The Snake Pliskin Appreciation Thread

Hey Dopers

Please help me explain “Escape From New York” to my friend Christy. It came up at happy hour and I was at a loss to fully capture the essence of this cinematic masterpiece. Also, please use the word “penal” as often as possible.

Sorry I ended up with multiple posts on this subject. Please close one of them.

Snake Plissken? I thought you were dead!
Sorry, but somebody was going to say it.

Simple: Snake is a kick-ass-and-take-names loner who ignores the bureaucratic bullshit rules to get the job done. The system rejected him because he wouldn’t toe the line. But when Chrunch Time comes, when the Baddest Ass on the Street has the State Department boys peeing their pants, one over-the-hill ex-warrior remembers that Snake is the ultimate Go-To Guy.

There’s never been another film anything like it!

And he’s such a badass that Solid Snake, the main character in the PS2 game Metal Gear Solid, saw fit to steal his name.

I was upset that the only movie featuring my two favourite actors (Bruce Campbell and Kurt Russell) was so bad. Escape from LA is an embarassment to the name “Pliskin.”

“Call me Snake”

Anyone ever see “Escape From the Bronx”? Is it at all related to Escape from New York?

Either way, Escape From the Bronx was a POS movie.
