The threads that are always there, but you never look in

A rather enjoyable webcomic which riffs on D & D tropes. Even tho I haven’t played any RPGs in years, I still find it enjoyable & often hilarious (tho it’s now on strip 717-will probably take you an entire weekend to read them all).

I’ve apparently trained my brain to not even register threads that are over two pages long any more, unless I know I’ve posted in them, in which case I’ll continue to check back and see if anyone responded to what I said, until it’s gone on so long that it becomes slightly sad that I’m still sticking my head in, waiting for someone to acknowledge my pithy little comment from three weeks ago.

Now if that had been MMP: My Kitteh just loved Return of the King but now it died (TMI, long) you might have been getting somewhere.

I never look in threads that ask completely hypothetical questions, like “What would you do if <something totally unlikely> would happen?” Or “What would happen if <something utterly preposterous> would happen?”

Hypothetically speaking, anything is possible. And then, hypotheticaly speaking, anything could result. And after that, hypothetically speaking, I might do anything myself.

I find the concept both boring and worthless.

But I don’t like thread-shitting, so I say nothing.

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

I just spent most of my lunch hour reading that strip, and forgot to eat.
I can’t wait to share this with my friends.

Thanks.

Hooked another one!

I used to love Mini Rant and Commercials you hate threads but now they just follow the same refrains:

Mini Rants turn into complaints about driving, idiot co-workers or people standing in the aisle in supermarkets.

Commercials you hate turns into descriptions of local annoying radio commercials and people who must mention Head On. Then of course, all the people who show up to say how much they loooove the commercials that were just mentioned as most hated.

I also stay away from the Ask the… threads, mainly because I don’t have the time to read all the questions then come back later for the responses.

::Fingers in ears:: La, la, la, la . . . . . .

I’ve learned to stay away from Israel-themed threads, because they invariably get taken over by Islamic terrorist sympathizers.

Add ** With pics!** and you’re golden.

I avoid the ones posted in the OP; Sequential Threads, because I’ve never seen the humor in them (it can’t be called humor, at any rate, more like a mild sense of vague fleeting amusement). I tend not to go into pet threads. Yes, I like animals, I just don’t go all ga-ga over them. Sorry. That’s why I don’t go into those threads. Please go as ga-ga as you like.

I avoid most music threads (my music tastes don’t include rap or hiphop so there goes contemporary music), and the Hot or Not ones, too (mostly because I’ve never heard of the latest “Hottie”).

I do like to read some Pit threads, but most of them just turn into The Usual Suspects trading jibes and tired old memes, normally by page 3.

Time was I would post in the sex threads, but seriously–why? Not because of anything in my personal life, but more under the heading, “is this necessary?” Usually the answer is no.

“Pigeon Eggs” is one of the most informative, engaging threads I have ever read.

What I won’t read are the breathless 99% of threads on “reality” TV shows. WhoTF cares about this shit?

I was going to start a thread a few days ago coming at this from the opposite direction. I always just choose New Posts to decide what to read and it occurred to me that I only look at a small percentage of the threads that come up. I was going to ask people to calculate the percentage that they had actually bothered opening but figured Dopers would be too lazy.

This one.

Any of those sequential title threads that were hugely popular a while ago. I just don’t find them interesting.

Sequential threads
MMP
TV show threads
Politics - I try to keep up to date on politics, but talking about it online or IRL bores me to tears.
I’ve started avoiding relationship advice threads. They all go the same way: half of the people respond with “dump him/her!” and easily 90% of any other advice will be shot down immediately by the OP.
Games. If I go to the game room, it’s entirely by accident.

Confessing a little ignorance here: what exactly are “MMP” threads? I haven’t looked at enough to figure out what they are about.

My long-lost sibling! I was about to post exactly that.

Or “Mafia”, unless it appears to be about organized crime or something.

MMP stands for Monday Morning Post. It’s a catch all thread for those bits of the mundane and pointless that qualify so well, they don’t need an individual thread.

In actuality, it’s a core group of people who share mundane bits of their own lives. It’s nice. They’re nice. You can mini-rant about your crazy MIL in an MMP or crow about how your souffle turned out and everything in between. The people in it change slightly week to week and everyone and anyone is welcome in it.
