Looks like Man of Steel 2 will feature both Superman and Batman. I would have liked a second solo Superman Movie and then this instead of a Justice League movie but I won’t complain. Info here.
What does this mean for the JLA movie?
A separate report says a Flash movie is coming and then a Justice League movie in 2017.
If this Batman/Superman movie doesn’t kill superheroes for good.
I think a World’s Finest movie is a better way to go than JL anyways.
Superman beat Zod out of sheer luck, never having had any combat training. Batman is the perfect one to teach him.
Unless he has to fight another Zod, it won’t matter.
Unless of course some “strange” event takes away his powers.
I totally called it in the Man of Steel thread. World’s Finest! This is so much smarter than WB trying to foist a whole cloth JLA on us.
I dig that Batman logo - very reminiscent of Frank Miller’s DKR logo.
They just wanted to make the world’s finest movie.
(…spoilers inevitable…)
Y’know, I can’t help but crack up at the idea of Christian Bale’s Batman trying to talk down to Henry Cavill’s Superman about that.
“So there I was, up against this hulking killer who was on some serious painkillers. I drew on all my combat training.”
“Wow.”
“I know, right? So I threw everything I could at him, at which point he picked me up and broke my back. Left me completely helpless.”
“And you learned from that, I guess. How did the rematch go?”
“I wound up bleeding out, on the ground, utterly at his mercy. Someone else then surprised me by dropping my worthy opponent in one shot.”
“Huh.”
“So tell me how you beat the rampaging evil that was Zod.”
“I wrapped him up in a chokehold, and then snapped his neck like it was a brittle twig.”
“Wait – you used lethal force?”
“Of course.”
“My god, that’s so elegant and simple! There’s so much I can learn from you! Oh, how I’ve wasted my life!”
A while back I heard rumblings that Christian Bale may or may not reprise the role for it. Anything new? And if he doesn’t does that mean that this will be yet a *third *reboot for Batman?!
BTW, I still haven’t seen Dark Knight Rises, he didn’t die at the end did he?
I’ve heard that Bale will definitely not be in the movie.
Which is for the best. He’s had his day. We need a different take on a Batman that makes sense standing next to Superman anyhow. We need The Detective. His value is his cunning and strategy. He just (peak) human, so he has to be three moves ahead of everyone - including the Kryptonian.
In some continuities, when Superman meets Batman, Batman so distrusts the alien that he bluffs that he has a heart rate monitor on himself that will wirelessly detonate a bomb killing innocents should he suddenly die. Also, he lined his mask with lead, which impresses Superman as he had not yet revealed to the public that he had that power. Batman deduced it.
Instead of starting over from scratch, I think they just need to do a soft reboot of Batman. Like Ed Norton’s Hulk or Bryan Singer’s Superman. Sort of connected to the preceding movies but not really.
All that matters: Batman put the cape down for a while, but he’s back because he realizes he can’t live a normal life. Allude to past events without getting too specific. Could be the Nolan movies, could be something else. Choose your own adventure.
Man, they are really doubling down on the gritty, joyless interpretations of the characters, aren’t they.
I suppose that’s what has clicked for DC, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
The Superman I saw in Man of Steel was neither gritty nor joyless. The tone of the movie wasn’t the tone of the character. He visibly enjoyed flying, loves his mother, and the smirk he shot at Lois could crack the moon in two.
‘Gritty’ and ‘joyless’ just means not light and quippy like Marvel. Which I appreciate, because I’m tired of quippy.
IIRC, the bomb wasn’t set to kill innocents; it was set to kill an innocent.
Specifically, it was on his own belt, set to kill Batman himself.
That doesn’t make any sense. He has a heart-rate monitor set to blow himself up should he die?
The idea is, Superman’s senses make him a living polygraph; he’ll know if Batman is lying. Batman says “Hey, if you manhandle me, a signal goes out and a bomb will explode, killing an innocent somewhere in Gotham City.” He’s not lying. Superman listens to the guy long enough to realize they’re both hunting the same crooks.
Batman finds no clues at the crime scene, Superman spots maybe four grains of red clay, Batman deduces the location where the criminals are hiding out, the day is saved, Superman says he doesn’t approve of that bit with the bomb, Batman unhooks the bomb from his belt and explains…
