Well, that was one of the emphasizes (how bad he would be) of the 2016 campaign, and we see how well that worked out.
Right, but in 2016 there was no actual evidence of his presidential incompetence. Now there’s an undeniable mountain of it.
The Lincoln Project seems to alternate between ads designed to sway voters, and ones like these that seem to have one purpose-- get under trump’s skin, and make him angry, anxious and paranoid. I don’t think this ad is for mass consumption. Like I said, it clearly seems aimed at an audience of one.
Here’s an example of a Lincoln Project ad, “Betrayed”, that’s more designed to sway voters:
I think they overanalyzed Trump’s thinking in that article. He probably just searched Jesus statues for his tweet and took the most impressive looking one, not considering its location.
The Lincoln Project’s Youtube Channel lists over 60 videos. It seems like they are taking the tidal wave approach, rather than the surgical scalpel approach.
I approve. When watching the videos I’ll often think of ways they could be improved, but ultimately It’s better to pump them out with a 48-hour turnaround, and a modest budget, rather than striving for perfection.
Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Run “Betrayed” on Fox News every damn night until the MAGAts collapse from cognitive dissonance.
What worries me is that the worst of the effects may not happen until we’re in year one or two of Biden’s term (assuming there is one).
The Great Depression was actually a slow-motion disaster that took several years of speculation to create the initial shock and then another year or two of inaction and bad policy to drive us deep into negative territory.
Most credible economists I’ve read suggest we won’t have a real recovery until the end of next year, and that’s assuming that the pandemic situation doesn’t deteriorate. I think it probably will deteriorate, just not all at once. The pattern that we seem to be setting is one in which we go through perpetual waves of openings and closures and reopening. We can’t get out of our own way.
So yeah, I’m worried that it’ll be year one or two of president Biden (or Harris?) and we’ll still be fumbling around with individual state governors trying to give the finger to democrat presidents. What would be even worse is for a democratic president not to have enough power in the senate to impose legislative will (a la Obama).
Not a Trump clusterfuck, but Trump-adjacent: Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro just tested positive for COVID-19. He’s been an even bigger asshole about the pandemic than his buddy Trump.
Karma’s a bitch.
I’m smiling now, and so is God.
Just fuck that guy.
It would be a shame if Trump caught the hoax.
I’m not so sure, with our luck this year he will probably recover fairly quickly and start saying “see? I was right, this is just a “gripezinha” (a little flu)”
Or worse he will die, and his sucessor will be another fascist but this time not so idiotic.
First things first. The clusterfuck of trumpery needs to end. That’s job one.
After that, yes, there will be aftereffects from the trump admin’s fuckups for years to come. But Biden knows his way around the Senate so he should be able to “impose legislative will” to at least some extent. If we’re really lucky, the Repub majority in the Senate will be gone after the election. Even if it’s not, the Repub brand is awfully damaged. Hell, Biden can blame trump and the Repubs for all manner of problems that happen in a first Biden admin, and unlike trump yelling “Obama’s fault” he’ll probably be right.
He will recover and then point out that, as he already said, the virus is no big deal. You get over it.
The Great Depression also happened seven months into Hoover’s term, three years before the next election. He had plenty of time to unfuck the country but failed to do anything in that direction. This time, the crash is right ahead of the election: if it is a fair-ish vote, the outcome will be based on the voters’ optimism/pessimism outlook. (It is not “the economy, stupid” – the economy can suck, but if people see it apparently improving, they will support the in-side.)
I tend to agree. As its written, it seems to confirm the idea that its the deep state that is bringing Trump down and if not for them his presidency would have achieved the greatness
The key final phrase “it’s everyone” could turn this around to point out that rather than a secret cabal that hates the president, its the American people, but it happens so close to the end that its easy to miss, or again could be heard as everyone in the deep state. All it needs to be made perfect is a 3-4 second rapidfire montage of everyday Americans after they say “its everyone” and it would be perfect.
From the book by Mary Trump:
As a high school student in Queens, Ms. Trump writes, Donald Trump paid someone to take a precollegiate test, the SAT, on his behalf. The high score the proxy earned for him, Ms. Trump adds, helped the young Mr. Trump to later gain admittance as an undergraduate to the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious Wharton business school.”
Ms. Trump, a clinical psychologist, asserts that her uncle has all nine clinical criteria for being a narcissist. And yet, she notes, even that label does not capture the full array of the president’s psychological troubles.
“The fact is,” she writes, “Donald’s pathologies are so complex and his behaviors so often inexplicable that coming up with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis would require a full battery of psychological and neurophysical tests that he’ll never sit for.”
Book after book has been written about Trump and his myriad psychological, moral and intellectual shortcomings. Do we really need another book to confirm for us what we already know? No. We don’t.
What we need is a book with step by step instruction on how to be rid of the unbearable fucking asshole.
Not just pointless, but actually shooting ourselves in the foot.
From an economic standpoint, foreign students are literally a cash cow for the American economy. They’re generally not allowed to work (except in a limited way, on campus), so just about every dollar they spend is money brought into the United States from overseas. Not only do they pay (often inflated) tuition at colleges and universities, but they contribute greatly to their local economies when they pay rent, buy groceries, and otherwise spend a whole bunch of money.
But sure, lets kick them out in the middle of a national economic crisis. That totally makes sense.

I disagree; the ad isn’t saying that there’s a faceless/nameless conspiracy against Trump. It’s saying that he’s being stabbed in the back by the people he’s hired – his cabinet and advisors. Are Jared & Ivanka next? Sure, it’s paranoia-inducing…but it’s also true.

That he paid someone to take the SAT for him is new, juicy, completely believable, and something that the average consumer/voter can wrap his head around. This alone makes the book worthwhile.
