His costume is reticulated, to resemble an arachnid’s exoskeleton or something.
I actually just watched it again with my daughter, and I’m convinced that the person who starts screaming in pain in the background while Arthur and Dot are talking on the phone was Patrick Warburton.
It’s the way the mask has those rounded loops underneath the eyes: makes 'em look baggy. And he’s clearly way too skinny for the role. Hopefully, they’ll spend the next year bulking him up.
But other than the costume and the actor’s build, this was about as perfect a realization of the concept as I could hope for. Serafinowicz was delightful, and Arthur’s tragic backstory was hilariously over the top. And I don’t know where people are getting “smart Tick” from. That guy was thicker than luke-warm tar.
Hope it gets picked up. Hell, I liked enough to take Amazon’s survey.
He seemed to have a pretty good appreciation for what Arthur needed and exactly how to emotionally manipulate Arthur into joining him. Outside of that last scene, he seemed dumb. But in that one instance, he seemed closer to “playing the fool”.
It was probably just a matter of plot necessity - they wanted to get Arthur prepped to start adventuring before the 2nd episode even starts and needed someone to bring him in within the time allotment of a single episode, without having to expand the cast any further. But, it did imply a certain craftiness and cunning to The Tick that shouldn’t be there.
I spent the first half unsure, but then watching the Tick try to find Arthur’s secret lair hooked me. Just that last bit with the lamp … It’s enough to make me hope they pick it up.
So - I’ve watched it multiple times now - alot to like in this as a pilot - sets up alot and you instantly get a feel for the kind of show its going to be.
Also binge watched the 2001 series - lots of laughs still today, and wow if it wasn’t heavy on the some current themes - its great stuff still today.
Finally figured out what was bugging me about the new TIck’s voice - it has such a strong bit of ‘Adam West’ to it - but It will work out fine.
Glad to hear this! Every Tick adaptation, including this one, has managed to be both true to the spirit of the comic, and somewhat unique in tone and style.
Home sick and watched the six episodes. I enjoyed the new take on the Tick. The show went dark, darker than I expected. Took me longer than expected to figure out why lint was sticking to “Pavlova” (hee-hee), then as soon as I saw the vacuum cleaner…woot! Don’t say another word Derek! Then later, “…is that IT Derek?”
Also I liked Arthur’s description of Overkill’s attack, “…it was like he was putting his knife away and wasn’t happy with where he put it so he took it out and put it away again, and again, and again…”
I’m excited for six new episodes in February 2018! SPOON!
I had totally forgot that this was coming back with six more in February!
I’ve just gotten through the first two of the newer dump. Why didn’t any of you remind me! Why have they not advertised it? (They did with the initial release.) Or did I just miss it?
