Americans would vote for Trump with his underpants on his head, bragging about selling the country to the Russians before voting for a woman. ANY woman.
Yes - this^!
I LIKE to believe that demographics are such that in the long run, a more reasonable/tolerant majority will become ascendant. But the last decade or 2 has made me suspect that a sizable majority or Americans (people?) are prejudiced and intolerant in their own way. I am convinced that misogyny explained Hillary’s loss more than any other single factor.
And that increasing sectors will not necessarily embrace liberal/progressive values. For example, I understand Hispanics are not necessarily liberal.
Hell - just look at how gleefully a vast majority of us - across the board - embraced the invasion of Iraq and the Patriot Act - for no reason other than outsized fear, ignorance, and a desire to react with violence on SOMEONE.
Hillary Clinton received 3 million more votes than Trump.
She lost by a few tens of thousands in critical states. That close a loss can be explained many ways, but it’s been pointed out that so many black voters stayed home without Obama on the ticket that their votes alone would have made the difference. It’s hard, next to impossible really, to make the case they all stayed home so as to not vote for a woman.
That’s only one data point. But one data point is all we have. That makes your statement 100% factually inaccurate.

Which old-time anarchist/socialist said something like “either the (constitution?) permitted this or couldn’t prevent it”? I gather a lot of people feel like this about the Democrats.
That would be Lysander Spooner, and he was a lot more wordy.
“But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case it is unfit to exist.”
Thanks, cite now bookmarked for future reference.
People in other threads have said exactly this seriously. Hyperbole needs to be obviously bigger than reality.
Reality makes that increasingly difficult, true, but when people are actively advocating for this position here on this Board, Poe’s Law goes into effect.
