We learned earlier this year (and it was probably even discussed earlier in this thread), back in January 2020, that he doesn’t know much about Pearl Harbor.
In one account, the president told senior advisers that he didn’t understand why the U.S. government placed such value on finding soldiers missing in action because they had performed poorly and gotten caught and deserved what they got, according to a person familiar with the discussion.
Trump believed people who served in the Vietnam War must be “losers” because they hadn’t gotten out of it, according to a person familiar with the comments…
It is my understanding that if you are in line to vote, even if the time for polls to close passes, you are still able to cast your vote. Is my understanding of that correct?
One anecdote that supports this theory … I have a friend who voted for Obama twice. She’s since had a number of health issues and takes a ton of prescription opioids, and has become an obnoxious Trump supporter. Correlation doesn’t equal causation, of course, but …
Long lines discourage voters. Not everybody can afford to take the whole day off, not everyone has the patience to wait hours in line.
This will be November, as well, so weather may not be conducive to people standing out in it for hours while they wait to vote.
And this is assuming that you have the same understanding as law enforcement or federal agents assigned to protect the polls, who may decide to declare a curfew or unlawful assembly.
For instance, lets say that there is a fence to help to contain the line, and someone happens to lean on the fence and move it a couple of inches.
Long lines are disenfranchisement, Republicans have known this for a long time, which is why they make it harder for minority areas to vote. Longer lines is further disenfranchisement.
I checked the news this morning, found that Atlantic article, and I was sickened. I can’t really put it any better than jsc1953 did.
I’ll just say again what’s already been said countless times…there is something really wrong that he has 35-40% of the population who still support him no matter what. I just don’t get it.
Years ago, I was one of the adult chaperones for a group of young teens from St. John’s Episcopal Church (yep, the one where the toilet smear held the Bible upside down with his p~ grabbing hand) on a trip to King’s Dominion, the amusement park. The younger priest from the church and I were standing in line with a few of the teens so we could ride the roller coaster. We got up to the sign that said “From here, the wait is 2 hours”. The priest asked me, “Monty, do you know what this sign means?” My response was, “Yes, Father. It means we have a two hour wait in this line”. The priest then told me, “Nope. It means we’re stupid”.
That’s why the toilet smear and his supporters and enablers in government are doing this crap. They think only stupid people would stay in those long lines. Well, folks, there will be plenty of people staying in the voting lines, lines they actually had to make some kind of sacrifice just to get to, for this incredibly important election this year. And those people are not stupid; they’re Democrats, not Republicans.
November is, can be seriously cold where I live. But we are a skiing community, so most are prepared to be out in any weather. But, I did hear talk of having buses parked at polling places so people could sit down and stay out of the weather (take a number??). Anyway, with COVID, I’m thinking that’s not that good of an idea. I think perhaps this was a pre-COVID idea.
The good news is that we are a vote by mail state. Works great. But who knows how many more wrenches Trump will throw at that. Trump and his crooks will do anything to stay in power and out of prison.
Hard to believe that this is what the US has become. Putin is laughing every day.
