The Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Really? His past history against the Hawks kind of speaks for itself. Also, if he is THIS weak that being sat has a long term effect mentally, then he isn’t the goalie people think he is.

Also, starting your backup is a good way to motivate the team to step up their game in front of a goalie.

It’s a stupid move because the goaltending in Vancouver has officially become a distraction. The media is going to be talking about this endlessly.

And what if Schneider wins? Do you really keep Roberto Fucking Luongo as your backup in the second round?

And if Schneider loses? Sending this series to a seventh game because you decided to try out your backup instead of a Vezina candidate is lunacy.

The Canucks are now in a no-win situation. That’s a stupid place to intentionally put your own team in.

Of course you don’t keep Roberto Luongo on the bench after this game - no matter what happens. As I said, if he is SO fragile that getting benched after two straight shellacking then the Canucks need to re-evaluate their 0 time stanley cup winning goaltender.

I think they were in a no-win situation before. If Luongo starts and they get killed for a third straight game, then what? Do you STILL stay with him?

It appears as though Luongo doesn’t stay benched for long…

Yeah, Schneider’s injury was painful to watch. That stretch to try and stop the penatly shot had "groin injury’ written all over it. Ow.

The school of thought I’'ve seen associated with this thinks that Luongo suffers from some kind of Blackhawks jinx and he needs to be benched until the series ends because he can’t mentally beat the hawks. If they do move on, you restart Luongo because the Blackhawks are out of his head.

Now that he’s getting tossed into the game after being benched, things get rather interesting.

Hawks win. Incredible.

What in God’s name was Roberto Luongo doing?

The Canucks played quite well, really, but when they needed Luongo to make a relatively routine save… he fell flat on his face, literally.

He was fighting off the puck for that whole overtime period. I really have to wonder if the rumours are right and he is hurt. He looked so awkward every time he had to make a save with his arms.

That’s what Luongo does, though. You never noticed? He makes one great save, kicks out a rebound, but in the process falls flat on his face, leaving the top of the net wide open. Whenever he has to do the splits, he falls forwards - he can’t get back up without getting his legs parallel to each other first. He just isn’t flexible enough. I swear he spends half a game on his belly.

Hehe. What a fucking great experience. 5th row at the Hawks half boards. Truly epic event.

LUUUUOOONGOOOOO!

We own that mother fucker. Where was Torres’ cheap shotting ass tonight? Now I’m tempted to fly to Vancouver just to be the loudest guy in the 100 level and to be there for the conclusion of the epic comeback.

FLYERS!!! More drama then necessary, more goaltender confusion, yes, that’s us.

Can’t wait for Tuesday, for possibly another OT ending, but also for the Blackhawks. I’m hoping they knock out the Canucks. Hey, rematches are welcome too.

I’m also rooting for LA Kings and for Predators in the west. Yeah, weird perhaps, but since I know the Stanley Cup Playoffs are often a crapshoot, I would not be surprised to see the Predators get to the West finals or the Championship finals.

No matter what, Overtime Playoff Hockey is the BEST BEST BEST sport to watch over any else when it comes to post season.

Might be time to start worrying about the 2nd tier Blackhawks, eh?

Wow this is eerily similar to one Jameer Nelson “See you in the second round” to Derrick Rose a couple of weeks ago..

I love playoff NHL and NBA..
Go Chicago Westside Hockey club..

Goodness gracious. More overtime in the Sharks Kings series…

Joe Thornton with the series winner in OT!

Awww dang it. Ducks lost.

I really hope Teemu comes back next year.

Good for Nashville. Finally.

Question; if the Canucks lose tonight, just how bad will the fallout be? I mean, this would have to be the most cowardly and disgraceful round of playoff hockey in NHL history, wouldn’t it? They’d HAVE to clean house, assuming teh Vancouver fans didn’t actually lynch the entire squad.

They’d have to dump Luongo, if nothing else.

I, for one, would welcome a different Western Conference team being the designated choker.

The can’t - Luongo has a no-trade, no waive clause in his contract. Besides, he is a great goalie.

I’m not worried - the Canucks are sure to win tonight. Thankfully, the bandwagon is so much lighter now.
