Here is the third message of Fatima as reported in today’s Observer (sister paper to the UK’s Guardian).
Does anyone else find this just a little bit anticlimactic?

As one guy quoted in the Chicago Tribune story on this said, “What they said all happened in the past. This isn’t a prediction. It’s disappointing.”
And a fat lot of good it did the pope. What good is a “prediction” that is useless?
Cecil’s column says
I’ve heard this account before. Does anyone have the straight dope on the “sun dancing around the sky”?
I can’t vouch for this particular incident, but it is fairly well known that if you stare at the sun for a while, it will appear to move around. (This is also true of other celestial bodies, which explain some “UFO” sightings, but that’s a different story.)
Well, I don’t think it’s anticlimactic.
You really think the Virgin would appear to deliver a message about an attempt on a Pope’s life? Does that measure up to the onset of the Second World War and the fall of the Soviet Union?
John Paul II has a coupla years left in him, anyway. I’ll bet someone comes back and finishes the job.
The prophecy includes “the Bishop in White stepping across a field of corpses,” and “a burst of gunfire.” (I would read that as a little more than Ali Agca and his popgun.) Let’s wait for JPII to take a stroll through a mortuary, and see what happens.
Well, obviously I’m missing something here. I read the article and it says that we will basically just have to take the Pope’s word for it that that’s what the Third Message said. They’re not going to release the exact text or anything? They sure do seem to require an awful lot of faith from people.
I think Fox should turn it into a game show: “I’ve Got a Secret of Fatima!”
“Dorothy Kilgallen, would you like to start?”
“Thank you, Bennett–Holy Mother . . . Would your secret have anything to do with a service you provide?”

LOL. Well, chuckles quietly (I’m at work)

I thought the third secret of Fatima was, “I hate blue!”
Peace.
All the people who I have heard discussing it without personal agendas have basically been saying that that was the whole point. With all the weird Millennium nonsense and all the truly weird speculation that the last message predicted the end of the world, JP II wanted to quell all the silliness, so he picked the anniversary date in 2000 to reveal it.
No big deal.
Notthemama, they are supposed to be releasing the full text “soon” - whatever that means.
Legend has it that as each new pope read the message they cried. A few years ago it was rumored that the reason they cried was because the third message was actually the bill for the last supper.
