The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making Part Deux (Part 1)

She’s an admitted liar, and this is just another example.

Sure, on talk shows.

But answering a congressional subpoena?

I don’t know. This one I can believe.

Call up their loved ones to tell them what suckers the soldiers were to go to battle, and what losers they were to get killed.

I’m assuming the White House has a curator who keeps track of the property in the White House. But if something disappears, what’s he going to do other than report that it’s missing? I doubt people are searching the Trump family’s luggage when they travel between the White House and their private residences. So it would be easy for them to pack valuable art objects and walk off with them.

I wonder how much sharpie art has replaced the originals at this point.

“No, Dad, you can’t draw on it. We need to resell this stuff.”

I’m imaging the conversations at the White House.

“Mr President, it may have been a bad idea to discuss all of these thing with Bob Woodward. As I’m sure you know, he was involved in the Watergate reporting.”
“The what reporting?”
“Ummm…I guess the name momentarily slipped your mind, Mr President, with all of the important current issues you have to deal with. Watergate was the scandal that brought down Richard Nixon.”
“Who’s that?”
“Fuck this. I quit.”

Gotta rag on Bob Woodward a bit. He knew the administration was going to downplay the threat from covid back in March but he wanted to wait until his book came out to let us know. Gee thanks, Bob. Fuck the 190,000 people who died while you sat on this knowledge.

“So this president does what leaders do — good leaders — it’s stay calm and resolute at a time when you face an insurmountable challenge.”

Hey, Mc-Inane-y, good leaders actually, y’know, lead!

This bit from the Washington Post writeup about Woodward’s book is also nice:

Woodward writes that anonymous people later confirmed that the U.S. military had a secret new weapons system, but they would not provide details, and that the sources were surprised Trump had disclosed it.

Your post makes no sense to me.

He phoned the widow of a serviceman killed in Nigeria and expressed condolences (sort of) and then said, “Well, he knew what he was signed up for.”

MIAMI (AP) — President Donald Trump told the widow of a soldier killed in an ambush in Niger that her husband “knew what he signed up for,” according to a Florida congresswoman who says she heard part of the conversation on speakerphone.

All Bob did was confirm what we already knew.

Spilling the beans at that time would have been feckless. Hell, it’s probably feckless right now.

Fucking Repubs like Lindsay Graham and Thom Tillis defending trump-- “he was downplaying the deadliness of the virus to not cause a panic!!”

That doesn’t explain away his subsequent actions, like refusing to wear a mask and making fun of others wearing a mask, turning mask wearing into a culture war issue; holding non-socially distanced mask-free rallies that spread the virus while calling it a “Democrat hoax”; constantly pushing to reopen the economy early (“Liberate Michigan!”).

It’s not like he initially downplayed the virus, but then encouraged safe measures “just in case”-- he actively encouraged and egged on its spread. If he knew full well how deadly the virus was in February, that makes all his subsequent words and actions all the more criminal and evil.

I’m missing something. You’re saying that it would have mattered when Bob W revealed that he knew this about trump? How, exactly?

Pardon me?

How would things have played out differently if Woodward had revealed anything back then?

I think if Bob W had come out in May saying “Hey people, DJT said in March this was a deadly virus that spreads easily, don’t buy his lame attempts to minimize it” then that might have forced DJT’s hand a bit. As it was, Bob W let Don continue downplaying it unchallenged.

It is to laugh that it would have changed Trump’s behavior one tiny bit, or affected his base.

In February, every scientist, public health expert, and the members of the public who listen to them and pay attention knew that we were up against something serious. The fact that Trump downplayed it could have meant that he was ill-informed, whistling past the graveyard, purposely obtuse, and/or a lying evil bastard. The ones who were impacted by his actions are his minions – their lives were put needlessly at risk. And we now know that it was “lying evil bastard” – if that had been known six months ago, some MAGAts might’ve started wearing masks.

Again, we have known that for five years. It is to laugh.
