The Stratford Festival

Hey there. Today is my 1st wedding anniversary (yay!) and we are going to Stratford for the weekend to celebrate. This will be a first time visit to Stratford for both of us. Anyone been there and have anything to suggest we check out?

That’s it

You mean the one in Ontario, right? cringing for feeling stupid

This never appealed to me but a friend went and really raved about how nicely done it was. I’ve since revised my interest level.

How’s that for not that helpful?

I have a poster from the festival hanging in my livingroom. I bought it at a secondhand clothes store. It’s a pretty watercolor, and makes me look like I attend theater festivals.

So I suggest you check out the posters.

Yes, the one in Ontario - 2 1/2 hour drive from home for me.

Thanks, Swiddles, I’ll look into it

Um, okay, checked with aforementioned friend. She said there’s a pretty good website (no url handy, but she says it is not hard to find) that makes it easy to buy tickets and to find overnight accommodations if needed. Town is small but quaint. It’s not all Shakespeare, they have other plays too, including a musical or two.

I think we’re about 2 1/2 hours from there too (I’m in MI) so I guess we’ll make it up there sometime…

BTW, I’m a heel for not saying this before: Happy Anniversary!

Thanks, Cranky

We already have the tickets and the rooms booked. There are also many restaurants and shops in the area - too many to see all of them. I’m hoping for some recommendations for those.

Happy National-Holiday-Of-Your-Choice Weekend

I’m about 2.5 hours from Stratford too and have always wanted to go there for a couple of plays. I get their annual " Things to do and see" guide every spring and it looks like they have alot of book stores and local artist art galleries. Speciality food restaurants seem to be big there ( at least from what I saw)

There is also a shoe store in the area called Arden footwear that if I am every in the area, looks like it has a good selection of Birkenstocks and other jesus-sandal type shoes. And with CAD at, what , $1.50 USD now, it would be a deal.

Happy anniversary and have a great time! Send yourselves postcards written to each other from Canunckville. We’ve always done that and it’s a fun way to say " I love you."

Since I live just down the road (in Kitchener/Waterloo), I thought I’d stop lurking for a moment, and give my $0.02 (CAN) worth. If you have the time, and enjoy the countryside, take a drive outside of Stratford, Waterloo and St. Jacobs. There’s some beautiful farm land up this way. Just watch out for the horse and buggies, this is Mennonite country. You can tell which are the traditional farms by looking to see if there are power lines running in from the road. There is a very nice park in the middle of Stratford as well, if you’re looking for a place to relax for a little while before or after your play (what are you going to see BTW?).

Enjoy your anniversary!

Too new for a sig. But if I had one, it’d be funny.
Honest.

Stratford is beautiful!! It is great if you like shakespeare or the like. I would suggest you stay at a bed and breakfast, they are excellent there. There are also really nice restarants and stuff too. And definatly take in a play.

Good Luck with it.
