The Sucker Punch thread

I’m a girl, saw it last night… I thought it was fun.

I wasn’t expecting anything amazing, I wasn’t really hoping for a plot at all, so I was actually pleasantly surprised at the amount of time spent NOT in fantasy Heavy Metal “combat gear” blowing various incarnations of baddies into flinders.

It made sense to me, I thought it was an interesting idea (sort of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and it was executed … eh, with enough coherence to enjoy.

I laughed my ass off during the samurai fight, and grinned like an idiot during the Nazi scenes, but I have to say I felt a little sorry for the dragon.

Mr Stereotypical Wiseman was hysterical. Looking at his face, he’s practically wincing as he hams up those godawful lines. He must have had so much fun.

Group consensus is that Snyder took Dark City, Inception, and Cuckoo’s Nest, and filtered it all multiple times through a Heavy Metal mag. Consensus was also that we found that totally ok, and quite fun.

(Also, I thought the schoolgirl and fantasy costumes were freaking hot, but then I’m an equal-opportunity enjoyer of um… scenery, so take that as you will.)

My impression is that those fleets were reckoned exceptionally powerful gatherings in one place. Twenty-seven of Nelson’s 33 ships, and 33 of Villeneuve’s 40, were multi-decked warships of 64 guns or more.

But these represented only fractions of the total navies of the respective nations. According to Nelson’s navy: the ships, men, and organisation, 1793-1815, the Royal Navy at its Napoleonic-era peak comprised 1,017 warships.

Insult the hell out of me with hot women in skimpy costumes, I shall bear it as best i can!

I saw it last night and enjoyed it. A fun popcorn flick. It was fine as it is. If I was going to suggest it to my wife, it would have to have a more “Girl, Interrupted” style vibe to it for the development of the characters. “Action development” doesn’t work for her.

But I enjoyed it for the over the top action scenes. As my friend said, it’s like someone got Freddiew (Youtube special effects guy who does short movies) to do four awesome sequences and then worked those in as the plot.

Yes, it was thin in development at times but I’m more impressed (surprised) when a movie manages to do development anymore, so really no surprise there.

It’s close enough. If only Brenda Song was also in Sucker Punch.

Jamie Chung was also in a Disney movie, Princess Protection Program – so it’s even MORE true.

I saw the movie in IMAX this weekend, and while I don’t regret paying to see it, I was a little let down, too. (I’m a girl that was excited about the film, for the record). The visuals and music were awesome, and I loved the first three fight scenes.

I think the high-roller was a parallel to the Lobotomist. I am not sure who the mayor was supposed to be - I could not remember if there was a “real-world” equivalent shown with a lighter in the beginning.

I also disagree with the choice that Sweet Pea should have lived and escaped - if anything, Rocket should have been the one to survive. Dealing with her actions (running away) causing her sister’s death and thus returning to her loving home to live out her life would have been more poignant to me.

I feel like probably a lot of scenes with Blondie were edited out, as I hardly remembered who she was when she snitched.

I thought the bedazzled sailor outfit at the end was completely ridiculous and not sexy, though. It seemed like a random departure from the earlier outfits.

The mayor was one of the orderlies who had a lighter at one of the doors.

I thought most of the outfits were strange and a strange place for her to go in her mind so one didn’t stand out above the others for me.

I agree that Blondie did not stand out enough for me.

I also agree that if Rocket had survived and caused the death of her sister, same as Baby Doll, that would have been more poignant.

It makes sense that Rocket died because Sweet Pea had spent her entire life making sure Rocket was safe, so Rocket taking the knife was a way to reverse their roles.

The dude in the “real world” with the lighter wasn’t one of the orderlies. I am pretty sure he was the security guard in the front (last barrier) cage. This makes it make more sense that it was a big production number to get to him and get his lighter away.

I also agree that Rocket had to be the one to kick it - the whole parallel of little sisters taking the shot so that the older sister had a chance of getting away. Babydoll muffed her chance, but gave Sweet Pea an opportunity in the process.

found this interesting interview with Synder on all the hatin’
http://antcomic.com/blog/?p=30410

I thought the original ending he had planned would have been way better. hope he actually films it.

reviews from my sis “pretty good”
my niece “9 out of 10”

I do want to know how Blondie and other chick ate it. I mean, in the mental hospital I doubt the orderlie would have been able to intimidate the nurse while he shot the two girls.

Hated this movie, it seems like the director should be directing music videos, not films. Good soundtrack, and its accompanying musical montages, but apart from that it has nothing to offer. How are we supposed to empathize with a mute protagonist dressed in a sailor moon outfit?

Also, I found it funny they didn’t even try to make Baby look look like a good dancer. Let me distract them with my swaying…

I don’t even know what " demographics" is. I simply gave my opinion. I’ll probably see the movie when it comes out and see if it turns out to be better than I thought.

This is EXACTLY what I was talking about. I am glad to find another member who understood why I was completley confused about the statement.

When I asked you you said that it wasnt for that reason, but rather said " haven’t you ever had anyone say " dude " to you? Like it’s just a phrase. now you are saying that you did, in fact, believe that I am a guy? The only shock and awe generated is now when seeing you change your statement from, " I was just saying dude like hey dude, not literally that shes a dude, to, I thought she was a guy."

Sorry what does IMDB mean?

Internet Movie Data Base.

Now *that *I would watch.

I knew this would be a bad movie when I said “What the fuck is this shit?” twice while watching the preview. It’s trying way too hard.
