So, O.K., like the Haitians need to come to America but some people are all, “What about the sprain on our resources?” And it’s like, when I had this garden party for my father’s birthday and it’s all catered, you know, I said “R.S.V.P.” because it’s a sit down dinner. O.K.? People come that like, didn’t R.S.V.P.! And I’m buggin’. I have to haul ass to the kitchen, re-distribute the food and like squish in extra place-settings and people are on mismatched chairs and all. But by the end of the day it was like “the more, the merrier”. And so if the government could just get to the kitchen and re-arrange some things we could certainly party with Haitians. I want to add too, that I heard someone on an NPR show today (I listened to a lot of NPR, I spent over 4 hours on the road for work today, ugh) that opined that as batshit crazy as the “eating cats and dogs” slur is, that it actually works for Trump.
Her reasoning was that it gets him attention, all the memes and everything are keeping him in the spotlight, and even though that will turn off some voters who are offended, it is still a net gain.
I think the lady was full of shit, personally (and she did not give the impression of being a Trump supporter, she seemed horrified by the whole thing) but honestly I don’t think Trump needs more attention. He’s the nominee for POTUS for one of the two major parties and the election is a couple of months away. Both he and Harris will be in the spotlight constantly no matter what they do. Saying something stupid, clearly bullshit, and an extremely bad racial slur is not good for him. It’ll fire up a few alt right folks but even some conservatives are being turned off, let alone folks toward the middle of the spectrum.

@griffin: Funny you mention Nazis. Turns out, this was started by one. As in, one with the hand tattoos and everything. Anthony Harris, a member of the neo-Nazi group “Blood Tribe” appeared at a Springfield council meeting claiming Haitians were killing ducks at the park.
And did you know that school got cancelled, and that Haitians are hiding in their homes? Because of the racist rioting.
As much as I approve of making fun of how stupid they’re being (because that works better on fascists than outrage), this is actively causing problems. I had hoped Trump saying it and being laughed at even by children would have helped extinguish this.
And of course, the woman responsible for the Facebook post now says she has no firsthand knowledge of anyone’s pets being eaten and regrets posting it.
