Is wonderful…most sleepy…many vampires.
Bleh!
No vampires yet, but I did have an invasion of about a dozen cows in my Greek lots.
Some pleasant surprises!
After turning my graphics back up to full power (defaulted down after installation), my game seems to run a lot smoother, most noticeably on the fly-over when you enter a neighborhood.
I love the way they re-did the wardrobe option! Now instead of scrolling through outfits one by one, you have the same screen (almost) as when buying them – multiple outfits on one page to choose from. This is a god-send considering Betty has every outfit in the game.
There is no more cheering for A+ report cards.
more to come…boss walked in.
Overall, I’m really having fun with Nightlife. A few thoughts …
My favorite thing – the smustle. This cracks me up like nobody’s business. Every time a Sim wants to do the smustle, I practically fall out of my chair laughing. I’m sure this will stop being funny eventually.
Some of my Sim kids have stopped with the report card cheering, which is excellent. I can’t figure out why a few of the lots still have cheering. I’m also a little sad that installing Nightlife cleaned up on particular bug I was having on a few lots – the kids would get stuck on the bus after school, so I would delete the bus, and the kids would appear without any homework – but they still got As every day. Oh well.
The dates are fun, I like things that give you a score, so I’m glad the Sims is going in this direction. I haven’t quite mastered the outings yet, as there’s more guesswork about what the Sims want to do, but I’m still trying. I haven’t been to every downtown lot yet, but I like almost all the ones I’ve seen so far. Also, as usual, I’m getting a kick out of the new radio stations available (and did I mention the smustle?)
I like all the new outfits and objects, I wish there were even more. After a Bad Experience with custom content, these days I stick with strictly Maxis made stuff, so it was nice to infuse everyone’s wardrobes with some new selections.
I was a little worried because it wasn’t clear to me (before the release) that college Sims could go on dates, so it’s great that they can, and that seems to break up the monotony of college life very nicely.
Turn ons and turn offs – there aren’t really that many to choose from, are there? I was surprised by this.
I thought I would like the cars more. It’s nice having a car, especially for going dowtown, but I’m not pleased with the driveways and garages. It feels like there aren’t enough ways to have them blend with the various styles of the houses I build. Everyone’s garage/driveway looks the same.
So far I am not thrilled by the pleasure seekers aspiration. 50 dates is A LOT. I let my Sims age and die naturally (have to make way for the next generation), so 50 dates is hard to manage, much less 50 dream dates.
Little tiny thing – I’m so glad they fixed the “hang up” command for the phone. For some reason, it bothered my sense of Sims courtesy to end every phone conversation by clicking off the icon.
Two questions – hopefully these have obvious answers. These are two problems I always had with the Sims 2, and was hoping would be fixed with Nightlife. However, I am also a little dim at times, so maybe they aren’t really problems and I just don’t know what I’m doing …
First, the email. I have my Sims send each other email a lot, but when a Sim checks his email, it always says he has no new messages. This annoys me. I took the time to send you email, I want you to read it, gosh darn it!
Second, toddler’s hair. When you create a toddler, you can choose from a few hairstyles. But if your Sims have a baby, when it grows into a toddler, you always get the same boring hairstyle. Is there a way to change this that I’m just not figuring out?
Hee hee hee!
One of my female sims was getting near zero on both hunger and energy, so I figured I should have her eat something first so she wouldn’t starve. She sits down to eat, takes a couple of bites and then…
SPLAT!
She passed out face-first into her food! If her snoring away from face-down in a plate of spaghetti wasn’t funny enough, the dazed look she gave after she finally lifted her head from the plate had me rolling on the floor.
She starved anyway, but fortunately her husband was able to win her back.
On an unrelated note, does the uncensor patch have to be re-installed in a new place? I’m getting that dumb mosaic screen again over my sims when they go to the bathroom.
btw, delphica,
I think you can change a toddler’s hair by having an adult pick them up and take them to a mirror. I don’t know for certain, so I’ll have to test this tonight.
Since that ass started to go on about the sims being a pedophile training program and worse for morals than Grand Theft with Hot Coffee, Maxis took out the nude patch and discourages discussion of it.
Just got my copy of Nightlife (just in time for my big 3-0 birthday) the other day… I am definitely enjoying it.
One question, not really Nightlife related: whenever I invite someone over to spend the night, invariably they never go to sleep and then complain that I didn’t let them get any sleep. I’ve made sure there were extra beds, in case they didn’t want to sleep with my Sim, but usually they just futz around for a bit, even after my Sim has gone to bed, and then bitch at me because they’re tired. Am I doing something wrong?
I bought a copy last weekend, and I’m enjoying it a lot. I love watching them bowl, and I like sending my handsome, tattooed new Sim, Mohammar Jaffed, on dates. He’s met the love of his life, but the bitch has since not shown up for two parties. So now he’s hitting on the pizza delivery girl. He’ll show her!
One thing that annoys me is that sometimes asking innocuous questions like, “What is your job?” will cause the two of you to crush on each other, or will cause the person to have a negative reaction. That’s just silly. Asking about jobs, wants, fears, etc. shouldn’t cause any change in friendship, positive or negative, and 99% of sims should just answer the question.
I had a bug earlier this week that meant none of my sims could go into houses, so I had to uninstall and reinstall the expansion. I lost all the Maxis downloads in the process.
They just disabled the intprop cheat due to the a-holio lawyero.
New one here:

Good for Maccers too.
You have to get a hack to be able to change Toddlers’ hair.
You’re sending email but not receiving any? Do you have any pre or possibly non-compatible Nightlife hacks?
People with phone hacks were reporting all sorts of wonky stuff going on.
As a matter of, here’s a very useful thread with bugs and known solutions/workarounds for them and what Maxis has said:

Most useful thing I found (and the only bug I’m really experiencing) was how to make the userstartup.cheat file to increase the number of visitors you can have and to set the Lot View Setting in Game Play Options.
Can anyone else change and save theirs?
For getting someone to sleep over, my best method involves having my Sim Woo Hoo the guest to sleep.
I find if I don’t I get the same reaction as you. There may be a fix for this on one of the hacker sites:
Variousimmers.com
Moreawesomethanyou.com
Modthesims2.com
I may go look for one myself.
Oh! For those who are letting the vampires out, be sure to read this:

A Crumplebottom Vampire will corrupt a file in your game. This shows how to prevent the corruption.
That’s an annoyance for a lot of people, which means if it’s not already hacked it will be soon.
I know a lot of people don’t like/trust hacks, but I find if I only get a few and get them from a consistent source I don’t have any problems. If it turns out I don’t like it, I just delete it out of the Downloads folder and keep on truckin’.
Has anyone else have a influx of twin births? I’ve had 3 in a week after a 4 month dry spell.
Mine also fell asleep in the food after a long night of partying. I left him there for a while to see if he would drown or suffocate, but no such luck.
I had married Mr. Big in an attempt to fulfill the “Marry a Rich Sim” want, but apparently have $80,000 simoleons wasn’t rich enough. I tried killing him off through food poisoning, but it was taking too long. I finally had him “Run With Scissors” a few times until he keeled over.
I then had poor, grieving Anthony marry some townie. When I asked her how much money she had, a little thought bubble popped up with three of the simoleon signs. After their marriage, she only brought $18,000 with her though, and again didn’t fulfill the Marry Rich want (Although Anthony with $100,000 apparently fulfilled hers). She only lasted the night before having another scissors accident.
I am now trying to snag the Diva. However, I can hardly ever find her. Any tips, hints, or cheats on getting her to show up or where to find her?
I’ve tended to find her at nightclubs at night - such as ‘The Hub’. Of course, my Diva fell in love with my Mr. Big at that night club while my poor ignored Sim watched in sadness.
Question, how do you get people to actually kill themselves with the scissors? I’ve tried, but all they do is run around for awhile and then get bored and put the scissors down - heck I sent one of my least favorite sims out every morning for five or six days in a row…
Lady
I always wondered how rich you had to be to rich enough. I only tried to fulfil it once and I straight up cheated and gave a townie $500,000 figuring that ought to do it.
As for where to find the Diva, I’ve seen her a few times at the Bernard’s Botanical Garden (which I’m in absolute love with!) and the Crypt-O-Club.
One person who married their Sim to Mr. Big reported getting over 5 mil. The included a screen shot with their claim, so unless they’re pretty good with Photoshop it seems the amount of loot the special Townies have can really vary.
I hate that simoleon sign response when you ask them ‘How Much Money’.
If you can tell me you work the night shift at McSims or that you Want to Woo Hoo my Sim, you can tell me exactly how much you have. :dubious:
Practice, practice, practice.
I usually have to do it at least 16-24 times.
However many you can queue up (I’m thinking it’s 8), I fill it up 3 times.
It’s hard to do.
Gotcha! That makes sense then, it’s like so many other random occurances, try, try and try again. Surprisingly my best bet on death has always been ‘watch stars’.
Hmmm, I haven’t seen the “Run With Scissors” option yet… do I have to do anything to get it to show up?
And I have yet to successfully have a Sim get killed by satellite. Sheesh.
It’s a download, I got it from the ea sims 2 website - it’s a ‘maxis created’ object so I felt comfortable with it.
Hopefully this will link us to the ‘Runs with Scissors Playset’
Yes, you have to run with the scissors several times. Some people report success after only 2 tries, some it takes many many tries. I think the Sim’s mood affects it, but that is just my opinion (I haven’t tested it).
I don’t (and haven’t ever) had any non-Maxis content in the games, and I removed even the Maxis-created downloaded objects before installing Nightlife. I’m really very puzzled about the email thing because I haven’t seen anyone else mention it and it’s been happening to my Sims since the original Sims 2, and then with University, and now still with Nightlife (and I did a complete reinstall after University before installing Nightlife).
Cool list of bugs, thanks for the link!
I haven’t really paid that much attention to “Marry a Rich Sim” amounts, but I think it’s 100,000 to satisfy the want.
Download this at the bottom of the first post. Only download one - pick the version you like the sound of best. Personally, I always go to the DEST version.
Once you install it in your game, click on the blue cabinet. You’ll have a lot of options, one of which is “fix appearance” click that and you can choose “makeover”. That’ll bring up the view you see in the mirror for older sims, so you can change the toddler’s appearance. There are a lot of great custom toddler hair meshes at Modthesims2, and you can change to any one of them using fix appearance.
And as a FYI for anyone who experiences anything funny in their game - if you download houses off the Sims Exchange, it’s possible you’d downloaded a non-NL compatable hack without even knowing it. You can’t go by names of files, since things uploaded to the exchange are often renamed randomstringoflettersandnumbers. The Sims2pack clean installer program - doesn’t run while running the game - will help you check for hidden hacks, and you can use it to install houses from the exchange to install everything but the hacks too (or install nothing but the house or…) Download it and read the directions here.
There are a few bugs, like the one where visitors say “see ya” or “look at the time” after just a couple hours even during the day, but most problems people have experienced are turning out to be hack related, which is confusing for people who thought they didn’t download any hacks but have done so unintentionally.
