Not even a year. I started last June, right around the time the Stonecutters started, and I just got Janey (and, over in Krustyland, the Tooth Chipper).
It may depend on how many friends you have - I visit all of them 6 times a week, and have all of my characters (except Krusty, who does a 12 as it gets the 12 for Mr. Teeny as well) do 24-hour tasks when I won’t be home in the mornings, and 8s followed by 12s (which pays more overall) when I will be.
It looks like I’m at the point of “buy all of the land you can while waiting for the next level to start.”
It looks like level 49 is here. Something to save your money for: the D’Amico Summer Home that costs $1,092,000, takes 24 hours to build and comes with a new character. And more land has been released.
I haven’t been as fast as I could be. I’ve gone through periods where I devote myself entirely to the seasonal tasks at hand, and let the level-up tasks slide.
And, as it turns out, I was only about halfway (in terms of XP) to getting to Level 49, so by the time I get there, I’ll probably have more than enough money.
Also, of course right after I say, “I’ve never gotten two 50s at Sideshow You”, it happens.
I don’t necessarily mind we haven’t gotten a V-day update, but I REALLY don’t want one to show up now. I am tired of events started right before a holiday and continuing for weeks after. I don’t put my Christmas decorations away on Dec 26, but they’re gone by the first week of January. I don’t want to be doing Valentines in March.
Some people are speculating (no real info to back it up, pure speculation) that maybe because its the 3rd anniversary of TSTO that maybe they’re gearing up for a big event. Or maybe Presidents’ Day (which is also approaching rapidly). Or A Big Thing for level 50.
Personally, I think there’s nothing really in the pipeline. Oh well.
I thought the “thing” nowadays was special updates based on that week’s upcoming new episode, which probably means either they add “Uber Marge” or “Janitor Moe” as a skin.
Then again, they didn’t do anything for the Springfield Anthem/Homer Embraces His Fatness episode, did they?
Was there much of a Valentine’s Day promotion last year? If there was, I wouldn’t be surprised if they dust off Gil to sell some of last year’s items.
God that Wheel sucked. And then they went back to it again. I think they learned their lesson though.
I’m going to ass-u-me that there’s something coming. It has to be too late for Valentines (which is OK by me) but EA wants our money so they’ve got to put more content out there.

The March 8 episode is going to deal with casino gambling - specifically, card counting in blackjack.
I wonder if some sort of casino is going to be part of Level 50. After all, they do have a dog track where you can place bets.
Then again, it would probably end up being a premium building with the only gambling being tasks for the characters (e.g. "Homer - Gamble - 4 hours; Marge - Gamble Too Much - 1 day 12 hours).
I don’t see why it can’t be the Monty Burns Casino. I’m hoping for lots of references to “$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)”. And to reference a different Matt Groening property, if they have some sort of Gamblor reference they can shut up and take my money.
So a small Vday update today. There are hints that bigger things are coming, even though there isn’t A Big Event like previous Vdays. Most of the items are returning things, so it’s kind of dull for longterm players, but the hint of things to come once you finish the small questline is intriguing
