There have been a few posts already in the Transformers thread about the weird trailer that ran before the movie- the trailer that didn’t give a title for the film it was advertising.
I don’t have much info on it (I did basically the same research that Tangent did), but I would be interested if any other Dopers have info to share. So I thought a new Thread might be called for.
The scary sounds in the distance definitely sounded like Godzilla. I wondered that myself at first.
I’m pretty psyched for this (I guess as psyched as someone can be for an unnamed movie about an unknown subject). I love disaster movies, and that trailer conveyed a you-are-there, this-is-really-happening quality that was just incredible. I’m not sure how I feel about watching an entire film through a shaky camcorder lens though, so I kind of hope the sequence shown wasn’t characteristic of how the whole film was/will be shot.
It looked pretty interesting to me. I could actually dig the “shaky camcorder” idea, but it has to be pulled off just right. Otherwise I’ll just feel sick throughout the entire thing, and that’s no fun at all.
My friend thinks that this will be a Lost tie-in.
His reasons: It’ll be released on 1-(18)-08. 108. Flight 108.
From the most recent epi of Lost,
The airport where jack and kate meet, according to the area code Jack dials to call Kate, is one that used to be called cloverfield. No i’ve no proof, thats just what he told me.
That sounded way more like the smoke monster than gojira

The trailer annoyed the hell out of me. I wonder when they stopped teaching the “how to hold a camera still” and “how to focus properly” classes in film school.
I don’t know how much on the “up-and-up” this trailer is, but it’s online here. It may be taken down soon if it’s not authorized. (if this is not allowed, please edit this mods)
People on the Interwebs say that J.J. Abrahms is big on little clues. So far people are deducing that you can see a little “alien-like face” in the girl’s hair in the center top portion of the splash screen of the “official” website.
I’m about to watch the trailer and see if I can disect it for a clue or two.
One notion is that it’s a Godzilla or giant monster movie. During the party scene a Wolfmother song is being played called “Joker & the Thief” the artwork has a guy being cornered by wolves. Is this a clue??? Who knows. But the rumor mill is cranking!
Not having an assignment at work until next week leaves me with alot of free time! I’ll keep looking!
According to this, it’s called “Cloverfield,” but no one knows if that’s the real title, or merely the “cover” title. I’ll note that Matt Stone and Trey Parker have said that they’re next movie is going to be a “giant rubber monster” movie, so this could be it, or it could be *How to Survive a Robot Uprising*, if “Cloverfield” isn’t the real title.
Ummm… give us a little credit here. It’s pretty obvious to all of us that it’s an attempt to generate buzz for a movie. I mean, that’s kinda the point of all movie trailers, ya know? And trailers that are cryptic, like this one, are not exactly a new device, but this one seems to have been particularly successful considering that a number of other message boards I visit have similar threads going on.
Anyways, what we’re all discussing here is what exactly this movie will be about. Do you have any helpful ideas or knowledge concerning that?
As for whether it will be “crappy,” well, I’ll actually wait until I learn more about it before I judge it.
