Seems to me that Tebow is a lot like Vince Young–questionable mechanics with some scrambling ability, considered by “the old guard” to be a first-round prospect mainly because of his team’s success in college. And I think his playing career arc for the next few years might emulate VY’s early career: a few flashes of greatness, mainly in scrambling out of the pocket on broken plays, but not a great deal of passing success. But then Young did improve his mechanics and is a better passer now; the verdict will be out on Tebow’s work.
But that raises a good question (and one which, I’ll admit, was raised in today’s Peter King mailbag): why are so many people furious that Tebow went in the first round, but few eyebrows were raised when VY went #3 in the draft? At least you know Tebow isn’t going to be a headcase, and there were questions about VY’s mental toughness even when he was at Texas.
I don’t think Tebow is going to revolutionize the game…but then supposedly-smart analysts said things about Young like
So what gives?
