Use a German sausage for drumming practice.

How about a moratorium on obscure songs that no one has heard of before?

99 Problems by Jay-Z

Bulls on Parade - Rage Against the Machine

WTF?

My statement was, apparently, too controversial.
Never mind.

Still in play:

Use a German sausage for drumming practice.

Oh, if you’re saying “99 Problems” and “Bulls On Parade” are “obscure songs no one has heard of before”… um… just no.

“99 Problems” was certified platinum.

“Bulls On Parade” is probably the second or third best-known RATM song.

Well, let’s stipulate that there is a broad age range and a broad range of musical interests on the SDMB.

Just as I could cite hundreds of rock or country songs of the 50s and 60s that would be “obscure” to you but second nature to me, there are those of us who know who Rage Against the Machine are (Reznor is from a town about 25 miles away from me) but who don’t really know their catalog at all.

If you’re homing in on the phrase “no one,” I can see your point. But across age lines, there are boatloads of songs that “everyone” of a certain generation knows but that will be “obscure” to others.

You wanna set temporary game-fences? Like, “next [x number] 1990’s.”? That might be ok.

When I don’t know one, I just let others solve it. I do rescind my suggestion that we stop using Beatles songs; I must have been cranky. Obviously plenty of you love solving them.

Also, to be pedantic: Trent Reznor is with Nine Inch Nails, not Rage Against The Machine. But that actually helps prove your point.

So anybody got a line on “Use a German sausage for drumming practice”?

I’d better reword this - it sounds like the sausage is the brumstick, which won’t work.
So:

Been done already (see #331)

Are we bailing on German sausage? (no, that’s not a new clue…)

German sausage was “Beat on the Brat”, too.

New, hopefully original one:

Make like a bunny in those Middle Earth peaks.

Wow! I screwed that up bigtime, didn’t I? How embarrasking! If I had thought for more than a minute, even I would have realized my error. :o

Just to give the local angle again, in many of the clubs I’ve played in over the years (the usual Moose/Eagles/Elks/American Legion circuit a country/rockabilly bar band might frequent) there’ll be a large room heater hanging from the ceiling in a corner.

They all say “Reznor” — Trent’s family’s business.

“I’m just a singer in a rock 'n roll band” - The Moody Blues

Edit: Too late, and with a less suitable answer! Plus I don’t know the new clue!

I guess they’re both in play.

Correct.
