The problem with calling her Diana is, the minute someone calls her “Princess Diana” - and, unlike the girl’s grandmother, she can “officially” be called HRH Princess Diana - it’s going to invoke an immediate comparison, and some possibly unpleasant memories.
She’s going to have several names.
Her dad is William Arthur Philip Louis, her uncle is Henry Charles Albert David, and her brother is George Alexander Louis.
I’m changing my bet to Charlotte Elizabeth Margaret
You mean Frances, Francis is a boy’s name. My money’s on Charlotte too.
Or they could be really creative, like
Georgia Rhiannon Alexis Catherine Elizabeth
Royals? Creative? Yeah, ok, I will be serious next time.
Oooooh! I like!
I’m gonna bet Diana will be one of them. She’s such an icon that the Royal Family would be foolish to throw away such a gimmee. Not to mention, she was Wills’ mum.
I hoping that Alice makes it some where, but I’m wondering where it came from all of a sudden?
Alice is kind of an “old” name, one not used frequently. It’s my mother’s name, who passed away last week at the age of 89. She would have found it interesting that Alice became popular again.
It’s been very popular in the UK for about twenty years, and was never that unusual before that. Perhaps Alice in Wonderland has more of an effect here.
There have been several minor royals called Alice, so it wouldn’t be surprising.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. HUGS
They got from Di’s pal, Reg:
All the young girls love Alice,
Tender young Alice they say,
Come over and see me,
Come over and please me,
Alice, it’s my turn today
Hmmm. Maybe not the best name choice.
There have been a number of royals named Alice. The third child, and second daughter, of Queen Victoria was Alice. She married a German prince and their daughter was Alix, the German form of the name. It was later changed when she converted to Russian Orthodoxy so she could marry Nicholas, the heir to the Russian throne. She became Alexandra.
Victoria also had another grandchild named Alice, the second child of her youngest son Leopold.
Alix/Alexandra had a niece named Alice, the daughter of her oldest brother. That Alice was the mother of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Fiona would be a good name for a Princess.
While George grow up having to to be the serious one, like his Dad, ole Princess Fiona can be the party princess like her uncle Harry.
They should stick a Diana in there somewhere.
Other than that, I genuinely don’t care about the royals, viva le republic for me.
Get Out of MY Swamp! [/fakescottishbrogue]
Correction – Prince Philip’s mother was the daughter of Alexandra’s oldest SISTER. Her brother’s only daughter died when she was eight. (He did have two sons with his second wife, though)
And I like the idea of Alice.
She’s been named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. That certainly covers a few bases…
The name of the little princess has been announced: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
I got “Diana” right, at least. Woot!
I win the thread. Nailed it! In the exact order, too.
Wow LavenderBlue. Great guess.
Well, I got Charlotte Elizabeth, but didn’t want the Diana. They’ve covered all the bases, grandfather, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
I got Charlotte Elizabeth too, but I certainly didn’t expect Diana. I’m surprised in a good way that they included it.
A lovely name all around.
