It stopped raining over here too. I hope the storm blows out of the area quick-like, so that the girls in my house can go up to the eastern Shore this weekend. I’m really looking forward to two days of alone time.
We sent one of the VPs out for Chinese food today for lunch. Here’s what I got:
Smile to others; honesty and
friendship bring you fortune.
GRRRRR! I can’t get my business cards to print! I think it might be because of the dampness, because it worked the other night. They won’t feed - they get hung up, but regular paper prints just fine.
Curses! I forgot I was going to have to deal with holiday traffic heading home today.
Oh well, it can’t be any worse than the traffic I had to deal with getting to the airport on Tuesday. They had actually shut down the entire south bound freeway which led to three hours of driving on back roads in freeway volume traffic. Turns out, as I found out today, that the road was closed because a tanker truck on some sort exploded causing a multi-car pile up, certainly not an everyday occurance.
I’m home and napped. I survived Ernesto, not much damage around. The stoplight was out a Wake Forest Road this morning, but there wasn’t much traffic at 5:45a.m. T he cops at the intersection didn’t even get out of their cars.
bobbio, I couldn’t get Maggie to go out this morning. She absolutely hates heavy rain.
Rebo, enjoy your vacation.
Spats, Kraits on a Plane? It will never fly.
FCM, why is your printer damp? Did you leave it in Bernie’s water dish again?
Piffle. The entire lower deck of the Bay Bridge will be closed this weekend, so it will be impossible to drive east out ot of San Francisco.
Let me repeat that for the dingbats in town: It will be IMPOSSIBLE for you to drive east this weekend. IMPOSSIBLE. You will need to either go down the peninsula to San Mateo, take the San Mateo bridge across to Hayward and then come back up 880, or go north, cross the Golden Gate, keep going up101, then head east via the Richmond bridge. You will not be able to drive across the Bay Bridge. It will be CLOSED UNTIL TUESDAY MORNING.
Caltrans has been carpet-bombing the area with radio and TV ads, putting the message on the roadside signs, handing out pamphlets and doing everything short of sending out people to go door to door to warn everyone. Needless to say, many thousands of people will be caught completely by surprise - an average of 280,000 vehicles cross it daily, so even if they get the message to 99% of the drivers, that still leaves nearly 3000 cars trying to go the wrong way.
Can you guess that I’m tired of hearing about it? I’ll be safely miles away all weekend at the Ren Faire site as it’s dress rehearsal weekend.
Maggie wasn’t the only one who wouldn’t go out today, dogbutler – Rusty, as usual, point-blank refused to go out and pee because he might get [whine]weeeet!![/whine] I guess swimming doesn’t count as getting wet. Idiot dog. So I put on a rain jacket and fastened a leash on him and took him out for a walk. He ambled along resignedly enough beside me, but refused to even contemplate peeing. So as of today, he has yet to go. Damn, I wish I had his kidneys. It just doesn’t seem like it should be healthy to hold it that long, but we’ve seen him do it often enough to give up after a certain point.
Other than that, it’s been a boring day at the Tiger den. I’m trying to talk myself into doing something productive this evening, but I suspect that may end up consisting of putting my feet up and starting my next knitting project. Which doesn’t do much for the three transcripts I have sitting on my desk, two due Tuesday, one due Wednesday. Happy holiday weekend to me, too.
I’m back - did you miss me? We had a power outage of just over 3 hours. Dang…
Got Bernie back, and I’m less than impressed with the job they did. She wasn’t dried at all. That’s the main reason I send her out to be groomed - she’s got a thick coat and I don’t have the means to dry her. Plus I’d asked them to trim her up a bit. Heck, I could have done better, and I’m not a groomer! So it was $50 pretty much shot.
Then I got my car back - to the tune of $550+. The battery was bad, part of the tail pipe broke and they had to weld it up, and they couldn’t find an obvious leak on the a/c so they filled it and added dye. Should it die again, in theory the dye will tell them where the leak is.
Since the power went out before we fetched the car, we went out to eat - apparently the power outage was localized south of Mechanicsville. And when we came home, it was still dead, so I did my exercises, and my sweetie helped stretch my shoulder, then the power came back just as we were finishing. So here I am. And from the looks of the weather radar, we should see the end of the rain in a couple of hours.
I am home and defeated by my day. Too long and pathetic to go into.
And I have two of the biggest brats in the world. I raised spoiled children. I will go commit harikiri or whatever. I am quite pissed at both of them (#2 is not spoiled). Lissa --nor are they in my pantheon, but thanks for the update! I haven’t shared my list, so here it is:
cool breezes
porch swings
good books
chocolate
laughter with friends
iced tea
good sex
Our power blinked out, hard, a couple times, but didn’t go out and stay out. Thank heaven; I hate power outages. Although at least the temperature is comfortable; I hate long power outages when it’s either too hot or too cold.
And my idiot dog, of course, made a total liar of me. After getting soaked for naught this afternoon, he went outside in the wind and rain half an hour ago, voluntarily, did his business, and ended up getting happily soaked through wrestling in the yard with Isaac. :smack: Animals can drive us nearly as crazy as children, can’t they, though?
I’ve been to the Minnesota State Fair. I’ve been to the Ohio State Fair, the Washington State Fair and the Tennessee State Fair.
Today I met a very cute Dutchman who wants to sell me a two-year-old filly. My gelding needs a companion. He and his wife (sigh!) live about 50 miles away and he came to Tennessee after working in Colorado as a cowbay. He said he always wanted to be a cowboy. He said he and the crew helping him put up fencing killed three rattlesnakes this week. I moved over one in my backyard last Saturday.
Hi everyone!!! I spent the day working working working and then came home and finished cleaning cleaning cleaning. My niece and nephew are FILLED WITH ENERGY. I am tired.
Start up went in two directions. Mine - meaning my buses in my district are damn near perfect from day one. Those routes that we contract to a contractor, one that I used to work for in fact (no rigs, not THAT one, the one I worked for before) have been crap.
The issues are all theirs, and I’m holding their feet to a very very hot flame to make them WORK by Tuesday when we come back. There’s some work for us to do, getting them some info, but suffice it to say that a regional VP, a local manager, a dispatcher, a ops manager and about 40 drivers will not have a fun weekend. Working and all ya know?
Since last friday, I’ve been on about 3-4 hours of sleep a night, piles of pizza and Fritos, coffee and beer. Tonight, the Kid, the Wife and I went and had a real dinner. I ate about 2 truckloads of pasta and then stopped by the neighbor’s to enjoy a couple beerverages.
I’m sleeping IN, then going to work for a few hours before the first afternoon/night of parties in the 'hood this weekend.
I’ll post again manana, but right now, I’m whipping out the laser pointer and entertaining the cats…
