I don’t think it has anything to do with pay-to-post, unless most of the conservative posters showing up now are returnees from the former pay-to-post days, which I take to be unlikely since elucidator seems to feel they’re new.
I think it’s because because of the fact that CL/SDMB is beginning to open the board up to the country at large, via Google and other means.
And if the population at large is beginning to find out about us, it only stands to reason that a much larger percentage of new posters will be conservatives.
Hey! Big fan in the seventies when I wore them for HS and college B-ball – I even went as far out as to use their colored suede shoes wich would turn my (knee high) socks the same shade. I’m so vain, I probably think this thread is about me.
I’m atheist, fiscally conservative, and socially liberal, and I’m ready to take all comers in GD (not like that, you pervs).
I’ve been reading these boards for a while (and I mean a while, probably since 2000 or so), so I’m sure I’ll be accused of sock puppetry one day when I display my knowledge of board members etc.
I’m not sure why I decided to start posting. Maybe I felt this board was getting even more left than it historically has been. Maybe I’m a masochist. Maybe I needed a new hobby. Not having to pay made it easier just to register and start firing off vitriol without worrying about finding my wallet or having to tell my wife why I was interested in straightening dope on the intarwebs.
In any event, I think I’m kind of a shitty poster so far. I’m prone to drive-bys and one-line snarks. The reason may be that all day long I think about, research, and write out cogent arguments on a wide variety of subjects (I’m a lawyer), so at night I don’t have the energy to put my thoughts down coherently. Also, a lot of times I feel that others’ posts are difficult to respond to because they aren’t even wrong, just :dubious:, and it would take years to get the person up to speed to understand life beyond Obama’s nutsack on their chin.
But my promise to you, dear reader, is to at least try to add some value by issue spotting and elucidating from the atheist fiscally conservative socially liberal angle. (That last sentence would probably be the best one to quote in your reply to “save it, dude, and leave us alone.”)
As a straight white male who makes over $250K per year (by myself! the wife makes money too!) who plans to make over $600K per year within the next 8 years, I’m really accustomed to being the enemy. (This would probably be the second best sentence to quote.) So, I’m here, I’m queer, so start getting used to it.

I believe it was either jdavis or Ed Zotti who, ahem, elucidated it (It’s a two-fer!:D), but unfortunately I can’t be arsed to fight your ignorance on it at the moment. Perhaps you’ll use our shiny new and very speedy (no, really!) seach function to find it for yourself.
Shirley your powers of discernment are better than this. The outside world isn’t ‘largely’ in agreement with me, only 50% or so. Thus, one may deduce that if the board is drawing posters from the general population, 50% of them will be conservative. This means the current balance of at least 98% to 2% ratio in favor of you guys may well be in jeopardy.
