The Tick 12/5/01

Anybody else catch this one? I swear, the show’s too damn quirky to last (but not quirky in a bad way). My favorite lines were:

You’re on a first name basis with lucidity. I have to call him Mr. Lucidity.

And The Tick never told my parents that I was dead and carried me across state lines.

No one wears the pants in this little family, and we’re better for it.

I think that this is so far the most delightful show since the Simpsons. Can it last? Well, they’re going to un out of real ideas eventually an then it’s going to become like any other sitcom, only with goofy outfits. Hopefully the characters will be firmly established enough that we will still want to watch.

I rolled my eyes at the second episode. I thought “Have they run out of ideas so quickly that they have to rehash this tired plot?”

Tuckerfan wrote, in his signature:

True, but I take comfort in the fact that the people who do make history are usually assholes.

… at which point, the Tick could always fight the Idea Men.

When Liberty was crawling forward to get the dog I knew Ban Manuel was going check her out, and lo and behold he did.

I hope their heroes and villans get more outrageous though. While Friendly Fire what ever his bosses name was were nice puns they just don’t have the laugh out loud power as say Chairface or the Human Tongue.

Ooh, I also loved the way the pet store clerk nailed Liberty the second she came in. chuckles

I was kinda geeked they included the lost prince of Atlantis–very nice cameo for those who followed the comics.

“Why do you always have to hid behind sex?”
“Well, it’s just so big!”

God, I love Bat Manuel. He is a more than acceptible substitute for die Fledermaus.

I was pleased to see the whole side-kick dynamic explored in this episode. It was kind of weird that Arthur wasn’t really referred to as a side-kick up until this point. “Hey guys, this is Arthur. He 'kicks for the Tick.”

Where are the signature bad guys? In this episode, we got what, a common theif and a buncha melodrama? The Tick VS the Dysfunctional Relationship? I’m still holding out for the Evil Mad Bomber What Bombs at Midnight. “And I says to her, I says, tell me I’m wrong, baby! And she says, I can’t, baby! I can’t!”

Oh, I would love to see the Midnight Bomber on the live-action show, but it is not to be. Sob! I was hoping for the Sidekicks Lounge in this episode, too.

I’m really digging the show so far. Let’s hope Fox doesn’t bury it.

The Terror will be making an appearance. That should be delightful.

Crap! I missed it! It was on on Tuesday? I thought it was Thursday–did they move it?

The Tick is on again tonight at 8:30 Eastern and Pacific, 7:30 Central. At 8:00/7:00 is A Charlie Brown Christmas, but this year, it has a half-hour behind-the-scenes documentary following it. However, Charlie Brown will be repeated on Sunday, the 16th, so you can see both if you like. (But if you watch CB on the 16th, you’d have to miss The Simpsons and Malcolm in the Middle.)

Decisions, decisions…

(All this info comes from Yahoo’s TV listings.)

Them’s fightin’ words, Podkayne.
I mean, how can Batmanuel compare to die Fledermaus? Will Batmanuel ever say, “Hey, baby, got anything in that poodle gun for me?” Or how about “I love a woman who wears stainless steel.” Finally, I submit this Fledermaus quote, “If he tries to kick you in the stomach, it’s probably not the real Santa!” Set, match, and point.
I thought last night’s show was the best yet. Nothing jarringly out of character like the Tick saying “bitch”. Not as much blatant sexuality, either. However, Blazing Flame and Friendly Fire were something of a letdown. The cameos of bizarre heroes and villians was always my favorite part of the cartoon (Civic Minded Five, King Aggripa (Roman God of the Aqueduct), the Breadmaster–with sidekick–wait for it–Buttery Pat!).

I haven’t yet seen an episode of the live action Tick. I loved the cartoon and was sad when they canceled it. I hate that they air it against Thursday’s NBC lineup as I (along with many other people) watch that. So even some people that may be interested in The Tick may miss it. I wish they had aired it in it’s original slated time slot (after the Simpson’s on Sunday nights). Ah well! I will make sure to see it tonight.

There are two – count 'em, two – episodes of The Tick on this week. The next one is tonight.

Yeah, god forbid you should miss an episode of that Schwartz show which you know will be repeated in favor of The Tick which you know won’t be.

Okay, so, tonight’s episode was now the third episode in a row without a single supervillain in it anywhere. I wanna see the Tick kick butt!
