The Simpsons: Tapped Out

Yes, what I mean is that it’s a waste of time to have the characters on a one hour job if you’re going to be away (or asleep) for 8 hours. Over time you’ll learn the most optimal timing for your schedule. For example, I put them on an 8 hour job at 10pm, and 8 or 12 hour job when I go to work (depending on when I get off of work) and 1 hour jobs between getting off of work and 10pm. On weekends I keep them on the shortest jobs I can depending on what I have going on. If I have to go run errands for a few hours, I’ll put them on two hour jobs, if I’m going to be gone for longer then that, 4 hour jobs etc.

Of course there’s going to be many, many times when you’re killing yourself to save up $50,000 to buy something and you realize you forgot to reset their jobs and they’ve essentially been doing nothing all day long. It’s less of a big deal as you’ve been playing longer, but at the beginning it sucks when you get home from work and see that everyone is still doing their jobs from last night.

The cost of buying land became prohibitively expensive so I scaled back my grinding strategy with blue houses. I’ve stopped after 128, which will yield around $20,000 every 8 hours. That should let me carry on with the game buying and building whatever I need while continually increasing my cash reserves in case I want to buy something stupid like a stairway to nowhere.

Thanks for the tip on touching homer 10 times. How did you figure that out?

Unfortunately, i’ll have to wait for a few more hours because i sent homer to watch a monkey trauma center marathon.

I also have had a hard time getting sideshow bob to register when I touch him. It takes me forever to hit him to get the xp’s and money.

This cracks me up. I’m actually trying to score more donuts without paying… Why? :D. I am so easily amused.

Here it is.

I added on a bunch of blue houses myself a while ago. I originally didn’t want to overdo the houses, but you gots to have the money if you want the escalators and giant fake diamonds. The blue houses are the best deal, imo, and I can tap them twice a day, three times if I’m lucky. White has a better payout, but I end up missing collecting a day here or there and it throws off the routine.

I hope you guys don’t mind a relative lurker adding you when I get a few minutes.

These screen shots were interesting.

I love how people have crammed every possible “inch” of space with a house, or whatever. Just rows and rows of houses to yield cash and xp’s I guess. People have really put a lot of thought into this.

If you’d like to add yourself to our running list of usernames, StinkFishPot, we can help you garner a few extra bucks and XP pnts.

Hi Folly. I accepted your request. waves hello

Cool! You guys rock.
Everyone has such large and developed Springfields though.

I started last December, after many, many others were fully-developed. But I pretty much caught up within a couple of months (without spending donuts). Once you get a dozen characters, the money starts building up and you can buy things faster and faster.

I will do this, thank you! First, i have to figure out how.

Currently, I am playing anonymously, so do I have to start over if I give myself a name?

Also, I have stumbled onto a few more things I’d like answers to.

  1. Is there an easy way to collect all of the money and XP’s without having to tap every little icon hovering over a person or house? I can do this right now, but i can see how this would become tiresome if you have a large town.

2). Has anyone tried the money/donut hack that is out there? Apparently, there is a program that you can run that permits you to add as much money or donuts as you want. That would be nice, but I have no idea if it works or if it gums up your iPad.

3). Is there any easy way (or a way to do it without spending donuts) to increase the percentage on your rewards? I’ve noticed a number of buildings or whatever that you have to buy with donuts will add some percentage increase to each reward, so instead of getting 1 XP, each time income tax is rewarded, you get 4 or 5 or whatever?

  1. how do I stop the game to add a user name so I can join the SDMB group? And can I sign up everyone that i’ve seen in the list in this thread, or do I need to send each if you a note? And if you don’t Ok it, i wont be able to see your Springfield or get any points money or donuts?

5). Is there a good place to read on-line about this game that gives tips and cheats and hacks? (I’m not above cheating!). I’ve done some googling, and every site that claims to be a cheat and tip site has nothing but the basic stuff that I already know. Which isn’t much.
Sorry if these questions have already been answered somewhere in this behemoth thread.

Thanks, all!

Just ignore them, they’ll collect on their own after a few seconds.

I haven’t done it and wouldn’t, personally. Most of them, once you did down involve you giving your username and password to someone else. I’m sure some are legit but some will probably involve your Orgin account getting hacked. I think, but I could be wrong, that they actually hack into the file and adjust something, but I’m not sure. I know it sucks now, but you’ll get there and after a while you won’t ‘need’ the money anymore.

Those buildings are one way, but the way to do it without spending money is to increase your star rating. Look at those stars at the bottom, click on them and it’ll tell you how to get more. Of course, with those you can only get up to 5%. By buying things you can get up much, much higher. I’m at 54%, I’ve seen people get up well over 200%. I have no idea if there’s a ceiling.

Click on Bart and Milhouse at the bottom and it’ll take you to another page, from there you’ll click on (I think) them again with a little plus sign and you’ll be able to add us.

I like TSTOTips.com just to see general day to day stuff. If there’s nothing new going on, they’ll go over something old, for example, a few weeks ago they did a big post about 3D buildings that was interesting.
I like simpsonswiki.com for walkthroughs on longs quests. It makes it easier to plan out your day. Knowing that when Homer gets done with this job in 3 hours that you’ll need Milhouse next is nice because you won’t put Milhouse on an 8 hour job. You can put him on a 2 or 4 hour job.
I, however, don’t like searching that site and usually get right to the walkthrough I want from the google results.

Just to clarify, you do have to tap the initial thumbs up/handshake/dollar icon about each house/person (the game is called Tapped Out after all). But when you do that and money/XP pops out, you don’t have to click those.

This is what i thought, and have figured out that I only need to tap the original icon. However, I’ve seen some screen shots of Springfields that others have created, and it would take a significant amount of time to just hit those initial icons. If that’s the only way, that’s fine. Right now, it’s not a big burden. However, I can see it growing into a major pain if I stick to this game.
Also, and this is something that just occurred to me, but is there an end to this? I mean, can you add property and houses forever? Or does Springfield have a boundary?

Yes, that’s what I meant.

Also, something else to clarify

What I meant is:
A)Some people will hack (in a bad way) into your account and steal information.
B)My understanding as to how this works as they’ll they’ll load your account onto their device then hack (in a ‘good’ way) into the file and make some adjustments so it works differently. Either giving you millions of dollars or making money/donuts/XP accumulate differently.

Eitherway, I wouldn’t bother, after you’ve been playing for a few months you won’t need it anymore. If you look back a few months you’ll see players (like me) barely having any money at all. I mean, I had been playing for a few months and typically had less then a thousand dollars with hundreds of thousands of dollars of stuff scheduled to be built. I didn’t know what I was going to do. Everyone told me to just keep on playing and that it would work itself out. Now I’m sitting on a 5 million dollar reserve. I just (like a day ago) bought a $360k building as soon as I could and recovered the money before it was fully built 36 hours later. You’ll get there, we all did, but it takes a few months.

I’ve seen at least one person quit (here) because he felt like he always had to go back on check on his town so he stopped playing because it was almost becoming a problem. That was, as I recall, during Whacking Day.

There are boundaries on both how much property you can buy and how many things you can put on it. IIRC you can only have 3000 ‘things’ on your land. Most people only hit that limit if they use a lot of ‘little’ things like bushes and trees. Actually, most people will never hit that to begin with. If you physically run out of space, that would be a good time to start converting multiple houses into single ‘bigger’ ones. For example changing over 10 brown houses into one purple house. If you’ve physically can’t fit any more buildings on your property, you can probably do without things that give you a few dollars every few seconds.
It’ll probably reduce your stress level too.

Thanks for the info. I doubt i will get stressed out over this, as I’ve had it on my iPad for months now, and only started playing it a few days ago. As i mentioned, i really didn’t pay much attention to the initial demo, and wasn’t interested until I read a couple of pages of this thread, when I realized how long this thread was, I thought "hey, i wonder what I’m missing. So far, i have played this for 3 straight days, and I will play at least two more to see what i get for the mystery box prize.

The one thing that i can see getting frustrated with is the donut thing. I don’t mind things taking time, but I don’t want to be looking at “impossible without shelling out a hundred bucks for donuts” either.

If there is a legitimate, easier way to accumulate donuts in the course of playing the game, then i’m fine with limping along as i am.

There are just some major advantages to having a lot of donuts to spend. I don’t want to accumulate them to just accumulate them. I want to have them to buy things like buildings that can be only purchased with donuts.

I started playing in August. I’m totally hooked. It really is life-ruiningly fun.

I haven’t spent any real money, but I’ve collected 190 donuts. While I’m level 37 in xp, I just unlocked Lou and Eddie today, Wolfcastle yesterday, Fat Tony last week, Ralph after Halloween. So level-wise, I’m not as high as it seems. I level-maxed during Halloween, when I had only been playing for 2 months.

I grind, so that’s how I got so many donuts. I don’t really house farm. I mean, I have multiples of some of them, but not dozens and dozens. As I read on another forum, it’s more of a house garden than a house farm. I grinded out goo like I was a zombie myself. I got over 40k goo, so that ended up being a LOT of donuts. I won a couple in Krustyland Sideshow You too. Now it’s just hitting the new XP goal. I make sure I have 100k banked at all times so I can buy the three donuts if I don’t pick the right box.

I bought the ray gun/Kodos with the majority of my donuts. While there are other things I really would love, I’ve loved those two since their first appearance on the show. I’m sort of saving up for Bumblebee Man so I can open up some Channel Six/Ocho tasks, but with the tile glitch, I’m not doing new tasks there now. If I can rack up donuts at Christmas like I did at Halloween, I might set my sights on something bigger, like Otto or Krustylu. I love the Mayflower ship, but I think I’d rather have a character.

I’m tempted to buy the Grumple because it’s the best multiplier per donut value, but I didn’t see that episode and I think it’s ugly. My multiplier is only like 13%, so some premium stuff would help me rack up xp faster, so I could buy more donuts, so I could rack up xp faster, so I can tap away my life, apparently. If the glitch isn’t fixed (sometimes I wonder if it’s a feature, not a bug), I might go with the open air stage.

I’ve expanded my Squidport so much. I never thought I’d have it be as big as it is. I really hated it until the tile glitch. I probably have glitched 151 tiles (or whatever it is) by now, but I keep two handshakes up all the time. I never see more than 3, so I don’t know if I have a handshake max or if it’s because I’m always on and tap them before they pile up.

Because I’m all over the place level-wise, I have 8 freaking quests right now. I liked only have 2-4 at the earlier stages, but I’m sure once I catch up in real levels I’ll miss all my quests. Because I’ve been so distracted by goo, then taking a break, my town is a mess and I need to reorganize, but I think that’s going to have to wait until after Christmas.

I am trying to delete some of my friends. I have about 100. I’ve been trying to get rid of people that don’t visit me. I don’t want to be like “You can’t play with me if you don’t play my way”, but I’d rather be friends with people who visit me than people who don’t. I’d rather have people who tap my tile/ch6/farm and have their own tile to tap (so much xp and donuts!) than people who seem to have not logged in since Halloween.

My one stupid newbie(ish) question is: when two characters are on a task (not Sherri and Teri), is the payout doubled? I try to count the money as it collects, but it goes by so quickly and never in the easiest way to count. I get different totals, too. So when Legs and Louie interrogate a suspect, is it $70 total or $70 each? Does it depend on the characters/task? It seems sometimes that it’s task value X 2, but sometimes not.

I’m xamovo.

I have been unsuccessful in creating a user name, so I am still anonymous. When I do, I’ll list it out here, and I’ll also copy the list from the thread.

I have no idea why, but it tells me it cannot connect to the external server when I tell it to create my user, but I can open up the user agreement with no problem, which i assume is on the same server.

Oh well.

Still not sure how to collect donuts any faster than i am, which has been one or two at a time when I complete a level.

Tomorrow I get to see what the first mystery box contains after playing 5 straight days. Maybe donuts?

Oh, i guess I could also increase my donuts if i used donuts to by the scratch off ticket and hit the right combo.

mmmmmm donuts.

This, is exactly the reason I tell people not to kill themselves trying to get XP, I did it, I watched a lot of people here do it, one of my co-workers did everything in his power to level up as quickly as possible, but since the levels don’t totally coincide with quests (they simply unlock them, but you still need to do them in order), if you race to the last level all that happens is, well, you get to the last level. You still have to work your way through all those quests.
So, like you, my co-worker is at level 37 and still working on quests that should have been done 15 levels ago.
IMHO you’re much better off just doing the quests as they show up and concentrating on making money (which comes with XP anyways). But doing things like buying and selling trees or building houses just to get to the next level doesn’t actually get you anywhere.

Eitherway, once you do make it to the end and you do finish all the quests then you’ll be able to start creating a nice little reserve fund. Then it’s nice because when they drop a new level with a half million+ dollars worth of buildings to buy you can just buy them instead of spending a week saving up for them or trying to decide if you want to buy them first or buy something from a week ago first.
