmas quests) are stalled because they require buildings I don’t have yet, i.e. Moe’s bar and the church. Still having fun though - building Android’s Dungeon as we speak.

Now that I’m done, I’ll only be going to other towns once very few days to drop off gifts. Anyway, my overall thoughts on Xmas are:

  1. The Krusty Wheel sucked. Here is why: Make pie slices on the wheel proportionate size to your odds to win the prize, or at least scale them down to really small for the super rare items. The main frustration isn’t getting $1000 over and over, it’s looking at a equally divided pie chart and getting the same result. It was massively annoying.

  2. It was really cool and I like the gift card idea. 30,000 was very easy for me and I’m glad about that.

  3. Gifts need a change and should work like this. Either:

  • Give us more gifts to pass out per day. Like 250 or so.

OR

  • Let us dump as many gifts on any neighbor as we won. Hey, I only earned 50-70 a day, anyway. Let me help a guy out by giving all of mine to him.

Anyway, it’s nice to be done and we should be quieter from January 7 - Valentines day.

Thanks. I think I blew this a long time ago by making Homer and Lisa complete the 24 hour tasks.

Was this the task where everyone was running around searching for Simpsons?

Yes.

I’d be happy if they changed the $1000 and 50 gift cards to, say, $10,000 and 500 gift cards. All I really need is the jacket and I’m getting sick of getting $1000. I mean, it’s fine when I get my free coin each day, but on my Nexus which takes about an hour to get through all my friends, it’s becoming less and less worth it.

IMO, this was the same problem they had with the eggs. Once a person had all the individual prizes there was really no incentive to go to their friend’s towns. Or there was, but it was something really small. As I recall, the group total slowed down as we got towards the end and people stopped visiting other towns.
I think they’re using the wheel to attempt to mitigate that, but it’s hard when you have long time players essentially just getting $2000 a day from it (someone that’s been playing for a few weeks might need that $2000 a lot more then someone that’s been playing for a few months).
Maybe if they gave you the greater of $1000 or a percentage. By my calculations someone with 6.5m would get 6500 if they gave you .1%. Id be happier to go through all the towns for 6500 then for 1000.

I know I said $10,000, but as I thought about it, I don’t think someone that’s only been playing for a few weeks (and has never had more then a few thousand) should be able to rack up that much money that quickly.

I think the wheel was a good idea but bad execution.

When you have a wheel that gives the impression that each item on the wheel has an equal chance of landing, but in reality the wheel is fixed and weighted, then what’s the point of spinning it? You can’t really manipulate the spin. The wheel decides on where it is going to stop based on the odds of the prizes that are left on the wheel.

I know some people have cleared the wheel, but I’m curious as to how many spins that took to do. I have had at least 30-40 less spins than some of the other folks out here, and I know there are people that have had less than me. So, is it just a matter of time before I clear the wheel, assuming i accumulate the proper number of spins, or do. I have a real shot at clearing the wheel even if I don’t get around 95-100k gift cards?

It would also be nice if they changed the gift cards and cash layouts on the wheel to be something a bit more rewarding.

I am not sure what the proper amounts would be, but say 250 or 500 cards, or maybe a free spin would be good. 50 cards does nothing. $1000 is also small potatoes considering the effort involved in gathering the cards to get that one spin.

$2500 would be a better amount, I think.

But for this year, it is what it is, and it isn’t going to be changed.

I am looking forward to the 8th, though.

…and they said it couldn’t be done.

Thanks, Mahaloth.

You guys all have such great cities.

What happens to the holiday-themed swag after the season is over?

The stuff that automatically changed over will change back, things you paid for that are giving up gift cards, will give away cash/XP.

Those snake rocks and snake logs weren’t a bad investment. They’re paying off handsomely.

I hit the jackpot the day before yesterday. When you only have $30,000 banked, it’s a pretty nice reward!

One other thing - I was working my way through the Yes Man quests and finished the one where he went to see the doctor (I think). Then during the follow-up dialogue, my game crashed. When I came back I had 2 spin coins. Did he give me those as a reward for the quest or did I somehow get those from presents/gift bags without noticing? (Spins got me $1000 and 50 cards :frowning: )

I have Yeeeees Man running around in shame, which comes after the doctor, and have definitely not received any spin tokens from him.

Weird. It would be incredibly unlikely to get 2 coins from presents at the same time, since I have only received one that way since the beginning of the event. In any case, when I went back a little while ago he had the ‘running away in shame’ job so that’s what he’s doing now.

And finally I got the prompt to build the church. I may spend some precious donuts on it so I don’t have to wait 24 hours to continue the Mr. Plow and Too Much of a Good Thing chains. I’m way too impatient.

I had to delete a few friends because my game would crash when I visited their towns. I don’t think they were from here, but if I’m wrong and you were, I’m sorry. It crashed last night, gave it overnight, and still crashed this morning. All of my other friends are fine.

I can’t imagine getting 2 spins like that, one maybe, but even that seems unlikely. But 2? I’d be amazed. That actually would make the crashes worthwhile. Mine crashes almost every time i try to go to krustyland the fiirst time.

But, in Tapped Out fashion, the two spins gave you nothing worthwhile anyway.
I thought i had the yeti today, the wheel was coming around at a good speed, and I said “finally!” And then, the wheel put the brakes on and it stuck on the pin, giving me the whopping $1000. What an annoying thing that wheel!

I now have two christmas houses for Skinner, even though I don’t have Skinner’s house yet. It hasn’t come ip on a quest, but i have two christmas light packages in inventory.

EA has really screwed the pooch with this wheel. I am beginning to hate the wheel and everyone that wrote code to control it.
One strange thing tonight, though. I hit gift cards on the wheel (twice, dammit) and received 150 cards, and then 275. Maybe someone from EA read my suggestions from yesterday! Anyone else get higher gift card payoffs?

The wheel would be less annoying if the size of the spaces corresponded to the odds of hitting them, instead of all being equal size. The illusion that you’re as likely to hit the building as your are to get $1000 makes it incredibly frustrating. But if the building slot was teeny-tiny you would have lower expectations.
