If you look at those videos, and see people impeding voting or progress or access in any way whatsoever, then I guess this conversation is probably fruitless, because we don’t live in the same perceptual universe.
Yeah, I gotta balls and strikes here, and I just didn’t see anything that was over-the-top. Again, maybe the video didn’t show it, or maybe it did briefly, and I missed it. But there are activists at precincts. Hell, there are candidates who shake hands with voters entering polling stations barely a centimeter beyond where they’re told not to. It’s activism. Sometimes activism is obnoxious. I definitely think voter intimidation is in the GOP playbook, but I don’t think we should turn stories of activism - even obnoxious activism - into ZOMG! Intimidation!!!
Besides, I think Trump supporters seriously get off on that idea that they have liberals scared. I’m not about to give these fuckers the satisfaction of believing that their activism or worse is going to keep progressives from actually casting a vote; I’d rather show them the exact opposite: keep fuckin’ with me, and us, and we’ll bring two or three of our friends to vote with us.
Maybe its just my relentless optimism, but I see a fly in the ointment. Trump wants to nominate a woman with Cuban ties to deliver the Cuban-American vote in crucial Florida. He also wants to nominate a woman who will assure “Pro-life” fanatics that overturning Roe/Wade is number one on his list.
Both groups firmly believe that their priorities should take precedence. “Pro-life” are national, pro-Cuban, almost entirely Floridian. So, what I’m expecting is the pro-Cuban candidate to loudly proclaim her pro-life bony fidos, thus assuring Il Douche that he can have it both ways.
However, if both candidates have more integrity than ambition, this may not work.
To be honest, I have not looked at the videos in sufficient quantity or detail to make that judgement. I merely stated what my benchmarks were for acceptable and unacceptable.
Since I have done that, if you look at those videos you should be able to tell yourself which way I’d decide on them. Which may or may not overlap with how you feel about it.
Far more than a dozen were present; “blocking the entrance” evidently stems from their dawdling in line and only moving when forced by an election official.
Do not waste your time accusing Trump and the Republicans of hypocrisy, because to them hypocrisy is just an effective tool used to keep and increase power. They are not ashamed of hypocrisy.
I saw the video that Tilghman posted to twitter, but to be honest, it just mostly shows Trump supporters being a little loud and supporting their candidate. His video just focuses on the supporters - I didn’t see where they were noticeably interfering with voters. This could have happened, but it’s certainly not evident from his video.
An NBC interview with Olivia Troye, who played a key role in the Trump administration’s coronavirus response as an aide to Vice President Mike Pence, is going to be shown tonight. I caught a snippet of it on the “Today” show this morning, in which she said trump joked in a meeting about how maybe the Coronavirus is a good thing because now he doesn’t have to shake hands with all those “disgusting” people.
If your are in a queue, you are in the extended process of entering the building. The queue itself is the entrance to the building, because that is the only way to get in. The demonstrators need to stay 100’ away from the queue itself.
Barrett says the purpose of being a lawyer is to create the Kingdom of God. If she sees voting to prevent abortion as part of that goal, she’ll say or do anything to accomplish that.
