The Straight Dope Lost and Found Desk

Found: One gold ring, inscription:
Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul

Lost, thanks to furryman: all hope for freedom in Middle-Earth.

Found: new job as Cooperation Facilitator in The Pits.

Found today: A pen. Covered in labels and tape. The innermost label says “Ann’s Pen”. The next label says “Conor’s Pen”. The next says “Orla’s pen”. The next, “No, this is Ann’s pen”. The next, “Wrong. It’s Conor’s Pen”. Then: “This is actually Orla’s pen”. The outermost, that intrigued me enough to make me unwrap it: “For the last time, this is Ann’s pen. Orla and Conor keep your filthy hands off!”

Shame she dropped it in the street, after all that effort.

You should e-mail Sauron. He’s mentioned losing just such a ring and offered a reward for it’s return.

Lost: The Great Explosion by Eric Frank Russell. One of my favourite books of all time.
(and if you’re up there Uncle Bill, looking down, or down there, looking up, I know you had it… so please put it on the back step and I’ll say no more about it)

Found: One front door, after an exhaustive search up and down the street. I know I’d been down the pub for the evening but I’m sure my house was further down the road than it is now.
