It was consistently funny. Kind of all over the place in its attempt for weirdness, but I enjoyed it.
Yeah, I started out a bit lukewarm but then got into it. Each episode had at least a couple laugh out loud moments and was consistently amusing. It helped that I got into the story and characters (and that was helped by making Arthur the focus rather than The Tick). I’d happily watch more.
Danger Boat’s crush on Arthur was my favorite comedy bit. Especially the shower scene.
Totally called Overkill’s origins. I’m inordinately proud of myself for that.
I just watched the first three episodes, based on the recommendations here.
I’m really enjoying it so far! It’s just what I need at the moment. Light, funny, undemanding, good characters, good acting, good story.
Dot with Overkill was great.
Looking forward to more of Walter’s story.
New season of 10 episodes just dropped!
Already binged all ten episodes.
I enjoyed S2 way more than I did S1.
Halfway through Season 2, and it’s really, really good. Love the pop (& not so pop) culture references they keep dropping too. I’m sure I must be missing half of them.
Bronze Star, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!
Finished up season 2. I especially enjoyed the reimaging of the Supes and Lois musical flying scene from Superman the movie.
Finished it this weekend – I thought it was a big step up from season 1 (which was already good, IMO). I loved the Supernumerary Sage, and the Lobstercules story was wacky in the best possible way. The only slight negative was perhaps the Superian storyline, which didn’t really seem to go anywhere aside from possibly setting up next season’s storyline.
Did anyone figure out what Bronze Star’s superpower is?
Lobstercules was voiced by Liz Vassey, who played Captain Liberty in the Patrick Warburton series. Nice.
And I admit, I did mentally pronounce it “Lobster - quools” before Arthur pointed out it rhymes with Hercules.
And apparently Scott Speiser, who plays Overkill, was/is a Blue Man from the Blue Man Group. Which is hilarious.
Huh. All season I was thinking that he was Wolf from Future Man. Serious resemblance.
I laughed hard enough at that, that I had trouble hearing the dialogue - as soon as the shot of Superian’s face started with the music underneath it, I knew what we were in for, and it was sheer beauty.
I’ve watched 6 so far. Didn’t want to blaze through all ten in one sitting.
I took it slow and just finished S2 last night.
WOW!
Better by far than S1; this show is amazing. Tyrannosaurus Rathbone is my new favorite leader of a pack of superheros, mostly due to his extreme bowleggedness and the fact that he seems to have some Elder Gods using his body as a portal or container or something.
The Lobstercules storyline was awesome, but I wish it had been separate from the Duke storyline.
The Superian storyline is awesome. I loved how it helped maintain continuity from S1 and how it subtly aided in the world-building the series is doing.
Miss Lint was great. Edgelord was great but could have been quirky/weirder.
Dot totally fucking rocks. I am now practicing that dance move that she and Overkill do for my own little celebratory moments (and in case I ever meet her).
Sadly, I liked the first Tick costume better than the 2nd. I did like the whole molting-a-new-costume thing tho, as it lets them change his look like they change Doctor Who.
I’d give S1 a 7 but S2 knocked it out of the park with a 9.
On the one hand, it is kind of predictable TV cheapening to replace mousy, shrill Dot from the other versions with a really, really hot one. On the other hand, they replaced mousy, shrill Dot from the other versions with a really, really hot one. So I’m torn.
Interesting, by the standards of Hollywood or Superhero movies and shows I think Dot (Valorie Curry) is not really a really hot one. They don’t have her sexed up or in stripperific clothing, they seem to do the unheard thing of treating her as a person. Let her wear normal clothes and everything.
I mean compare her to Wonder Woman, The Black Widow or any of the Cat Women?
[nitpick]Technically, the third. His costume in the pilot was different from his costume in season 1.
And, like Overkill’s origins, I also called “he molts” as an explanation for the costume change after the pilot. ![]()
[/nitpick]
I watched a few episodes of this, liked it pretty well, then forgot all about it until I happened to notice this thread. Happens more and more in this “Peak TV” era: the competition is so tough, a show has to be transcendant to really grab me and keep me on the edge of my seat waiting for each episode.
I desperately want a season 3. Though I totally called Superian’s secret backstory.
I love that this season started including some of the weird ‘scat’ music cues that reminded me of the animated series. (Drama!)
